    The gold standard when it comes to stands, in my opinion, is K&M.
    Guitarstands, mic stands etc

    I quite like the robot-sentry styling. But it's a little under-engineered IMO. Ideally, it should contain a gyroscopic based AI system so that if knocked over, an airbag system is deployed once a critical angle occurs. It would then text an image of the culprit to house security.

    Looks very cool but I like the cheap little triangle ones that fold up in one movement. Supports guitar from body, no pressure on neck, basically no setup and folds up small (flat) for travel.

    Sorry to be Debbie Downer. I've had two Hercules neck clamps fail on me. I now use a simple folding stand that holds three leaning guitars. It's 1/2 the cost of the Hercules, light, and no way to fail.

    • @shanetx81
      @shanetx81 Před měsícem +1

      How did they fail?? It seems like such a fool proof design.

      @@shanetx81 the clasp mechanism that holds the neck broke.

      It has happened to me. I do keep one of their smaller foldable stands in the gig bag though as it’s small and light and survives.

      @@lanceholland I see! Thank you. I’ve got like nine of their wall hangers and they’ve been solid. You have me scared now. I figured they were safer than others around my cats.
      I’ve caught one hanging from a strap on my hollowbody once.

    • @sgierling
      @sgierling Před měsícem +1

      Failed in such a way that it would no longer hold a guitar? I had one that I used a lot one side of the tabs that flip up stopped working but it still clamped down and holds the guitar. I have 3 singles, a double, a seven guitar rack and ten wall hangers. This is the only issue I've had with any of them.

    Over the years of gigging, I’ve seen so many guitar’s knocked off stands, some even resulting in a broken neck or headstock. It’s the guitar stand that’s the problem. Roadies, band members and anyone else can see the guitar, but not the splayed out black legs and they trip over the legs. Also I’ve seen musicians put the guitar in the stand but leave the guitar cord in the guitar, giving another opportunity for a trip hazard. My fifty year old Gibson SG, is too valuable to me to allow any chance of it getting knocked over. So it stays in it’s hard case until a minute before the first set, to check tuning. Then after each set, back in the case. At the end of the gig straight back in the case before I do anything else. Incidentally, I was told by someone years ago, you should never leave your guitar leaning against your speaker. The speaker has very strong magnets, and your pick ups are magnetic too. It could diminish the power of your pick ups. How true that is I don’t know. But I’d never do it anyway. Just subscribed to your channel, love the videos.

    The K&M folding stand is what I use. Light, portable, fairly cheap and very reliable. I also have a guitar stand case that I'll sometimes share with the rest of the band.
    The Hercules you've got does look very nice though and definitely a space conscious solution if you need 2 guitars.

  • @Stringtheorist27
    @Stringtheorist27 Před měsícem +4

    Hercules stands are over-engineered, in my opinion. All the moving parts are potential failure points; the claws can sometimes lock on to your guitar when you try to grab it in a hurry, pulling the stand over and any other instrument hanging off it. I've been using K&M's dual stand for years now, and found them much more reliable.

  • @57ebartley

    I just started using that stand. I was using two separate stands before.been using it for about a month now and I gig about 3 times a week. I do wrap a small bungee around the two holder so they don’t flop around in my vehicle. That got damaged on one of my single Hercules stands before.

    Like I heard myself talking! 😳
    I spend a lot of money on gear and I always want to have a backup for most everything I take with me, but I leave my spare guitar in the case. Most of the time I don’t need it anyway. And my main guitar (often a Gibson ES-347) is leaning against my amp, or whatever I can find. BUT because I switch to different tunings in a number of songs lately, I decided I should take a guitar stand with me. And I do have guitar stands enough. At home. But just those simple stands for 1 guitar each. And one rack for 5 guitars no less, but I don’t want to overdo it. 🥴

    I have 2 A frame stands, one i just got from fender accommodates offset or Odd type bodies/explorer V, The older one is just regular A frame, they are small fold very Flat, easy to transport. Do not Lean any Gibson or tilt back headstocks on Amps. Back in the 70's i put mine back in the case even on a break. It is interesting to see what was used in the Days of the Beatles touring occasionally you will see an A frame. But GOOD to HAVE one.

  • @dangitdan9938
    @dangitdan9938 Před měsícem

    I have one I don't use because of the clamps. It won't hold a tele or Strat properly and they hang by the tuners.
    I have wall hangers for home but use a single stand or a floor rack, stores up to 5 instruments sideways, for jams and such. The floor racks are collapsible and much safer.

  • @deanoguitarguy2171
    @deanoguitarguy2171 Před měsícem

    I found the newer 2 stands tend to topple because the hangers are positioned in the wrong position. The old ones work fine. I do also use a 3 and use the third one as a coat hanger.....

    I never gig without a stand for each guitar. My preference is the Hercules compact folding stand. My brother once made a lightweight contraption that remained fixed to the guitar permanently, and folded out so the guitar would lean without falling. In theory, anyway!

    On the subject of professionalism... I have been playing with the exact same rig for all my function gigs for the past 7 years (Helix + Headrush), they have been great, especially with the help of some of your presets! I was driving home from a gig last night and it occurred to me that if the helix failed, I would be pretty screwed. What do you take to gigs in the way of spares/other options for pedals/amps? I've got my eye on the Quad Cortex but I don't like buying stuff that I don't necessary need, and the Helix could serve me for another 10 years (or another 10 minutes). I did wonder about buying one and keeping it in the box until the Helix died, or perhaps buying the HX stomp as a backup that can stay in the car? I've no idea the lifespan on these sorts of products but I wonder if it is about time I had a plan B... Would love to hear your thoughts.

    No thanks, my Hercules stand of similar construction for a single guitar which was about 15 years old but extremely gently used recently feel apart due to the plastic desintegrating and becoming sticky and such, luckily it feel apart precisely when i grabbed the guitar but it was a pretty catastrophical failure which would have sent it crashing onto the floor since the plastic clamp that regulate the height fell apart when i grabbed the guitar. I only got this stand because i play flying V guitars and the traditional kind of stand where you place the bottom of the guitar (like a strat) on a holder which holds the guitar doesnt work with these guitars. I have one of these traditional stands (cheap one as well) that were made in the 80´s which is still just fine and has seen more use BTW. Does anyone know where you can get a quality stand that will hold a classic style V, Hercules clearly isnt it ?

    I enjoyed the intro jam; the chord loop reminds me of Phil Keaggy's "Full Circle" - czcams.com/video/Txs9RnjczQw/video.html. Re: stands, for times when you forget or don't have room for a full stand, something like the StewMac Pocket stand is worth keeping in a gig bag. It lets you lean your guitar against your amp or other similar object, but more safely. The StewMac one is a bit heavy; I also have a lighter one but can't remember where I got it. D'Addario's Guitar Dock is similar. I have a small car and favor small stands (though I'm not doing weddings and such, where there may be more traffic by the guitars). I like the K&M A-frame stands, for both electric & acoustic. -Tom

    We have Hercules two-fer and three-fer on stage and I loathe setting them up, tearing them down, and the hangers are janky AF. They need to be wrapped with a strap or band to stay folded. They're just unwieldy and cumbersome.
    I'd rather have a roadie, but that's not gonna happen 😁 so I use a single guitar On-Stage GS8100 with a similar grip hanger.
