Nice video. Despite the issues we have had with ours, it’s still a pretty good machine m.

Thank you for the video. I have a similar model and I am super happy with it.

We have a similar model. Overall good for cleaning, but KitchenAid uses cheap plastic parts on the rack. We have replaced several rack parts at a cost of over $200. The plastic gets brittle from the heat over time. This started happening only 2 years after purchase (but past warranty on those parts). This is why they cost less than units with comparable functionality. So that is something to consider - lower price but more maintenance of rack parts (wheels, clips, etc.). But main functional parts have been fine (motor, sprayers, etc)

We've had ours for roughly 18 months. Out of nowhere it stopped cleaning dishes - I would find the detergent pods on the bottom fully intact after the cycle ran. Of course the dishwasher is out warranty. So, I researched online and figured out the Water Intake Valve had to be replaced. I ordered one online for roughly $65 with shipping and replaced it myself - I have no desire to pay a repair man a large amount of money to do something I am capable of. Well, that worked for about a week, then the dishwasher stopped drying the dishes. Here we go with a new heating element at a cost of roughly $65 including shipping. I struggle to understand how the quality can be so poor that the dishwasher is basically falling apart when it is less than 2 years old.

Heating element? Were you paid for a negative comment?

Not sure what that means about being paid for a negative comment!
I’ll share my experience. A friend had a problem with their KitchenAid dishwasher a little after the year warranty expired. I decided to investigate extended warranty support.
I looked on line and found a warranty extension was available for a really good price from the manufacturer (well, Whirlpool’s website I think it was)
I paid for the extended warranty and it did not require proof of purchase. Note: for sure did not require.
Anyway, a few weeks later (2 or 3 from memory) our washer started playing up. Control panel sometimes would not react to touch.
A week or so after that it would not react at all. Could not be used.
I contacted the company to see about service. They wanted a payment to send someone out. $135 I think it was. I paid that.
The engineer said it needed new control panel and control board. Something like another $300.
Wait! 400+ after less than 18 month’s of use on a dishwasher costing something like $1400?!?
Oh wait. I got that warranty… well Whirlpool said they never got my proof of purchase and were cancelling my warranty and refunding me. I said I did not want to cancel and was ok with the warranty they sold me. Not my fault they did not ask or require proof of purchase anywhere. They said it was a known fault of the website. I said that’s ok I have screenshots (crazy, but that’s me, I screenshot everything lol)
They did cancel and refund me by check in the mail which I returned to them. They then resold me the warranty at the same price they did prior, and honored the claim. Let’s remember they tried not to and dishonestly cancelled the deal until I pushed back.
In the end I got the replacement parts for 135+ some more but not a lot more and still have a couple of years on warranty but not without pushing my rights over their scheming effort not to honor basic honesty.
Since then, not covered by warranty, I have replaced three parts which snapped in domestic use by two people at a normal home with much lower than family level usage. The upper rack runner supports for the rack give way. It’s well documented on multiple sites. Design flaw. $25 plus postage and frustration both times they need changing and inconvenient when you get used to a machine cleaning the dishes.
It’s not a cheap machine. It should be better. They should provide a good warranty and honor it.

How well and sanitized can your KitchenAid clean in an hour?
I was torn between the Bosch 800 but decided to order the KDTM404EBL; my wife hates anything SS... After reading some comments .. I hope I made the right decision. I decided against an extended warranty?!?! Frankly, I'm really missing my 15 year old Jenn-Air .. cleaned the dishes fast!!! Not to mention it held up .. often a couple loads per day in less than an hour Normal mode. Yeah I get efficiency but my time is more valuable.

How is your Dishwasher holding up. I'm on here because I have a brand new Bosch that I absolutely hate. Fighting with the store I bought it from to return it. The bosch I bought takes 3 1/2 hrs on sanitize and extra dry mode and everything is still wet when you open the door. Cleans mediocre and the racking system is terrible. I'm sure you made the right choice.

This dish washer is made by whirlpool
We have one and had to replace parts in it and kitchenaid told us it’s made by whirlpool

You may have possibly misunderstood. The Whirlpool corporation owns Kitchenaid. Due to this, some parts are interchangeable.

Thanks for the tour. Sometimes when one is holding a camcorder in one hand while the other hand is busy doing something else, the end results is poorly made video which lacks focus and stability. all in all very nice description.
