    Hi Margaret here in New Zealand the newer jewelry at least one of the joining rings next to the clasp is not soldered due to safety reasons. So if the piece gets caught up on something it can free its self. Another tip I use to determining fake from real gold or silver is to wear it. Fake metal makes me itch like mad within 2 days of wearing it. Real gold or silver doesn't. Hope that's helpful.

  • @gregv7193
    @gregv7193 Před 2 lety +9

    I’ve had many real gold necklaces where the jump ring isn’t gold and the rest is. The reason for that is because that is the part most likely to break so sometimes that piece has been replaced at some point. Just a tip. The jump ring is not a good place to go right to.

    After seeing so many friends get duped with fake gold items after plucking down big bucks, I am so happy to settle for 'stainless steel' items. In gold color or silver. I get the 'bling' without the 'sting' to my wallet! And some of the pieces out there are just fabulous. Just saying...

    Ms. gal
    I have a chain stamped with 14k right but idk if it's white gold, sliver, or platnum since the chain is gray-ish. I say that becuz at certain angles its looks goldish and on the inside edges of the 14k it look golden as well. I've tried all the home remedies.
    I've put 2magnets next to it and it doesn't stick only thing that does stick is the end of where yu clip it on.
    2nd. I put a good size drop of vinegar on one of the links and nothing happened its still the same color, hasn't lost its color or shine either. It's shines beautifully tbh
    3rd. I've put it inside a cup of water to see if it floated, it didn't it went straight to the bottom. 4th. I scratched it on one of those scratch boards and it colored gold on it then put some vinegar on it to see if it would erase the scratches.. it did not... I repeated it 3times and all 3 scratches are still on there and with the same color. I tried wiping it off with the vinegar and that didn't work.. doesnt that means it is real ?
    Am asking for ur opinion bcuz i took it to a couple pawn shops, & 2 told me it was fake.. but they only looked at it and told me, they didn't actually scratch and put the chemicals on it??.. then another one did test it and told me it was 10k not 14k then out of nowhere the manager came and told me he didn't want it becuz it was fake the excuse was because it had a dark stain on it? And i even i proved to him by wipping it off and showing the chain had no discoloration when I cleaned it. He didnt even bother to see it bcuz HE WAS ATTENDING OTHER CUSTOMERS before he bumped in my business. Anyways i showed it to the other employee who first said it was real and all she said was im sorry and gave me that a look as in saying she agreed that he pulled a mest up move (Which really tickted me off).. so yeah all the test I've tried on it the chain has passed but I take it to try and sell it and get reject somehow??. Could it he that the chain really is fake? Or that the people checking it dnt know what they are doing ??

    Did you know most 14kbis actually 13 point whatever..and that it is still legally 14k. So if you test the 13. Whatever k necklace you have with 14k acid......it will dissolve... because it is 13k...why didn't you try the 10k acid on the gold necklace. Not for sure but there might have been a chance it was below 14k per the standard of the us government.. pretty amateur stuff in this video!

    Gold plated is junk jewelry. Gold filled over Sterling is not junk, once the thin layer of gold wears off you still have Sterling silver! Also Gold filled is not as good as gold filled over sterling but it still has a thin layer of Gold. A lot of sterling silver chains you get from China, Hong Kong, any other places like that the only tiny piece of silver you get is that piece that says 925! And like the tiny stud part that goes in the ear those can be marked and the rest of the earring not be real! Now If It says Italy 925 9 times out of 10 you will be ok. I make jewelry and those stamps are easy to buy off eBay! Also Platinum is not worth more than gold is it's just harder to get that's why it cost more! I do not stamp my jewelry so I'm pretty sure there are more home jewelers that do not stamp their jewelry either. So It's a good Idea to test more parts of the piece of jewelry. I would invest in a metal purity tester kit! And even a diamond tester if you're into testing your jewelry before you sell it like Texas Gal here does!

      Not all the time , some gold items are based metaled with steel alloy & copper - then they are Gold Plated / Flashed { up to 1 micron thk. }
      sometimes they are heavy Gold Plated or Rolled on Silver { Vermeil 2-3 microns thk. } or on Zinc/Copper.
      Just remember that you have to separate the ferrous gold from the non-ferrous gold ... ferrous gold has to be Cupelled !
      the non-ferrous gold has to be Aqua Regia Acid !
