- here we are again with another woodcarving tutorial carving a typical Woodspirit in found wood "a stick". Although alittle more difficult than the 5 minute wizard found in the "the most fantastically simple yet satisfying carving ever" video i believe it is still very attainable for most and may just get you hooked on woodcarving
-Tools used in the video
1 7/8" Occ Tools knife ,#9 gouges 5 and 10 mm, 3 and 6 mm v-tools made by Pfeil but would recommend palm tools over mid sized handles as i use
-buy me a coffee ,merch etc links can be found below in my Linktree link
-thanks for watching!

I love to carve wood spirits! I've moved from Ohio to Michigan to live with my mom. She's 91 years old and legally deaf. She has a cochlear implant. I've left all my carving tools in Ohio. We plan on traveling down to Ohio, so I can pick up some of my plants and carving tools. I don't have much time to work on my hobbies, but I'm sure that I'll have time after I settle in. My mom's "cabin" has a lot of space. Before my dad passed away, he added a three car garage and above it he built a three bedroom and shower.
Sounds like a great place to set up shop. Close to family and everything
You’re like the Bob Ross of wood carving and it’s awesome
This 👌🏼🙏🏼
I’ve been watching you for years now Doug. I actually used one of your videos (stopping, scrolling back, re starting) to carve my very first carving. I use the step by step process to making the face then just let the personality come out as I go. We appreciate the time and effort as well as your talent that you put into these videos.
I really love your fun "out & about" videos. Your high speed adventure really go well with your calm no nonsense carving instructions. Thanks for doing such a good job!
Really enjoy a slow, detailed carve- so calming!! Thanks Doug- love the birds
As well! Thanks❗️
V
A Bob Ross moment here.👍
Watching the beginning of this, I thought of Michelangelo's saying. The sculpture is already complete within the block of marble, I just had to chisel away the extra bits (a little bit of paraphrasing, I am sure). -- The Wood Spirit was already in the stick. You just had to remove the extra wood for everyone to see him.
GREAT!!! One of the best small face instruction on CZcams.
My daughter joined her FFA club at school and brought home 2 chickens and I absolutely love watching them bopping around the backyard. I wish the video came out a few weeks ago I just got back from camping. Thanks
Fantastic thanks Doug, i think one of your hen's just laid an egg 😁😁
The one sheepishly coming down the ladder did lol
Love all carving’s Doug you started it all for me in the world of carving can’t thank you enough 👍
I'll keep practicing Doug, and some day, I will have the coolest set of tent pegs 👍👍👍
Love the sounds of nature adding to the peace.
Wow, This has become some seriously highfalutin wood carving. I am very impressed. Knives and gouges and chisels. We grew up back in the 50s and 60s whittling sticks into spirits and gnomes with just a pocket knife. You fellows nowadays have taken it to a whole new level.
Love this! Can't wait to try carving one.
I've been a competitive wildfowl and Kentucky Rifle builder for years. Thank you. In an hour I learned much from your sculpturing technique that might have enhanced some of my finished pieces.
You the man, Doug. I always look forward to your video's your such an inspiration to all who follow and watch you. Thank you so much for your inspirational video's.
Just awesome Doug - you are a phenomenal teacher with the most pleasant and natural demeanour!
Thanks for your pleasant videos, Doug. I live in Sweden, and I didn't know that I was capable of carving this kind of things until your videos inspired me to try! I have now carved a couple of wood spirits and a "little man". Started out just a week ago. And they look just awesome!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
The Bob Ross of carving! What an amazing channel! Doug, thank you for sharing this with us!!!!
Hands down, the best eye carving video I have ever seen, and I have seen plenty. Thank you Doug
Doug ... You are the Bob Ross of woodcarving. Thank you for another beautiful video.
Thank you Doug, for another great and very helpful vid. I love them all from beginning to end! Each of your carvings I've tried to imitate has turned out great, so you must be doing something right.
This time I'm seeing good use for gourge and as you said before it's not just the tools but they adding speed
I'm really enjoying these lessons and hopefully I'm going to apply your teaching to my pleasure pass time
Thanks 👍
Thank you Doug!
Thanks Doug!!! 👍 much appreciated!
Best to you and your family
The luck of getting that scar, positioned perfectly over the eye. That is crazy, only 9mins in so I don't know if it changed much but still crazy.
Another wonderful carving....... you make them look so easy. Another one for the to do/must do list. 😁🏴
Inspirational! You make it look easy which is evidence of you being very skilful indeed. Love your calm conversational commentary. Thank you!
Thanks Doug. Iove the slow and steady carves. The eyes are a problem I have, so I will be playing your video over and over again so I can try step by step to fix my spirits eyes. Thanks again

Great carve! Thanks, Doug.
Great 👍🏽 Job Doug!!!
Looks great Doug
I purchased some fantasy literature wall art online for my home, and suddenly my CZcams suggestions are full of crafting videos. I'll think on the more sinister connotations of that later, but for now, what a great video! You chose a beautiful spot to film, the birdsong makes a wonderful, soothing musical counterpoint to your verbal instructions. Watching you transform the raw stick into a piece of art was fascinating! You are an incredibly talented artist. Thank you very much for the video!
I loved this journey you took us on at the start of the video. It was never about the stick 🥰
Lovely little carving very relaxing
Fantastic
Your talents since I started with you have advanced to a whole new level Doug. Well done Sir !!!
Awesome carve, thanks for showing us the use of the gouges ! I’ve used mine quite often but this is a real help. 👍 🤗
Once again MAESTRO...
Jest pan bardzo zręczny w rękach i fajnie się patrzy jakie cudeńka pan robi.

I’ve watched quite a few wood spirit tutorials, the eyes you make are the best I’ve seen. Thanks for the video!
Brilliant
Great carve and video Doug. Great to see the detail of the carving and your tutorial.
Ah! The beautiful forest paths! I live in one of these !
Loved watching this, thank you
Awesome
Hey Doug you’re so creative and l truly love watching you carve. Thanks so much. 👍👍👍👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯😎😎😎
Knew I guy here in south Florida who carved cypress knew I have 9 of them.
Sadly he was a heavy smoker and never wore a mask when he used Drexel. Last time I saw him at out art fair he gave me 2 and said I wouldn't see him next year because of lung cancer.
Such a kind man .He also did walking sticks .
Your work is very similar.
Appreciate the vid .be safe 👍🏻
Loved the opening!
A lot of fun to see this. Back, in the late 80s, early 90s there was a guy who carved these with a Dremel and sold them in a Utah mall at Christmas time. That one in the background looks just like his.
That was a delight. Using a stick makes this feel like an accessible project. Thanks for taking the time to make the video after posting on your instagram.
Unbelievable sculpting. Stumbled on to this. You can see the face most can't. I surely can't. Never drew to well either except for prints for construction. I commend you for your craft, excellent 👍
Great video. Thank you so much
Outstanding Skill .... !!!....😃
Grandissimo 🔝
I love watching you carve, Doug. I wish I was half as good at it. I know it takes time to get this good. No one starts out with this much talent. I should start, now, at 50 and see if I can make it before I'm older and dead. Lol.
It's funny to see how people see things so different!! This is wonderful!!!
excellent carving...wonderful teacher..so enjoyed this
That's so cool how you made them just look to the left so easily
I used to do this as a teenager but on soap bars. Always wanted to try wood but never really got to it. It was great fun!
Great video Doug! Feels like you captured the fun and sun part of summertime. Have a great week!
I just rewatched this and did my second carve!!! Loving it 😄 thanks Doug, you make it so much easier and faster having already worked it all out for us beginners. Cheers from Australia 🍻 🌏
Love your curiosity 👍🏼
This is SO COOL
