- I finally got my hands on an eCorder - a fully electronic recorder designed and built by Michael Shonle! I put this new instrument through its paces in terms of sounds, range, dynamics, response.... and it was so much fun!

I can see the band in Star wars using this...
It could become the official instrument for America's new Space Force.
... whereas the imperial storm troopers all play the Roland Aerophone AE-10, to match their uniforms.
Best analysis of this abomination I've read. I played in a recorder ensemble in college, and learning how to play bass recorder, to learn subtlety, and work with an ensemble, was to bring me back to when these instruments were viable 'band' sounds. This is just wrong, on so many levels. It's almost as bad as "Awful Tune" for singers.
LunaLakshmi dude I immediately thought Lightsaber. Lolol
I thought the same, only with star trek lol
Me at first: Kill it with fire it's so ugly!
Me three minutes later: I need one for the house and one for the car...
Don't eCorder and drive
Me at first - kill it with fire it's so ugly. Me at second - kill it with fire it sounds horrible, it pointlessly expensive and there are a million other instruments (Yamaha wx5, Roland ae-10) that do the 10000x more with the same fingerings.
Jeff Wulf something it has that my wx5 doesn’t: an accelerometer to modify the sound.
Repent sinner for the time of the Corden is at hand.
@@melcrose ummmmm that instrunent is awesome 🙄😒
This thing is pretty impressive! I was thinking "take my money!" right up until "It's $1800..." Slowed my roll right back down to the plastic recorders and ocarina aisle....
A built in speaker, bluetooth MIDI and a $500 price would have pushed me over...
Michael Persico Bluetooth AUDIO is sh*t, bluetooth MIDI is working terrific.
Plastic instrument crew checking in.

You can buy an EWI (electric wind instrument) that plays like any woodwind (minus clarinet, recorder, and bassoon) with a customizable fingering system to your liking with an onboard synthesizer and midi control for under $800. The 5000 also has wireless capabilities, but it’s a bit more expensive than the USB (don’t buy it, not worth it) or the 4000s (totally worth it). Totally recommend for any wind player, really similar to the ecorder
lmao practice that in the train and everyone around will be thinking youre wildly smoking a bong
You failed to show where the nicotine cartridges are inserted. Also, how do use it to remotely close my guitar door?
It has everything from baroque to dubstep!!
An additional note about the eCorder. You said it sometimes produces an unwanted lingering note. This happens sometimes with MIDI wind controllers, which this is. The eCorder is equipped with a panic button, which in MIDI terms is an "all notes off" button which will instantly turn off any notes that are "hangovers". I don't have the instrument myself but I read about it in the on-line manual.
I think i'm fine with the traditional😂😂
Im Aan 👍🏻
This seems like one of the best electronic versions of a wind instrument I've seen!
xenontesla122 id recommend checking out the Akai ewi models, it’s a lot cheaper and has all the same features (and then some), and customizable fingerings
Yes, Mike has been working on this for over 10 years.
I'm not really sure I like this new sonic screwdriver design (But Sarah, you'd make a perfect Doctor).
Corne de Bruine
The new Doctor actually looks like her!
Omg, too true, I think she would be a batter tardis, she embodies the chaotic good that is the soul of the tardis
Omg! This instrument is magical, so many hours of fun!
Oh my goodness! As a composer, I would SO LOVE to write something for this mega machine!
This is so awesome! It gets me excited for the improvement in technology and the creation of more electronic instruments. I still love the acoustic counterparts but it's awesome to see what new sounds and colors we can create with an electric version.
This does look fun, and I'd actually like to see a side-by-side with the Mollenhauer Elody, even though they are different things. Given the direction of a lot of modern compositions now, these electronic instruments, which still take skill to play properly would be an interesting addition to the music world. But, yes, price tag. Wish I could win the lotto.
Limited by your Imagination. Endlessly Fascinating. Well done.Thank you , The eCorder and Sarah Jeffery for your Brilliant review, dear..
You could route this thing through some guitar pedals and make some really rad effects. I also love that it can be used as just a midi controller too. That means it's got infinite sounds. Love it.
Wow! Definitely the recorder is an alive and amazing instrument. With the ecorder the possibilities are endless!
Since I live with a person who has ears, and also in close vicinity to many other people with ears, the silent practice feature of this instrument greatly appeals to me, unfortunately I simply can't afford it.
It takes a pro like you to be able to use all the features of this ecorder !
Really nice playing! Love instruments like these.
Incredible instrument! And your quality as interpreter is amazing!!
This thing is fascinating!!! Alternate universe me would totally buy one.
incredible, very interesting, I'm going to show this to my mother for her recorder group, they'll either love it or... well you know.
6:51 Recorder funk? I'm here for it
Looks like something out of a sci fi movie
Hi Sarah, this e corder is awesome! It's a pity because it's too expensive for me, I was wondering if in the next e corder generation could make sounds like a saxophone tenor, soprano, orquestra sounds, trumpet, strings, violin, viola, cello, flute transversal, guitar, piano, piccolo, harmonica, melodica, organ, and other interesting sounds. What I understand is that this electronic recorder it has the capability to do some sound effects , and the bass, tenor, alto, soprano and sopranino recorders, which is amazing! We have already keyboard with a lot of different instrument sounds, electric pianos, electric accordions, electric phones that play as a guitar and piano, and now this e corder. Wow! Just amazing, the bad thing is that I just can't afford it at all to get one, but I'm happy you have one in your hands. I hope you do some more videos for this amazing e corder! Greetings from Tijuana!
Oh my!!!
I love this thing....
I hope isnt so expensive...
Thak you
I really like so much you way to play...
That's really neat, you'll have fun with that!
A very interesting instrument and a most charming presentation!
Any issue with the condensation from one's breath, I mean condensation and electronics don't go well together.
I love your excitement 😊
Interesting instrument, great review and a vivacious lady! Thank you!
Wow that is so awesome!
I love the F-1 set up because it is nice for funky grooves.
If I had your recorder chops I’d buy one of those right now
Very fun, I love your sense of humor!
Got to have one!
I can see where someone like you, who likes modern electronic recorder music, would have a blast with this! For me, not so much. LOL
Love your reviews.
MG that's really cool. I want a ecorder too!
I am amazed!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Impressive e-Corder!
This is a MIDI controller in the shape of a recorder.
Yeah, and it's triggered by blowing. So you have all the dynamics of wind instruments. It's actually really interesting.
Yeah. That's the point. It allows a recorder player to do MIDI music without learning many new skills.
That's a projector away from being a holophoner
EstradaDude my thoughts exactly!
Amazing, want one x
Your explanation is quite good and your accent is understandable...which is helpful.....love u..thank u
Nice! I'm looking forward to see what comes out of this :)
I want one of these!!! 😮
A new wind driver, love it ! I spend lots of time with the Yamaha WX7, but: all wind instrument player laugh and don't take these gadgets seriously. For me it is adding to my instrument collection. I love experimenting !
As a guitar synthesiser player, I think it’s great that players of acoustic/traditional instruments can get access to non-standard/unusual sounds from the instrument they prefer playing, rather than having to fumble about with keyboards. I guess things like the Roland Aerophone and the previous Akai and Yamaha wind controllers are more targeted towards players of instruments like saxophone or clarinet than recorder players, or have you tried those too ?
Oh! Posted over a year ago but why no reply Sarah?
It’s a simple and honest question and you are missing a golden
opportunity to directly engage with your audience.
I certainly will not subscribe to your channel as a consequence.

First time I heard about this e-recorder. Really interesting
Hello Sarah, this was a welcome review.
I didn't like it too much on sight, but I realised that it is much easier to play than it looks, with all those buttons.
It is probably more interesting for a professional recorder player.
Perhaps they could create another version, with less functions but a little more amateur-friendly.
Awesome!
I have not played my recorder in years. Came across this by accident, and she among other things is a fantastic player!
I'm so jealous! I want a version for flute. I'd love to practice in the middle of the night without getting yelled at! I play some recorder too, but it's....just a little out of my price range.
Knitwit Get an Akai EWI USB. They’re significantly cheaper, come with a few of the flute family with the added bonus of loads of horns, brass, reeds, synths and pitched percussion.
This is unbelievable... I need it in transverse flute form.....
Hahahahaha that saw with low pass filter was cool. This is an awesome instrument.
Amazing
very cool. much respect
5:39 I was thinking that it would be a waste if it couldn't cover the whole range that existing acoustic recorders can cover, but I guess they did one better and extended the low end by a fourth below a Paetzold subcontrabass...and the high end a third above the standard top note of a garklein, I think?
They can't have programmed what pitch every possible combination of fingers should produce, so I guess that means it must do some kind of physics simulation that works it out.
The low and grungy setting.. lol first thing that came to mind: me auditioning to join a heavy rock band and saying "I play the recorder". lol
Sarah could make any blowy thing sound good. I only come here for your expressions and verbal sound effects
My dog is really amazed.
NICE ... I like it .... I’m a Keyboardist and Guitarist ..... Now , after seeing and hearing this ... I wanna play it 🤗
So cool!won a subscriber from Brazil
This instrument is hilarious :D I'm not even a recorder player but I had to watch this!
7:08 absolutely slaps
You seem like such a damn nice person
Im fascinated more and more with every video I catch up on
Ye I'm a fan
I think this is the coolest digital wind instrument I have ever seen.
Cool thing!
It's like a mouth keyboard, with smarthome features. Very cool.
This was mind blowing (pun intended) 😍 I would love to hear an e-larinet. Really impressive instrument all in all.
@@MyRackley I will check this out straight away, thank you for the tip ☺️
The profile view of that thing looks like a starship model for a sci-fi movie.😁 Very cool piece of technology. If they can get the minor bugs smoothed out and quiet the output down (common in a lot of MIDI instruments), it may be pretty well received. I'd like to hear it in an actual performance.😉🎵🎶
I like that little jam you had going on the F-4 (low, fat, and grungy) setting.
Makes me want to freestyle rap.
Using 16th positions to accent slower tempos (if kept minimal) don't impede the slow-groove feel.
Tasty.
excelent flute ...congratulations.sara😁
This is sooooooo cool! :D I absolutely love it!!!!
7:07 is the recorder that stoner metal has been needing all this time and never knew it
OMG ITS AMAZING :00
BASS player here, a VERY versatile instrument, sounds very good, with accoustc quality.
A vulcan blocked my mind, preventing me from getting one right away !!! ;)
Seeing the price of this and 'taking deposits for delivery in a year or so' definitely made me feel good about my recent Sylphyo purchase XD
Good review, tempting apart from the 'serious investment' aspect.
Thanks
Ha, I thought of 3 questions, and each time one popped into my mind, you started talking about it. Cool review, but man, that price tag!
Hi Sarah, I really enjoy watching your videos. What was the Jazz song with the sax that played during the footage you showed the ecorder at 1:33?
Nice eCorder
magical!!
Your video is great!!! Love it!!!
That would fit in so well with my electronic stuff collection, but it is so expensive and ant play :D
it is awesome!
Star War Influence must be!!! Ambient Music needs this.
I can't even play the recorder, and I want one!
(okay, I actually HAVE a freshly purchased soprano baroque recorder
but I haven't paid it much attention yet 'cause flute & fife are my first loves)
For me the prospect of practising without my family stringing me up is very attractive. Sarah, you are a clearly a timelord.
You are wonderful. So is this fancy thing. Double wow.
I wish car reviewers were as detailed and easy to watch! I only came here to see if such a thing existed but stayed for the content. = D
Great review, i just thought Blakes 7. It is certainly versatile, thumbs up.
6:37 R2-D2 sounds
Sounds F1 and F4 are dope as heck :0
Impressive! think I will have to start saving :-)
Thanks God you played the Allemande 😍
Seeing this, it would be fun to have a comparison with the Eigenharp pico (which isn't trying hard to be a recorder but has ample modulation possibilities for fingers and wind input). Heck, even just plugging in a wind MIDI instrument (e.g. an Akai EWI or Roland WX7) into a synthesizer can be much fun for a fraction of the price...
You are adorable! I love to watch your videos, I have learned a lot!
I wish it was still up for sale! I remember when this came out I was still new to the recorder and thought this was a hefty investment to practice silently, now it's discontinued and I have all the regrets!! I hope they drop a V2, there's really no other midi instrument so perfectly suited for recorder players.
Good news - according to a post in July 2023 on the website, two new models, the Faraday Y1 and Y2 are in development and expected to ship sometime in 2024.
