    Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
    Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
    The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
    Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
    Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

    That first CMW still my favorite of all of em. Hard beats and rhymes, and DJ Mike T was cuttin it up nice. I sure miss scratching in rap songs, always one of my favorite things about hip hop. Loved hearing dope verses get cut up for a chorus in a song. Props to all the real djs out there.

    Look how Eazy-E tried to help everyone out. But they came out with the narrative that he was getting over on Cube and Dre. Truth is Eazy didn't have none of the artist signed after blowing them up, which is bad on Eazy's part no tthe artist. Cube is now a free agent and Priority offers him a deal to go around Ruthless and sign directly to them and his album can come out next instead of waitig on Ruthless to release another NWA, DOC, REN etc. Cube has to save face so he makes it like he not getting paid.

    • @DB800187
      @DB800187 Před 2 lety +3

      Yep. Eazy was just figuring out the financial part of the business himself too in the beginning. Look at all the other artists he dealt with throughout his life, they all talk about how he helped them and how generous he was to everyone. I know Bone had complaints about their deal, but that was after they blew up. Eazy just signed them to a deal starting off, and if he had lived im sure he wouldve reworked things with them. Its just like with anything, you dont give someone a max contract when they are first starting, they have to prove themselves, then renegotiate. Cube and Dre had people in their ears, look at how things turned out with Dre at Death Row, he left all his music there. Thats alot worse than anything that ever happened with Eazy. Suge was a cancer to hip hop tho, always f'n things up for people.

    • @urbanflavorz
      @urbanflavorz Před 2 lety +2

      @@DB800187 Eazy-E helped all them out. Cube left because Priority was going behind his back trying to sign them when they found out none of the members were signed to Ruthless. Things went so fast for NWA that they blew up and was on tour without a contract. People don't realize thats BETTER FOR THE ARTIST. No record label is going to promote an artist, put them in videos, album out and on tour and blow them up and not have them signed. Now you got Cube as a free agent. And he was thinking he should get what Eazy-E got when the money came in. Eazy-E was the CEO and artist. You don't get what he gets.
