I Visited A TRADITIONAL FARM In Thailand To See How PALM SUGAR Is Made 🇹🇭

  • PHETCHABURI, THAILAND - Petchaburi, Central Thailand, is home to many palmyra palm trees. They are also known as sugar palm or toddy palm trees and grow in plantations. I decided to visit one of these sugar palm orchards to see what is sugar palm and how palm sugar is made. It’s an amazing tree, with so many uses, and so important throughout Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia and India. It was very fun to visit the traditional sugar palm farm, especially in rural Thailand. It really did feel like a special experience and I was the only foreign tourist there. It seemed to be a great place to come with the family and learn about the farm. You could also buy products like the palm sugar, palm juice and even Thai food.
    I first saw this fruit in Cambodia in 2017 during my first trip to Asia. My guide took a photo of me with it, but I had no idea what it was. So when I had the opportunity to visit the traditional Thai farm, I decided to go and find out more.
    Before visiting this palmyra palm tree fruit plantation, I didn’t know all the different uses of this amazing fruit and tree.
    Palm fruit cluster
    Fresh palm sugar sap
    Palmyra mesocarp pulp
    Palmyra fruit - Seed socket
    Germinated seed

      Perfect. Yeah the traditional way! And this place does it so clean, but authentically with wicker and bamboo. Toddy from coconut trees is what you gotta have next (to compare!), and you will easily find it as you head farther South (specifically NakonSriTammarat!) very cool informative and fun vid today Joe. Nice work!!

    The best sugar its better than white grain sugar that made of sugar cane. Its healthier and we use this palm sugar for food. Petchabury where you are now its the place that famous for this palm sugar...its called Nam tan tanode. In thai.

    @7::16 until 7:40 took you back to your childhood for a moment, right, Joe? 😁 I like palm toddy with shaved ice in a hot summer day, and steamed palm cakes. I think, to me anyway, the juice has a hint of caramel in it, which is very unique in and of itself. Delicious whichever ways they are prepared. Glad you went to the source, Joe. 😋

    That Malaya - Thailand border is an insult to Malaysia. Malaya was a colonial name before Malaysia gained independence from the British.

    • @hungrytoexplore
      @hungrytoexplore  Před 4 měsíci

      Sure! That’s why I referenced that it must be old, and I have not heard it called that anymore. Remember the border is owned jointly so I don’t think it’s a purposeful insult, I guess they just haven’t changed it
