Might need another phone call about this squirrel thing you got going on… 🐿️
Any time Kaz! And thanks for all your help with the panda. I see more BHL tees in my future thanks to my arsenal of new save selections
Hi kaskisuo
@kasimirkaskisuoofficial @kanevangate we are already on top of the squirrel at Ztending HQ! Thanks KVG!
Thanks to the squirrel I went from 8U house league to the NHL instantly. Bless up KVG 🙏
I will definitely try this in my next game. I’ve never seen a way to stop all of the fancy moves at once. Thank you for informing me on this.
I’m a goalie for my high school team, I tried it out and it worked. I used it in practice and so am getting better at the squirrel. Thanks for the advice
What is lost with a lot of goalies and lower level goalie coaches is that a lot of these save selections have specific conditions you're supposed to use them in. An NHL/Pro level coach is going to drill when you are and are not supposed to use a specific one. But as the info flows down the ranks, it often gets compressed to just "do this fancy save selection" and loses the additional context, and then becomes a habit for a young goalie.
VH was one of the more glaringly obvious ones because although the catcher up protects decently, the blocker side up has holes and is only useful at a few ranges/angles. But for the longest time, goalies were just using it for anything that wasn't out in front.
You can use the knowledge to great effect if you're a former goalie playing forward in beer league. RVH? Bounce it off the side of the head or inside the post above the pad (so many don't seal it, it's an awkward position). VH? Use them as a passing board. Overlap? Bounce it off their back.
Oh, and many forget they aren't a 6'7" Russian contortionist who can get away with staying in said position for a lot more angles/distances. Us shorter goalies (below 6'2") have to move a lot more ;)
very well said. I personally do not like the RVH at all. I am a 5'10" goalie and still use the VH primarily. One thing that I feel is never talked about is the ability to easily push off with your post leg for a slot pass. In the VH, my leg is already locked and loaded in anticipation of a pass. I can move from the post to a standard challenge position in the slot. Whereas with the rvh I can only move laterally. I dont know if that makes sense but I personally do not see any advantage of the RVH over VH but if the pros are doing it, there must be.
Not wrong that your the best BHL goalie and as a goalie you really helped me
"I wasn't ready" lol, I'll try _that_ in my next game.
You shood have more subs, this videos are the best
I’ve been doing the squirrel move for 20+ years, …actually quite effective.
Kvg thanks for helping get better at goaltending
I love your videos
What’s annoying is I originally did the panda then got coached not to do it because it’s “wrong” then now it’s the thing to do. Which leads me to believe a lot of coaches just repeat whatever other coaches say and have no real why things are done and not done in goalie positions
Obviously the squirrel
What Beer League level is your Team?
I feel like panda is not as much of a position save as the reverse where you sit and wait, the panda you have to time when you are about to go down
Squirrel easy
Nice
hey quick question here I'm turning 13 this month do you think itˇs too late to start hockey as a goalie if a can skate pretty well?
