  • The movie "Yesterday" comes out summer 2019 and poses the question "what if The Beatles never happened?" In this video, I look at the opposite question: What if The Beatles never broke up? I take a look at several interesting points of view, from film, magazine and the web.

    My Philosophy: I love music. I love all kinds of music. And I go into every album wanting to love it, so that’s my starting point for every review. Keep in mind, though, that music is a very personal thing. An album may hit me personally in a very different way than it hits you. That’s complexly natural and unavoidable, which is why I try to include some personal context in my reviews. It’s so you’ll have a better idea where I’m coming from. In the end, it’s still just my personal opinion, which is inherently biased, and which you may or may not agree with. Hopefully, once in a while, we’ll find common ground.

    Imagine a universe where sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band created an album known as the Beatles and would have been the pinnacle of their careers

      What was interesting is that the four guys on the cover of "the Beatles" album are clearly just the SPLHC band, without the uniforms, wigs and makeup--it's so obvious. It's just that "the Beatles:" also had that black keyboard player named "Billy Preston"---they said he died in a car crash or something...

    I was very happy to learn that Ringo and Paul, their families, and the families of John and George all approved of the movie "Yesterday."

    I wish The Beatles had planed their brake up in such a way that they could depart without all the drama and go do solo work and periodically reunited fore an album or perhaps a tour. I guess with all the business problems and creative differences happening that would have been hard. Had Brian lived I wonder if the break up had gone better.

    • @TrackXTrack
      @TrackXTrack  Před 5 lety +6

      Yeah, it probably didn’t need to be so messy. It’s a shame it ended that way, but at least they quit when they were at the top of their game.

    Not a history buff, Kyle? You just broke this ex-history teacher’s heart! My problem is that having lived through the Beatle era of the 60’s, I find myself occasionally shedding a tear or two whenever I’m listening to one of my Beatles’ albums while thinking back to those incredibly exciting days with the greatest band ever. It always happens when the last notes of the “Abbey Road” album are played. I just count myself as lucky to have experienced it all.

    • @TrackXTrack
      @TrackXTrack  Před 5 lety

      I can only imagine what it was like to have experienced Beatlemania when it was happening. I don’t think anything since has come close to it. Only Michael Jackson’s popularity in the 80s is dwarfed by how the world was impacted by The Beatles. I envy you that you “were there!”

      @@TrackXTrack I don't exaggerate a bit when I say that each release of a new Beatles' song or album became a worldwide musical event. You just never knew what this band was going to come up with next as it continued its march to revolutionize pop/rock music. Their musical growth during those almost 7 years was stunning to behold. We all just took a front row seat and listened and watched as it all took place.

    If You Take The Solo Efforts Of All 4 Beatles , You Get A Mixed Bag , The Good , Bad & Ugly. The New Wave / Punk Explosion Acts Would Have Considered Them A Tired Band. They Have Universal Respect Because As The Beatles They Never Put Out A Dud.

      @jacoblamberson2709 Před 2 lety

      If Freddie Mercury were alive...you've peaked my interest. There's alot of good ones but that would actually reinvent music today. They were very experimental in their music style and had they had a few more years under their belt who knows what music they would have made and how the next generation would have been influenced by it.

    Fascinating stuff. I agree that this area is one that could be explored in so much more depth and with multiple artists. Maybe you should write one of these alternative histories?!

    • @TrackXTrack
      @TrackXTrack  Před 5 lety

      I actually have an idea for an alternate history for a different artist, but I don’t know that I’m passionate enough about the artist to do it. And it’s hard to top the Beatles for their huge mythology.

    The Beatles already did make their own alternate universe by making Sgt. Pepper and fueling the fire on the rumor that Paul is not the real Paul. The real Paul died in 1966.

    I think the biggest question would be how modern music would sound without beatles influence. How much of a difference would that make? Would artists today still sound more or less the same, considering they do still have their own ideas regardless of influence. Or would it sound completely different? Would it be any better or worse? Would there have been another artist/group taking the beatles' spot, but with a very different sound?

    • @TrackXTrack
      @TrackXTrack  Před 5 lety +1

      As much as I love The Beatles, I think the truth of the matter is other artists would have made similar artistic advances even if they had not existed. In fact, had The Beatles not existed, artists like Dylan and the Beach Boys may have evolved differently and may have filled that void themselves. But of course The Beatles did it all first, and did it well, so we revere them for that.

    Another alternate Beatles story is the John Lennon BBC TV program, Playhouse Presents, Episode: "Snodgrass" (2013). What if John lennon quit the Beatles in 1963 and lived to be a 50 years old blue collar worker in London? You can watch the episode on CZcams. Stars Ian Hart same actor from Backbeat (1994) and The Hours and Times (1991).

    Sure. An alternate universe where cassette tapes are not only still the default medium, but they retail with HAND WRITTEN cases. Makes total sense. Would have been much more compelling if they had put as much effort into the case and tape design as they did the audio.

    I think they would have struggled in the 70's ala the Beach Boys. Let It Be at the time didn't get rave reviews and Lennon/McCartney despised each other. Also, with the Vietnam War at its height, people were starting to favor darker, more aggressive bands like Led Zeppelin.
