    One day when your happy with your piston design you should consider getting it coated. Calico coatings does stuff for top fuel dragsters and all sorts of other engines. I had my turbo 800 hp 4 cylinder pistons done. The reduction in fiction and wear was just amazing. After a really hard season the skirts of the pistons still looked like the day I put it together. Just a thought....it's pretty reasonably priced. Not much at all.

    • @krazed0451
      @krazed0451 Před 3 lety +3

      Surely if you apply a hardened coating to the piston the barrel becomes the wear item?

    • @bradappel9928
      @bradappel9928 Před 3 lety +11

      @@krazed0451 no not for the piston skirt... its not a super harded coating like a black Diamond coating for wrist pins.... it's like a Teflon coating just better and too there design many piston manufacturer do a similar coating to there pistons for stock factory cars like bmw or even toyota now.....when you touch it it's smooth and with oil on it it's extremely slippery. It's like insurance....if you run low on oil once it could save the piston or the bore. But it does wear away if the conditions are poor..too tight a clearance or not enough oil so on and so on ...it's only 1 too 2 thousands thick. The cylinder liner would be much "harder" check it out sometime look into coating it's really a amazing add on to any build. Most common parts would be piston skirts and main bearings. They do have super hard coatings for wrist pins and rocker arms also ceramic coatings for the top of the piston to reflect the heat out and away from the engine.

      These are easy to rebuild and rings will never last. You have to remember this is basically the 49cc equivalent to an f1 engine as far as longevity is concerned. However, any increase in power from even a 1% reduction in friction may be worth it for a build aiming to be "the most powerful two stroke." Interesting suggestion.

    You can cut thin metal sheets with a small chisel and hammer on top of a mild steel plate that's softer than the chisel. I use to cut thick pieces as well like 3-5mm steel, first I drill a few holes along the cutting line and then put it in a vice and cut along the edge of the jaw between the holes and then clean up the edge with a file. You can cut fairly thick flat bars like this as well if you run out of hack saw blads and cutting discs.

    once you're done you should make a v twin one, maybe put it in a snowmobile or go kart.

    So I wreck a LOT of gaskets and seriously, the Cricut Maker is some of the best money I've ever spent! Would really recommend looking into one, they're easy to use and there is a ton of support for the system.

    Nice :) - Maybe put a water jacket air bleed on the rear of the head, as it's prone to hydraulic air locks and head hotspots(bad for pinking, etc)?? Top Tip: Whenever you use toothed(saws, files, etc) tools, then always use the No. 3 Rule. That is, the material being cut must ALWAYS be three times the tooth pitch, or when cutting thin items, then incline the saw into the workpiece at a 3:1(H:V) angle to the horizontal. Especially so with fret saws. :) Or try draw cutting(used extensively in Japanese carpentry). This rule also applies to lots of other techniques. I love 2 strokes, but hate that stinging throat and eyes thing!! ;)

    I am sure you know that most 2 stroke single ring pistons have a locating Pin goes in the ring Gap you could pin the top part of the piston Only since it threads into the bottom section then file your ring gap to your correct tension
