- One of the highlights of Ace Spades rally with Daily Driven Exotics (DDE) was being ticketed for having a windshield banner on our cars. While that alone was stupid (because the Kentucky Police Department tried to pull over everyone on the rally) what the biggest surprise was the ticket Jimbo got for stopping to see if Randy was ok. This encounter sets the new standard for police department ridiculousness. This video here is the CRAZY update to this ticket that involved the District Attorney BEING A FAN!!! A fan of Savage Garage who would have thought?
I talked to the district attorney about entrapment, the cops, and what his thoughts were and we found out some interesting info!

When you get out of your car, open the hood, check your tires like you have a flat, something that gives you a right to get out of your car.
Pulling over gives you the right to get out of the car lol. Here in Texas you can pull over to the side for whatever reason you want to, the worst that would happen is a cop pull up and see if your OK and if your fine he just drives off. Cops here will tell you especially if you get a phone call or have to respond to a text that they would much rather you pull to the side of the road, do what you need to do, and be on your way then answer it or respond while driving. This cop was out for quota
@@SpoookyGamez actually it's illegal to talk or answer your phone with out having it hands free. When the law came up it was almost mandatory to pull over. I live in Washington st. and see cars pulled over everywhere especially when cops are on routes.

Yeah kentucky commonwealth laws are the worst. 17 got 6 tickets in one traffic stop for what should've been 2 at most. Waited 6 months to go to court only to have it all dismissed. Total waste of time and tax money honestly

@@brieflean you call a traffic laywer because they can in a lot of cases get it reduced, or thrown out completely. In this case specifically, though, they dont care about fines, theyre willing to pay it if its an actual issue, but the situation was just stupid.
They still had to pay $243 + $50 for basically BS tickets. Most ordinary people can't afford to pay that kind of money for no reason.

@@tombryant4518 I know it's been a month since you commented but I just caught this video...Let me enlighten you on how screwed up our systems are here in the good ole' US of A. If you fail to show up for a court appearance, they will/may issue a "Bench Warrant". That is posted across the entire United States in our fabulous Data Base from hell, so at any time any law officer or anyone checking your ID (Boarder/Immigration) will be notified and you will be thrown in jail for holding. Where ever you are (Holding state) will then contact the issuing state in this case Kentucky and say they have you incarcerated for the bench warrant. They will then ask if the state wishes to hold for extradition for pick up to offending state. If the Kentucky office says yes (Even if they plan not to, which is often the case just to screw you) The Jail in which your held is required to hold you for a set amount of time for that to take place.
That could be a couple of days or longer, as they tend to lose you in the system (I know one guy who set in a jail for six months on similar Bench warrant type thing). When Kentucky doesn't show after that period your released. Which is fine and good at that point. However that Bench Warrant is not cleared and remains in effect. So in any state there after if ID'ed or when you come back into the United States again it starts all over again.
You will not be given any chance to bond out of this either. You must go to the original state and go to court and now with more charges and face the Judge and charges..Pay fines and or Jail time (Perhaps time served) and then and only then it will clear the Warrant. So In Short...Skip a Charge/Court in any state...best to never come back to US again....Just a bit of knowledge on how screwed up we are down here. Have a good one....I love Canada BTW been there many times before the whole Passport thing..Haven't been back since.
Repaid 1 That’s crazy! Up here, if I didn’t pay a traffic ticket in a different province, a warrant for my arrest would only be valid in said province.

I just want to add, although I think the hitchhiking ticket is ridiculous, the officer said that the statute is called hitchhiking, but it is defined as "walking on a limited access road" or whatever. I don't know if it's like that there in the USA, but here in Holland. a lot of descriptions are much broader then the name of the statute. So, it might be called hitchhiking, but really it should be called "walking where you shouldn't be walking". Just my 2 cents.
The cop was a dick, but both of these guys are apparently really stupid. It doesn't take much in the way of smarts to understand why the ticket is for hitchhiking, and it doesn't take much in the way of smarts to understand that "but I'm not from Kentucky" doesn't matter whne you're *in* Kentucky
Your comment reminds me of the LEO who had a Canadian pulled over and ticketed (or tried to ticket) for not having a driver's license from that state. He said that the Canadian license wasn't valid there. (There are reciprocity laws in place. A confused mind defaults to "No" and obviously he was confused.) People travel. Their vehicle usually complies with the laws where they are from. I am fairly sure that very few vehicles would meet every law for every state. For example, how many vehicles have a current, valid inspection / emissions cert from every state they drive through?
@@patrickbuick5459 Your registration is valid in other states because the laws only require that cars be legally registered. The specific equipment requirements of any particular state are a separate issue. Getting a car registered requires meeting the state law where you're registering the car, and operating a vehicle requires following the law where you're operating the car. It's pretty clear that the cop didn't write a ticket for an unregistered or improperly registered vehicle. He wrote a ticket for an obstructed windshield.
It should also be pretty clear that the obstruction wasn't OEM equipment, and likely not something that was on the windshield when the car was registered or inspected since the banner was about a short-term event.

You guys should have collectively hired a single attorney to contest every single infraction in court and subpoena every single citing officer to force the Judge, the County Attorney, each of the Officers, and the Clerk to spend their hours in court fighting for every penny they tried to cite you for.

Not really. They did the crime. The cop did his job upholding the "laws" even though they are somewhat ridiculous. Bowling Green, KY is my home town and a beautiful place to live even though I have not lived there in 18 years. To be honest, the cop had something stuck up his ass that day and decided to actually cite these infractions. Personally, I think he should have explained what he could have done, but let them go on their way with a warning.
I also agree the hitchhiking should be thrown out. How can you get a ticket for not doing it? The windshield one I agree is a ticket.
@@SIRKSxFUNK "hitchhiking" is just the name for the citation. It falls under the same ordinance as walking along a highway. I'm sure all the entrance ramps have signs that say this.

Probably the cop was mostly pissed about him getting out of the vehicle. He doesn't know why and now he is on edge because there could be a weapon or something. Getting involved in a stop as far as I know pisssis off most cops especially if the cop saw him trying to fix the camera.
It makes no sense to pull a car over, put them in danger sitting on the shoulder like that, for a sticker at the very top of his windshield!

I can feel your pain bro. I got fined $1,000 dollars for being a passenger in my friends car. The officer said we were drag racing. We were at a red light the light turned green then they gased it not even floored it. Keep in mind I was in a challenger r/t and my friend was in a camaro ss so it’s not like they’re super cars. We pulled only to like 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit . Regardless this was such a stupid reasoning to fine me and my friend in the camaro (passengers) $1,000 dollars .. both friends who were driving were arrested and sent to jail for the night and had their cars towed and couldn’t get them back for about a month. Their fees racked up to maybe around 7k minimum. This country is corrupt . No cap.

lmao I got a ticket for going '130mph' (turns out in my area they cant read any higher) and it was much cheaper than 7k. I think after fees and a lawyer it was like 3k. didnt even tow my car.
You should never walk towards a cop during a traffic stop.
Was wondering if they had realised this. It puts the cop on edge because know he has another person he needs to be aware of because now it unnecessarily increased the danger level of the whole stop. I would not be surprised if this was what pissed the cop off. This stop could have ended much worse. The cop was probably a lot nicer about the situation than he was in his rights to be.
@@hamsterwolf the 8th,7th,5th and 6th circuit courts have all ruled and is up held by the supreme court that a 10 foot radius of traffic stops is a reasonable buffer zone, further more if you want to argue that the officer has to divert his attention to a person walking,....what about the highway traffic screaming by him at 60+ mph.
@@alexandergrube8953 its not the distance this if you get involved in a stop this is a quick way to piss off a cop because people are crazy cops are on edge when you do stuff like that. They are concerned about being shot if you don't believe me go interfere with a stop and see how well that goes for you.

Yeah the situation sucks and if he was a nicer more understanding cop that would have been great. But this is a trigger for most cops. Just like you wouldn't make quick movements when a cop pulls you over.
@@hamsterwolf that's a false narrative, I saw that because let's say for the location was a residential st, do those walking on a sidewalk have to divert cross the st and walk on the opposite side of the road? Or perhaps the second car experienced a mechanical malfunction and the passenger got out to investigate? This can be what ifed to death but the point is the second vehicle stopped at more then a reasonable distance from the first traffic stop, so no one can't argue to whole attention diverted argument.

Yeah, the County Attorney was so understanding that he convinced everyone to pay fines rather than to fight the tickets and get them dismissed. He wasn't doing any favors to anyone but KY court system.

He calls the common wealth a district attorney and judge which are neither. Ky is a common Wealth state meaning it’s the state of KY vs you not the district of said state.
KY is a Commonwealth not a state. The prosecutor is the Commonwealth Attorney.

Thanks for the update. My take on this, DA is covering up for a corrupt cop as usual. Although he was nice and reduced the ticket, there should have been no ticket in the first place, and it was total waste of time and misuse of police power. DA knows it was bullshit, yet he still did not drop it and demanded money, instead of apologizing for the behavior of his officer. He just affirmed everything bad we hear About his state, and after all they did give the brown guy 2 tickets,.We just need to avoid going to Kentucky all together. Mark

I believe it Bro just two weeks ago I had a small SUV driving through Kentucky I got pulled over cop said I was doing 90 umm I had my speed set at 70 speed some was 65 miles an hour in the end I got a ticket in this case it was badge vs me and it was pitch black out!. Like dude I'm in a small SUV that will not even go 100 miles an hour !!

Im from Sweden, i love your Amazon! 66, its a B18 in that, isnt it? With a very small amount of service that engine can last like for ever, literally. One of the best engines ever built. But i wish it had some more power.😉 I did my service in the Swedish armed forces, so i can give you a fun fact, they used the follow up engine, the B20(came with the later Amazons)in a cannon in the Swedish artillery. It was called the haubits 77. You manoeuvered it with two joy sticks controlling a hydralic system that was powered by a B20 engine. Volvo also built a marin version of the B18 motor for boats. But they had to adapt it a little for the use in a boat, so its not exactly the same as the one in the cars.

Guys I live in Ohio we never go to Kentucky because of their weird traffic laws.
I'm in Columbus and the one good thing down there is they correctly use the left lane laws. Being from Detroit I think it's weird af that you guys all travel 15mph under the limit in the left lane and clog traffic for miles and miles, but other than that......

There's Kentucky caselaw that establishes that, because ANY LEVEL OR COLOR OF NON-REFLECTIVE TINT, including completely opaque tint, is legal down to the AS-1 line of the windshield, decorative stickers (that are not reflective) are also allowed in that area. Effectively, any kind of sticker you put in that region is just "tint," and thus legal provided it's non-reflective and above the AS-1 line.
That rule is because the AS-1 line is federal law, which automatically overrides any bullshit state or local rule. There is a reason that line is on every windshield sold in the USA. Too bad they didn't know that.
Hell, if your car has interior sunshades, which nearly all cars do, they COMPLETELY OBSTRUCT that part of the windshield, so stickers/tint would also be fine. Essentially, that part of the glass isn't considered "windshield."

Guys, for future reference, Kentucky State Police do not appreciate being approached during a traffic stop. It immediately sets the tone for the interaction and usually will not end well. I was a cop in KY for 10 years and can see both sides, however, it's just the way things are here. From a cop standpoint, id say approaching any police officer while they're busy dealing with someone else, is a bad idea. I understand that you guys had no ill intent. Just FYI. Love the cars, dig the videos, stay safe fellas.

He’s talking about modifications pertaining to a vehicle. For example, PA allows you to lift your truck high as you want. MD does not. If you have a PA tag a MD police can’t write you a repair order for the lift.
@@williamk5001 just because i have a air freshener hanging from my rear view in texas (not illegal) and travel to California (illegal, obstruction of view) doesnt mean its not illegal. Its an obstructed view, just like in some states a cracked windshield isnt illegal but in others you can be pulled over for it and cited. The officer enforces the state law, if its illegal in the state you can be cited for it. Its up to the DA if they want to drop the charges based on whats called totality of circumstances. Its not the officers job to determine if its legal outside of the state or what other states laws are. They are still fully within their job duty to cite a driver regardless of what state they are from. Some cops will, most wont. But when your a pompous jerk like this guy best believe your getting cited for everything within the law.
@@johnmarine44 Here in California, no one gets a ticket or a repair order for obstruction of view , I've heard mostly decals on windshields, if the car has outta state plates. It's the same with loud exhaust. So many people get away without noise violations because they're from another state. That's what the OP was referring to. Of course police give out tickets they're not supposed to. They're police!

The guys are in supercars and he knows they have done something illegal so he was going to get them with anything he could legally.

Absolute disgrace that shit like this still happens in this country. It was a flat out cash grab, hence the reduction of fines and letting you NOT go to court. You guys not going to court really saved their asses. All of those tickets, which more than likely were just infractions, should have been dismissed, but they know you’ll just pay the fines and let them steal from you because it would probably cost more to have a lawyer fight these atrocities.
