Sara was only an assassin beforehand. If you want to play like that, Laurel is only a lawyer. Laurel's whole purpose of becoming Black Canary was based off Sara. Meaning, Sara is the actual Canary.

She died because she overcame everything unlike every other character which is not dead that’s why the writers killed her it would have a bigger impact and there was nothing they could do to the character as she was in the best time of her life. In a nutshell laurel is best character for being the most complex and being the one with the best journey overcoming her boyfriends and sisters death her father the coming alchaholic her becoming alchaholic her mom going away
