    Yeah, these cutaway videos and stories help to improve my confidence that a) a line-twist or other malfunction isn't as terrifying as what I first imagined and b) as long as you stick to safety-first principles you're probably going to be just fine.
    Great video- awesome guys!

    Thanks for making this video with the interview, as a complete beginner skydiver(only one tandem) who is looking to do the AFF course, cutaways are the thing that scare me the most, so to see people who have been in the sport for a long time being very sensible about them is comforting:)

      Just remember your EPs. I had a cutaway on my 17th jump as a student. It was a low speed malfunction but uncorrectable. It was the only thing I was really afraid of to the point I had told my family (who don't really like me sky diving) that if I had one as a student, I'd quit. Terrified the hell out of me when it happened and I made myself go back up and do 2 more jumps same day (terrible exits too due to getting tense) but it all worked out.

    With all the tech today how come there aren’t any micro sized trackers you could pin somewhere?

  • @richardwiggins2646
    @richardwiggins2646 Před 2 lety +1

    Try and keep the canopy symmetrical when packing it and maybe leave a little more line after your final stow or reduce your stows by one, this may help stop the bag from spinning. If you do get twists like this try and get the risers level chances are it will start to fly straight. Well done on pulling the handles. 🙂

    • @SalvadorChangg
      @SalvadorChangg  Před 2 lety

      Appreciate all the feedback!!! Hopefully it will help others learn!! 🙏🏼

    • @ronaldonogueira74
      @ronaldonogueira74 Před rokem +1

      IMO line twists are rarely related to packing and almost always a result of unstable and/ or asymmetric body position. In this particular case he had a quite hard opening which disturbed his position leading to uneven risers. The headdown prior to the deployment may have contributed to this. If you deploy with a stable and symmetric body position your canopy should fly straight (or turn slightly) even if you get several line twists (unless you're flying a heavily loaded high performance wing). Another tip which has always worked for me is to never fight the canopy during opening but let it turn you to whichever heading it goes.

    • @nickid113
      @nickid113 Před 2 lety

      @@SalvadorChangg 2. Last one was similar to this but more extreme. Line twist on opening, then self induced toggle fire because I didn't pay attention to where I grabbed the risers. That put the canopy into a dive with me on my back. Outside video looks like I lost around 500' for every rotation. Had about 2.5-3 rotations before I chopped.
      At the end of the day, doesn't matter what anyone say because this guy did the right thing and landed safely.

    I've never jumped yet. Been thinking about heading over to Skydive DeLand. But quick question. Who packs the reserve? I did a Google search and saw it has to be packed by someone certified by the FAA. It seems there's a lot more rules over who can pack the reserve vs the main. Is this true?
    My fear is, a rigger is having a bad day and is careless with the pack. With my luck he also happens to have packed the reserve.

    • @SalvadorChangg
      @SalvadorChangg  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes this is true, only a certified FAA rigger can pack a reserve parachute. I am a rigger myself and would only trust myself or someone I trusted greatly to pack my reserve. If I was a fun jumper I would make sure to ask around and get the best of the best to pack my reserve. Someone with a great reputation who does quality work.
