Thanks for joining in the story of the Superman of the Pacific, Maui! I love how Maui can be a bit ambiguous, with some stories telling that his adventures are selfless, some saying they are for glory. He’s very relatable, as we all have a bit of both in us, I think.
Sending love to my Kiwis seeing this in the morning!

Nga mihi nui to you and your channel, really appreciate your work regardless of your pronounciations. We tangata whenua of Te Ika a Maui have many stories that have been passed down, this particular story alongside the separating of ranginui (skyfather) and Papatuanuku (earth mother) you have shared is one taught to us very young in age😊. Lots of deeper meanings to our stories.
Mauri ora from Te Pito o te Ika😊

What a great comment, thank you so much! There is so much wisdom in traditional stories, I’m really glad that you share them. Those would be some good ones for me to look into, too. It’s always interesting to learn how they are told across cultures, too. Thanks for being here!

Thanks Richard! I had to do a bit of digging to find the translations, but it was worth it, to say something other than “They’re all called Maui.”
      Cheers!

In the book : OLD WORLD ROOTS OF THE CHEROKEE by Donald Yates…in Chapter 2 he gives HISTORICAL PROOF that he was a real life Moroccan Carthaginian Sea General along with his fellow Captain RATA….General Maui sailed from North Africa around 225 BCE and landed in modern day Hawaii….Hopefully more information about this General will be put out into the world.

Kia ora (hello) Shawn, I appreciate the effort, you have a great narrative voice. It sounds like you are saying vakapapa, there is no v in Maori language it's wha(fa)ka(car)papa👍. There's a Maori Dictionary app that has a narrator so you could hear how things are pronounced but it still a cool effort✌️👍🤠😎

Taronga is not being pronounced correctly please do your research. It is so annoying to hear stories told by others who cannot even pronounce the words correctly.

This channel is an independent effort, so I am bound to make mistakes. I hope that the content itself shows that genuine effort and research was made.
I’m sure there are always going to be differences not only regionally (for example, the sources I used used a “Taranga” spelling rather than “Taronga”) but also due to my own limitations as someone who only speaks European languages. I aim for making this project the best that I can, so any earnest effort to improve things is appreciated.

Aue kare get back with that negatitive korero geez gurl your part of the reason people get whakama when it comes to learning or speaking te reo maori. Dont be whakahihi because you learnt something new from a pakeha, hes helping others to appreciate our culture and that can only be good for the world. And btw its Taranga dear . . . Maui tikitiki a Taranga . . . ko wai a Taronga? hei aha mehemea koina tona ingoa no tetahi atu motu o te moana nui a kiwa ana aroha mai mo toku he. Awesome Video Thank You.
