The tip re repairing the strain relief on a cable/plug is made better by using black hot glue rather than translucent. Also, for BEST protection, if one end of the cable is detachable then detach it and fit some heatshrink. If not, then self amalgamating tape works really well too.
@@jackgreenwood1817 think you missed the point ... The cable strain relief NOT the cable was the problem to which I was referring. Replacing the cable, sadly, would do nothing to resolve the issue! 🤔🙄
@@boblewis5558 if the cable relief has failed in a sealed plug then it's likely the cores inside have been stressed and are stretched/loose in their terminals. To prevent overheating/fire it's best to just replace the cable. In the example shown the strain relief is still intact but the outer insulation has pulled away from it, showing signs of over tension etc. and so who knows what's happened to that cable. For the sake of safety and minimal £ it might as well just be swapped out for new to be sure.

So you lose 6" to 12" of duff cable near the appliance, so what. Cost? Zero! If the moulded plug is where the damaged end is, just cut off the plug and cable to remove the damaged part. Buy a new plug top (cheaper than new cable) and rewire. I know that in Australia that (apparently) you are not allowed to wire up a new plug top - retarded or what!!??
