I made laptop out of Trash - With Desktop GPU

- Hi everyone and thank you for 11 minutes of your time. In this video, I make one functional ACER laptop out of a few broken and non-working. I had a lot of troubles with this machine and I almost gave up but somehow I managed to make this laptop work again. The eGPU is working fine and the laptop is much faster, it feels like using a totally different laptop, nice boost. I cannot really confirm about most laptop models about eGPU support, I found some laptops listed as supported but actually are not, and the opposite. Current Specs: i7 3632QM, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, okay for daily basic tasks.
✔️Disclaimer: I Done this project for personal use only, not for sale or any other distribution now or in the future. Also, personally I do Not sell any components, other hardware or software.

Andrew, I haven't watched the entire video but when you switched from the Intel Pentium to an i7 it's possible now you require a 95W power adapter. Some computers output a warning others just refuse to power on. Perhaps this may fix your issue.
Or a newer bios that accepts newer CPUs
He used the i7-3632QM, which got the same wattage as the dual-core Ivybridges, so the default 90W adapter for dual-core laptops with dGPU should be enough
the laptop with that upgraded i7 CPU exceeding that limit a bit. Let´s say you comparing dual core against quad...okay.. you saw that that the both cpu has same wattage which is on paper completely fine but in reallity the i7 consumes around 15 to 20W more than Pentium and you can clearly that checked by using stress test and thermal monitoring. Original pentium runs on that heatsink just enough cool, like idk 70c max but with that i7 the temperatures are not 70 but this time 80, that means that the i7 consumes a bit more. it is not a tragic, the VRM should be also good to go but it requires a bit more watching because they might be overheating at some point. I was upgrading from sandy bridge pentium to an i5 ivy and it did increased the overall performance but temps was also a bit off a safe area so i was forced to use a cooling pad and later that day i discovered that the copper heatsink itself has some varnish or coating paint to match the look of that laptop chassis so i removed that varnish with IPA and temps was like on that pentium but this time on i5 and that i5 was 45 and pentium 35

I remember first finding you from that alienware laptop you did a few years back with the carbon fiber. Your teardown and cleaning methodology are so good, and Ive tried to mimic the level of care you display in my own restorations. Be well!
I really admire your patience. Kudos!
Thank youu bro :)
I really enjoyed this video, yes a lot of work is put into restoring laptops but I gotta say you did a tremendous job, kudos on the eGPU upgrade I've been trying to do something similar for a personal project just to not get rid off of a gpu that I have stored
We need more gameplay footage. After working so hard on the machine do proper benchmarks with some known titles GTA V, Minecraft, Crysis etc
Got the same laptop and also tinkered around with an egpu. Got an 1060 amp to go with it and man it worked so good for a while. Moved over to pc a while back but that experimental stuff gave me an good experience.
Incredible! I have a Acer Aspire E1-571-6644 bought in 2013, which came with a i3-2328M....later I'd also swapped the CPU to a i7-3632QM and put SSD and 8GB RAM, the laptop's working till today with Win10! :)
Excellent work as always Andrew !
Well done Andrew, as always amazing, in depth videos, I’ve been a viewer for the last 2 years and it’s been informative and great in results! I ended up fixing up a PC build for myself throughout the year, refurbishing the power supply, increasing the ram, swapping the hdd for an SSD & saving up for a second hand 1660 super paired with an i7 over the lowered clocked Xeon it had, kudos & great progress, projects surely take longer but worth it all in the end when the results show up 🎉
That was a tough one for sure. It's amazing that you kept going. BTW, to me, an old laptop is a Pentium M or maybe a Core Duo!
Nice video. Thank you, Andrew!
Most of your videos already given me ideas, you were always the best 💪 keep up doing the good work bro we will be waiting for the next one
Andrew you are a genius!
Thank youu bro :)
The repair took a while but you got there!👍👍
Interesting project as always. You are really good at this. I enjoy watching it.
Thank youu bro :)
That's true love for tinkering and accepting challenges. This is not even vintage stuff that makes economical or sentimental sense to restore, it's just outdated stuff that sells for very cheap in working order and is worthless trash if it does not work. But you kept patiently working on it and showed you could do it. Congrats.
Hey Yo Andrew... wow congratulations... Your channel have grown really well..
I remember when I subscribed, you have less than 50k sub...
I enjoyed watching your videos with lots of patience for restoration....and frankensteining stuff ❤
Keep working, You are making good job👍
😮nice project bro
Great video, keep the good work up!!! :D
Awesome job Andrew!
Although the internal display works with the eGPU, your're probably giving up some performance because this PCI-e interface is very limited and the video card will have to send back the rendered image through it.
@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew When someone truely enjoys the work they do, it shows in the quality of the content they produce. You are one of those creator's. You've found your niche in saving older PCs and Laptops that others have written off. Keep it up Andrew. I always enjoy seeing you pop up on my feed.
9:14 9000 series 👀 he knows something we don't
thanks a lot man my laptop has two wifi card slots and i always dreamed of it, i want to put a video card and thanks to you i found a wifi card converter
Great content as always! Keep it up! Hope your going to do another alienware laptop video in the future.
i love your video and you are my inspiration Sir to work as a Computer Service Person and laptop i watch your video very clearly and watch each and every part.. thank you so much sir
damn what a slog fest that had to be andrew. i have been given quite a few laptops that are saved from the scrap bin and have been working on them for the last 2 weeks. i understand about it being time consuming for sure! still wish i could see more of your videos come out more frequestly, but i truly understand the time it takes for this.......keep up the good work sir!
Thank you for the support bro, I will try doing more videos plus to expand the channel with different content about computers and tech. Also sometimes is hard to find something to fix and restore something that is really damaged, I want to make real restoration not something fake with mud or some makeup
i agree as there is way to many of those already out there. i know you will find what you need to put your amazing talents to use my friend!
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrewHi Andrew, your tech videos are fantastic! I'm curious if you could make a video on upgrading a Dell Latitude 3150 to Windows 11 and possibly changing the CPU. It would be really helpful for those looking to enhance their devices. Keep up the great work! 👍
Amazing job. It's a great project and I would like to do something like this. So far instead I did half way projects.
Some new thing I discover watching a similar video is that you can make a extra usb port from the connection that goes to the web camera since it use USB you can do a connection port in between and also connect the camera or don't.
Honestly I think that 388k followers are too little for you channel...good work mate...keep up!
I will bro :) thank you for the support
great video, thanks for sharing, regards from Miami, FL, USA,
Excellent video Andrew! You inspired me to search for compatible components and do the same. Also, what microphone do you use?
One of the great pleasures of this site is seeing how meticulous Andrew is and how he cleans everything. This might not seem much but professional repairers will tell you that various sorts of muck cause component failure and that makes perfect sense given the physics of electricity. 'Clean' is not the same as just looking clean and fairly battered externals in long used professional computers often conceal well maintained insides. This is especially the case in schools, banks, offices and centers of administration and the key point is that such contexts employ maintenance contractors.
Dirt also creates heat and heat and this is an enemy of effective use of electronics and longevity of components. The ultra-slim fad also is a big enemy because cooling air must not just circulate but be in a quantity sufficient to expel hot air and draw in cool air. FLIR photographs show hot spots on all sorts of computers (not just laptops) and we would not drive a vehicle which did not specifically cool components and just relied of general cooling, so why do we accept a generalist approach in our IT machines? The answer is because designers too frequently put style over substance and are lazy. Some strip I/Os to the bone and others try to reduce heat by fitting weak and weedy processors (boasted to be eco-friendly) but they pair these with very large capacity spinning hard drives and current-limited RAM so such machines appear brisk when new but very soon fill up with fragmented trash and become woefully slow, especially as OS sellers give little or no advice on how to avoid and dump bloat. Instead these machines have trial copies of management systems like Norton and McAfee. HP and cheaper end Dells do this. Apple simply failed to tackle much and heat for years and did not seem to realize that I/O ports actually assist with venting if not overloaded. Enter the hub and daisy chaining -- which are never shown in adverts. Apple is making slightly thicker laptops now and Lenovo and Dell are being less obsessed with slimness. A slow increase in I/Os is happening but it is very slow and SD card readers are still missing from far too many brands -- including the Acer which Andrew features here. It is a pity that Acer's 2023 range is inconsistent in this because the brand is known for good, honest value without pretension ranging to some high end machines of better functional flexibility than the Big Boys, who often make overlapping models simultaneously, which vary in different parts of the world.
Making a well functioning machine from a few 'dead' ones is certainly time consuming but the result can often be an old laptop re-vamped to perform well beyond original spec even though such as Windows 11 will not recognize "security" requirements and some companies "white list" components. This is active sabotage of people's property and if companies have this sort of power to remotely inspect a given machine, what other things do they inspect?
Adapted machines and avoidance of the tyranny of Microsoft, Mac and Android etc etc seem to beckon us to a more secure future with different operating systems waiting to be developed and they will compete in a different environment/time frame from the ageing giants.
reminds me of the old school thinkpads (t420 t430 generation) where you can basically cobble together keyboards, touchpads and cpu across different generations to create your very own franken-thinkpad
i remember there's also an eGPU mod that you can basically piggyback off the expresscard slot and get pci-e speeds
Not bad at all! Personally if you're going to go for a new keyboard, you might as well buy a new bezel to replace that broken one. A new bezel only costs about £10 or so for most laptops, especially older ones.
This really makes me want to start upgrading and repairing PCs again. That screwdriver set looks nice, I might buy one for portable/travel use where I can't fit my Ifixit Manta set into my bag.
Also, yes I always keep older components as well, just in case - such as RAM, hard disks/SSDs, wireless modules, etc.
Also, for me, it's not worth going down the eGPU route. If you have to remove the Wi-Fi card then it no longer becomes a portable machine because external Wi-Fi dongles (albeit better than most older inbuilt cards) are fragile and susceptible to breaking (or the ports being snapped) if moved around a lot.
nice video ANDREW
nice video for ombine both laptop part to woking
Good job!👌
Would love to see you fix, repair, & upgrade a hp pro book 4530s laptop

It's like this laptop was cursed and needed an exorcism! 😁 Great work as always !!!
Little cursed :D but I have few others that I really think that are cursed :D I have one ASUS G70 with dual GPU, the first Notebook with dual GPU, theoretically the hardware is alive but won't start, I start with repairs in November 2021 :D also I have few other rare laptops with similar problems :D

Haha I still have my v3-571g from 2012! i7 3610qm, 6gb ram and gt640m.
I have played so much battlefield 3 on that laptop.
I have since upgraded to a desktop and now a new laptop but I still use the aspire for work things!
Planned obsolescence : Am I joke to you!!?
A little patience. LoL, you have tons of patience!
The perfect example of "One man's trash is another mans treasure."
i hope you can have project with small board computer,, like latte panda or raspberry pi,, which your style,, maybe it will be unique.. i hope you can make another experiment.. maybe make portable console uing by latte panda
Please make a video on driver and how you install drivers
New video is here!!
the way he pronounced RAAAAAAAAM
Laptop EGPU support via m.2 must be related to which internal gpu is connected to the display. I assume that if the internal panel is connected to an intel or amd intregrated gpu an external GPU can output to the internal display. This is similar to how dedicated nvidia gpus in laptops merely process the graphics and it passes it back to typically an intel igpu to display into the display. If the main display is directly connected to the main display, the external gpu might not be able to pass the video back to the other dedicated internal GPU.
Also, I personally wouldn't go with an eGPU if you have to remove the Wi-Fi card. However, some devices have eSATA connections or similar, meaning you can connect directly to an eGPU without having to remove the wireless card.
eSata is not PCIe and will never support any GPU, it's only for storage devices. You must be thinking of an mini pcie or the external express something.@@TheSpotify95
How know if i can use the laptop screen with a video card?
Good video.
Bağlantıdan önce ve sonra bir oyunda fps değerlerini de göstermeniz güzel olurdu.
What is that spray you use after the glue in bezel?
Do you know anything about hp pavillion gaming series support or not?
Very informative video , i want to ask that what connector will be best for my hp probook 450 g5 its and 8th gen i5 machine 8520u with 16 gigs of ram. As i want to install an e gpu the gpu i want to connect is rx 580. One last question the connector will be connected in m2 slot or there is another option in this laptop bcz i want to use this m2 ssd
Nice video dude
BTW What's the name of the game, anyone
Nice project, but I miss the song you did in the past videos.
I will add in next videos bro
Huh, I never saw an i7-3632QM in a pin package like that before. I thought they were all soldered BGA parts.
should have place the gpu on the left side. Was getting worried you might bump into it and it fall down
Acer has 2 on e1 laptop, e1-531g and e1-571g
the game you play the end of video .whats that game name ?
andrew have you fix a fujitsu laptop ? mine died after upgrading to windows 10 (from 7). the display was black and if I delete the graphic driver and went to safe mode, it's good again. but later windows update or whatever makes it download latest graphic driver that will make the screen black
This is crazy .l aiso have an aod laptop I willt try to make somethig out of it.

Great video!! Im just 14 and You realy inspired me in restoring laptops, i have a Toshiba Satellite L500-202 which was kept in my dads closet for probably more than 4 years, it had 2GB of Ram, a dead HDD, and an intel pentium (R) T4400. I disassembled the laptop, clean the motherboard, repasted the cpu, added carbon fiber vinyl wrap on the case, installed kingston 128GB SSD, and upgraded to 4 gb of RAM. My future upgrades I am going to make is upgrade to 8GB RAM, install an eGPU through mini pcie. I bought a power supply for cheap and I have the msi 1070, the gdc dock is still on the way(taking around15 days to get delivered). One thing Im confused is the compability of the eGPU.
Keeping all that stuff aside, you have inspired me alot into doing this!!
Tons of Thanks!
i wish in my city has somekind of place that i can find a broken laptop to restore too=
Hey andrew how do you know if the cpu is compatible
I miss the old acer being reliable brand
Are u sure that h70 chipset of this laptop's motherboard is processor limited, coz i have the same laptop with same b960 cpu. And many in forums they say that this chipset is not supported with core i series cpu, we wil get 30min time limit anyway
Hello ... I need help with my Fujitsu A574 and Rx 470.... After I followed the guide I got black screen after turning on the laptop
Hello, can you give information about the charger you used for the e-GPU adapter you use? I guess it is not included in the product in the link?
Hi, the model is Dell DA-2
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew thank u. Will it work if I plug an adapter with the same values into the round input next to the 8 pin power input? Is there any difference?
Want to ask you about moldy lcd, is moldy lcd can be fix? Or the only option is the replace with the new one
Mine is moldy and many dust inside the lcd acreen
