    • @imnash8711
      @imnash8711 Před 6 lety

      Kirill English-hot-dog Just a question
      we can't use "handsome" for a woman?
      Say, in a play in an all-girls school, a play of Romeo & Juliet. Of course, to give the "Romeo" vibe the most "handsome" girl would be chosen for the role wouldn't it?
      But if the adjective "handsome" can't be used to describe a female, then how should we describe the girl fit for the role?
      Charismatic? Sharp? Cool? Manly? Athletic?
      Does any word give us the sense "handsome" gives?
      Im still a beginner in English so if you can shed some light on this issue it would help a lot :D

    • @wellwell7429
      @wellwell7429 Před 6 lety +1

      it's me The word "handsome" can be used to describe a female, but it's more appropriate for an older lady (like over forties) who is elegant, well-groomed and has inner strength showing in her appearance (she has strong, prominent and symmetrical facial features). It may be insulting though, because some females don't want to be thought of as handsome, they'd rather want to be thought of as beautiful, pretty or just good-looking. Anyway, it shouldn't be said directly to a woman's face, use "handsome" only for describing someone and be cautious.
      A young girl fit to play Romeo's role should be described as boyish (referring to the body type) and good-looking/attractive, maybe with stronger (more masculine) facial features. I think it could be offensive to call her manly.
