- I hike up into the hills of the Isle of Man to photograph a stunning sunrise over one of my favourite set of ruins on the entire island. It feels good to be back out vlogging my landscape photography again. Thanks for watching and take care.

Photo with the sun in the scene gets my vote.
Stunning, yes the photography gods are on your side, well done 👏
The Panorama is great James. It conjures an absolute sense of drama, isolation and history. Thanks for the content you bring.
Thank you, James, I needed this 15 minutes of sheer pleasure, enjoyed it immensely! I differ to you in that the pano shot was equally good in colour and black and white. The sunrise shot was a remarkable knockout job by you. All that planning came to fruition. Also great knowledge of your locality. Looks forward to the next one very much. Keep well and safe!
Welcome back James, we’ve missed you. Great video and photos.
Great video James, very enjoyable and congratulations on some lovey images. Personally I prefer the pre dawn shot, gorgeous balance and colour.
Absolutely love them all, the sun star and the B&W I think take 1 and 2 in my preference. What a stunning place to ba able to get to. Well worth the trip for sure. Look forward to seeing more of your trips and photos soon.
Beautiful images & very inspiring video. Well done. Glad you’re back.
Cheers Joel
I'd put both shots on my wall any day 👏👏👏👏
Wow, good to see you back out. Excellent video and images. Thanks
This video reminds me why I still shoot film. When I'm done shooting 6x17 chromes of a sunrise..I'm done. I pack up and go have breakfast. No post production, no hours of sitting in front of a damn computer screen. Just a wonderful viewing of huge chromes on a light table. I don't bracket, I don't stitch. Simple and elegant workflow.
Welcome back! All 3 shots worked really well...probably preferred the sunburst if pushed to choose.
Great to see you are back. I really missed seeing your videos. I prefer the shot with the lit up clouds shot before sunrise.
Welcome back brilliant to see your videos again James
Good day James, welcome back!! Love the video, the images are spectacular, I especially like the B&W pano. I learn a lot from your videos, thank you and I hope we see you soon! Bill
Great video, I prefer the colours in the pre sunrise photo.
First time watching your channel, great stuff. Beautiful images 👍🏻
Excellent video, James. The creation of all the images is top-notched. Although the pre-sunrise and the sunrise with the starburst are fantastic, I prefer the pre-sunrise image. I also agree with your assessment that the B&W pano is outstanding. I like that one the most out of all the photos.
I’m glad you are back. I enjoy you photos and video logs. Actual sunrise by a slight margin.
Welcome back. Great images..
Awesome to see this notification james, good to see ya back 😀
HEEEEYYYY Welcome Back James!!!!
Good to have you back James . Always look forward to your videos and I was not left disappointed exellent sunrise photo you had there, your so lucky to live where you do.. atb joe
Welcome back James for me it’s the shot before the sun rises but your photography is amazing, Thank You for sharing👍
I am a sucker for sunburst, but moody clouds are great also. Tempting to blend them, but to pick one, then sunburst it is.
Welcome back James. Love all 3 photos, especially the pano. Definitely the shot with the sun rays is the best of the two but only by the smallest margin. Please please not as long between vlogs again. Some of us get real inspiration from the simplicity of your content.
Thank you John - much appreciated! Hopefully its not another 8 months until the next one 😂
Fantastic to see you back James, love your work & will look forward to your next outing...🙂👍
Great to see you back!
Hi James brilliant to have you back. 3 epic shots love the sunrise best with the sunstars. Hopefully we won't have wait too long for your next video especially with beautiful autumn colours in the next couple
Of weeks .cheers James 😊👍
As if you never been away James. Loved the sun-shot. Thnx.
Haven’t lost your touch, James, nor your mastery of IOM - made all the difference. Outdoors audio not as clear as it should have been. First of two images my fav for sun stars (not over-done). Hope all is well - nice to see you still have that red jacket😊. Oh yes, in case you could use a side gig, I hear there’s an opening for job of British Finance Minister😂. Cheers!
Thanks Paul. Not much has changed with my photography setup in the 8 month break, so you'll see all my usual kit like the bright jacket, wellies and hats are all as they were years ago. I look older but everything else is stuck in a timewarp 😂
Many thanks James it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. It has been a while since your last one.
Take care and look forward to perhaps seeing some more from the Isle of Man👍👍
Great to see you back.
Great images James nice to have you back😀
Me and my lad like the pre dawn shot .Agree with you about the pano B/w for us as well.
hey hey hey look who finally showed up haha. nice to see you back again. i hope you are well.
Was beginning to think you'd given up. Emerging from Covid lots of people have struggled to get a life/work balance re-established. Glad to see you back.
I'd go for the pre-dawn just because its the more unusual shot. Yep, the colour pano is pretty flat. You're not the first to rescue the situation with a contrasty b&w conversion 😉
Thanks Iain - appreciate the feedback. I'll never be a weekly uploader again, so don't expect regular videos. However If I could get something done monthly i'd be happy. Just about finding the right balance. One day I'll find the right formula for it
Good to see you back, James! Love the sunrise shot and the b&w pano, very nice indeed. Looking forward to seeing you on PO Live this Sunday.
Good to see you back James. Both dawn shots are excellent and its hard to separate them. As for the pre sun rise I might have been inclined to lighten the building a tad but not to detract from those special clouds. But yes the star burst has my vote.ooking forward to your next, whenever.
HI James - good to see you and your photography back.
For me the monochrome photograph is the better of the panoramas. My preference (and I am only an amateur) is that of the pre-sunrise because the eye travels along the under-layer of the clouds (which are beautifully lit). It leads you to the ruin and completes the picture just perfectly. Don't know where your other choices had been for that morning but you sure made the right one!
James missed your videos, so I am happy your back. My favorite is the one with sun (star) peaking above the clouds. As always awesome photos. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Cesar - I've missed the videos, hopefully won't be too long until the next
Welcome Back James. Final result it's great and you also improved your vlog too. Seeing the entire video i was very curious about the history of that ruined house and of the people who lived , there. Just tried to imagine the beauty and desolation of that place with life, ages ago. Catch you soon
I literally was thinking about emailing you James to ask if you were okay and still at it. So glad to get my fix of "Isle of Man" again. The b/w works over the RGB because of the changes in luminance and one wonders if working that into the full color version would make it more palatable to you. Just wondered. The sunrises work so well because as you presented them, as a YT diptych, and they work beautifully that way. However, I also wondered if there were earlier images of just a touch of light coming over the hill whereby you could execute a triptych of sunrises (sort of like the opening to R. Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra, Invocation to the Dawn). Either way to me, even though both images work as a stand alone image, as a pair the sum is greater than the whole, and if you could find a triptych in your archive from the morning, even more. Again, you made my day here in Texas by sharing your eyes once again. Thank you from an old man who doesn't see the sun come up except through a window. BTW, the image from the video (early) of the approaching sunrise with the ruin AND the photographer in silhouette is a very nice image as well.
Thanks James - good to hear from you! Your Triptych suggestion is a very strong one. I probably do have some other frames that I could look at to flesh out a story across multiple images. I'll take a look across the shots of the morning to see if any fit the bill. Sorry for the absence of my videos, life has just got in the way recently. I'll hopefully have something else in the coming weeks 🙂 Take care
@@JamesBrewphoto Very good James
The sunrise shot, I would personally like it better if the foreground was darker. Just all silhouettes. But that's a matter of personal taste!
The pano scene, I do think I like the colour version better than the B&W actually, but it looks good in both versions!
Oh and in all that rush to get to the location on time you did have time to set up the camera at the other end of the puddle, walk back, cross the puddles on the path again while filming, and collect the camera. Just saying that b/c it always amazes me how much invisible work there must be in shooting all these videos! 😁
Thanks Tim - yes CZcams miles are probably x1.2 more in distance due to all the backward and forwards for b roll shots. Appreciate the feedback 🙂
Glad you are back James, super video. I prefer the pre dawn shot, of course, that is not to say there is anything wrong with the sunrise shot. Regards Edward
Great video James, thank you. I know where you're coming from, that panorama is stunning. I think there's another ruin further up that valley towards Snaefell. I always feel it's one of the remotest parts of our little island. All great images but my fave is the pre-sunrise shot.
Love the sunrise shot and the black and white pano. Great to have you back James. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris 🙂
James, both your images are just stunning. Many of us a jealous of your skill in taking these shots. Certainly shows the benefit of advance planning.
Thank you Brian - that is very kind of you to say
Gorgeous photo James. Wish I had known about the exposure bracketing recently. I was shooting towards sunrise, got beautiful colour but sun was blown out. Love Z7II. Thanks for the video
I like the sunless version more there is more colour
Welcome back and hope to see more vlogs from you again from now on! As for the preferred shot: sunrise looks a it more spectacular than the pre-sunrise...
Good to see you back! My favorite was the pre-sunrise shot 😀
Great to have you back James! 😁 shots are spectacular. What a phenomenal morning. I preferred the pre-sunrise shot a bit more.
Great to have you back on the screen James and long overdue, but great to hear from you again. Both images are cracking and the pano but if I had to choose it’s pre sunrise as you captured great cloud texture which flattens with the sun star. As I said mate all brilliant and no filters even better, photography at its purist. Looking forward to seeing more📸🇬🇧👍👍👏👏👏👏🤓
Thank you Chris - appreciate the kind words 🙂
Stunning images James and great to have you back again. Preference would be for the sun rise image as it does provide for a better balance but both are very good. look forward to seeing more.
I like the pre-dawn shot. For me it is the not just the colour, it is the way the pre-dawn image hints that the dawn is nearly there, so there is the additional element to the story telling. I think of it as the promise of a new day to come. I like the sunrise shot but not as much and the pre-dawn shot. I think (?) the way the clouds light up the scene in the pre-dawn shot also makes the colours on the ruins look slightly warmer.
Thanks for the feedback 🙂
of these two, I like the sunrise with the sun element , but the BW image with the sun behind you I thought was your strongest for me
Nice to see you back James, I personally think both are great since can't help you on opinion . Honestly both are beautiful images. Keep up the good work. 👍
They're both incredible shots, its a toss up, but I like the sunrise better if I had to choose only one.
Cool James, pre sunrise for me, good to see you are still alive ;)
Thanks! Still alive thankfully 😂
Woohoo! Welcome back, James! Lovely to see your videos again… As to the images, all are excellent. The pre-dawn shot has lovely colour and balance, whereas the dawn shot has the extra of the sun starburst as a point of interest. The pano shot is definitely better in mono and has so much atmosphere, much more than the colour option. Be great to see you more often, but only if this fits in with you. 👏👏👏
Thanks John - great to be back!
The Wellies are back. ;)
I am always partial to the Sun rays and it is beautiful but the simplicity of the panorama and that it is black and white is just stunning. Looking forward to more.
Thanks Kimberly - appreciate the feedback :-)
Sunrise but I love the location. You need to do a workshop or travel photo trip to isle of sky.
Brilliant to see a new video mate.
I'm torn between rhe 2 images. Both have there qualities. Love the pano too.
Thanks Craig! And thanks for telling the spammer where to go 😂
@@JamesBrewphoto no worries mate. 👍🏻
Was just thinking a few days ago, that it's been a while since we've seen you. Hope all is well. Good to see you again.
Great sunrise. I was wondering what the pre-sunrise would look like with the ruin in full silhouette? Love your videos!
Great shots James. All of them. I really like the black and white one personally. There’s something magical about sunrises. My wife just doesn’t get it. She’ll say “why don’t you go out during the day when there more light?” I’m like. It’s all about the colour! And besides early mornings in the wild are sublime. My draw is mainly the pastel colours that can be thrown up. Think this is the first video you’ve done since I found your channel :)
Thanks for watching - hopefully I'll have some more videos soon 🙂
@@JamesBrewphoto looking forward to that :)
Sure nice to see you back on You Tube! I prefer the pre-dawn photo as there is a hint of 'alien' world which adds interest. Love the B&W pano. Might there be a time in the late fall or winter when the sun could be framed with the second storey window?
Thanks Keith - yes that probably would be possible with good timing. Might have to give it a go one day 🙂
I'll never worry about a wobbly tripod again 🙂
Great Photos James. Hard to pick out the best as the pre sunrise and sunrise photos are both lovely. I was wondering where you focused to get it sharp front to back. Did you focus stack?
I like both James
I'm SITTING, not SAT.
Great to see you back James and with some gorgeous shots too. I think I preferred the sunrise shot but loved them all.
Thanks for watching :)
