- Hey everyone back with Trailmakers! Today we are competing in another evolution challenge except this time we are learning to fly! In this challenge we're going to see who can evolve into the best glider vehicle with limited build time each round! Survival of the fittest will win once again as only the winning creation moves onto each new round!

Mabye you could do evolution everything you start as a car go to a glider then a boat / sub but you can't delete parts

I think that would defeat the point of gliding cars and would be more like the transforming gliders challenge they made...
Actually that would have been smol brain because more weight in Trailmakers = more mass = more speed and less loss through the air. Go look at the glider challenge when kosmo had the lightest glider and that performed the worst.

@@Donke267 the thing is, they would need so much more time, as usual quick builds take around 20-30 minutes. But if they don't mind, then yeah they should try it!

He was so close to using them to angle the wings to add or reduce pitch I didn't think he'd try a flapping technique.
If he woulda used them on the back of the wings and attached an apparatus to them, he woulda had a LOT of controllable lift.
Or if he turned them so the wings folded back, so he could adjust the centre of lift.
funny thing is i was thinking that same thing on makin the wings vertical for takeoff from the beginning. lol. also this series is epic.
evo hovercrafts would be awesome to see.
What would the challange be? Like what test would they need to do to prove they are better? Speed? Control? Distance?
I personally was thinking VS bumper carts. Where they start out at 10, 15 parts max and add 10 max every evolution. Maybe making them be hovering could be a nice bonus. Winner of each round would be last one hovering.
the vertical wings would have worked, if you also had canards to keep from bottoming out, and better pitch control.

@@Timicro16 Define "control" and how do you measure that.
You measure speed by using increments of time (fastest lap), you measure distance by number of "units" away something is from your starting position. With the bumper cart idea, the measurement is on time and on a true/false state. "Is the cart still hovering? True" "is the cart still hovering? False: Time hovering = xx:xx:xx" person with the longest time wins.
So again, how do you measure control. Because you can't judge who wins if you don't have a weay to measure it. You can't have a new evolution without a winner of the previous evolution. So what are we thinking here? A race? An obstacle course? Help me understand here >.<
One thing I want to point out, I am pretty sure there are floating pieces in this game.
Helicopter. Helicopter evolution. They don't do enough helicopters.

Shooting eachother out of the sky. But how do they update them per evolutionary phase?
@@Hadeks_Marow Problem is, you've got like 8 buttons you need to keep track of. A plane has four, (up down left right since rolling is steering) while a heli has 8 (up and down height, up down pitch, left right heading and left right roll).
So it's really hard to stay upright unless your roll doesn't change at all, otherwise you'll end up drifting on one of them and then crashing.
@@elliotlea5457 Yeah, that's why my personal pick would be something more simple. Like Bumper Cart VS evolve. Every evolution increases the maximum amount of parts you are allowed to use. The cart has to hover and if you can no longer move/hover, then your out. Last one standing is the one that wins the round. Start off with like a max of 10 to 15 pieces and move up like 10 max pieces every round or something like that. Something simple like that. i just think they need to do SOME kind of battle evolve episode. So much of it has just been highscore challenges. "fastest lap" "farthest distance", nothing really head to head that couldn't have been done solo/separately.

Except, instead of cores, you upgrade maximum amount of parts you are allowed to use. Start at like 10, 15 parts, and increase by 10 every evolution?
considering that it almost happened this round you should think of a rule that says that
"if you can't beat the previous round then everyone lost"
or something to that effect

It's not that you had too many wings, it's that seat controls for pitch are backwards so your glider was actively pulling up while you were accelerating. Remapping engine controls to something other than w-s would have made all the difference.

kAN's last build is technically an ornithopter. So if this were a real competition it would be disqualified.

New to the channel. You guys could evolve the glider evolve series; Do the glider evolve like normal. After X amount of wins the winner takes the best glider and continues to try and reach the best distance while the other players then evolve anti air vehicles to shoot it out of the sky, the anti air vehicle that takes out the glider first is the evolution base

Don't worry Kan, even the animal kingdom had some evolutionary failures. Just take a look at the "Dumbo Octopus", it's an octopus with "ears".

I'm guessing you can't make a delta wing design kinda like an F-14 tomcat? Would probably make it less top heavy off the ramp.

Kan your flying vehicles always seem to have good enough lift to weight ratios but never enough length to control it. I’d like to see you putting pistons in the middle of your bricks to make them stretch out

instead of making it flap, you should have made the wings go horizontal. the more the wings arc back means less lift but more speed.

I wonder if running each vehicle simultaneously in batches of 3 (one for each player) to simulate a "population size" would work better for evolution.
The only way I see you evolving this style of mode lol, is to everybody keeps they're own vehicle, and evolve the own creation
past tense of glide is either glided or glid, you can use either
If you gave the flapper a huge wingspan and a pitching tail it would be OP

I noticed there is a structure in the background that is black and a lot taller and I think you might go further if you started from there.

You should try evolution but you ain't allowed to delete anything. You can split and move, but not place anywhere else on the creation.
friendly advice: put smaller wings in further in the back, it helps balance the lift from the wings in the front, trust me I'm a trailmakers player (you won't find any on my channel)

U guys should do a community workshop episode on scrap mechanic functioning computer parts (memory, addition, multiplication circuits, etc.)
make an evolution of birds challenge. An aerial race where all lift and speed must come from working wings that flap. Wheels are aloud to start because I don’t think walkers would work very well.
Do this again but make it a glide car race or do a flappy bird version where everyone has to do what kan did with the wings lol

Pretty sure you're pitching the tail in the wrong direction when trying to take off... You're giving yourself excess lift and losing traction before leaving the ramp.

Hey kAN I don't think you will see this but I hope you do, also everyone please like so kAN has a higher chance of seeing this. But to the point, you did a live stream some time in fall last year and I asked you if I should make an escape room and you said sure, I totally forgot about it for almost half a year until I started scrap mechanic and remembered again, today I did a little bit of building and wondered if I should decide to work full time into making this and pumping it out for you and the team please let me know by just pinning or commenting I guess I will also put this in the discord so you could also dm me if you wish, if this doesn't really matter just say so and I'll know to just go at a normal pace.
