The Rolling Stones - Hillside Blues (I Don't Know The Reason Why) with Mick Taylor, unreleased

  • In 1969, with a new Mick Taylor on board, the Stones recorded Hillside Blues (aka I Don't Know the Reason Why). To date it has never been released (don't know the reason why?!) . It might be overlong, but is still a showpiece of Mick Taylor's blues work. Keith weaves in well with him and Jagger is in cruisy form. Recorded at Elektra Studios, Los Angeles, October 1969, Vocal: Mick Jagger Weaving Guitars: Mick Taylor (main) & Keith Richards Bass: Bill Wyman Drums: Charlie Watts Sax: Bobby Keys

      The Stones were bigger than all those bands before Taylor walked in. They made their biggest come back and their most powerful sound to date during Beggars Banquet with Jumping jack flash, Street Fighting Man, Sympathy fro The Devil etc.. They were a rocket ship blasting off when Brian Jones was vanishing and before Mick Taylor came in. The Stones would have been great with anyone. Did you know that Clapton almost joined as did Jeff Beck, Ry cooder, Wayne Perkins. Mick Taylor did great work but got the job because he fit in as a great gun for hire as a soloist and not a big star. Clapton, Beck, and Ry Cooder were all too big to squeeze in the Stones who were full up with creative stars and big egos like Jagger/Richards. There was no room for more. Mick Taylor was the unknown Eric Clapton or Santana but still who worked within the framework of Jagger/Richards. They were always the Stones creative force. Always.

      @@Viajealduendebut he gave the licks that Ronnie wood can’t. The stones were gutted and a bit bitter when he left cause they knew how good he was and what he bought to the band, he turned them into the blues band they so desperately wanted to be, didn’t write many floor fillers after he left and always play the ones he contributed on through his short stint with them, that just shows how good he was, he is the stones sound during the 70s…..best era by far. Ronnie wood is the luckiest guitar player ever, he just plays Mick Taylor’s part, just not as good.

    • @Viajealduende
      @Viajealduende Před 8 měsíci

      @@Guitarpeacepic Taylor was very good and yes the best lead guitar player in the Stones, a respectable resemblance of Clapton and Santana, but Keith’s the most distinguished Stones guitar player with solos like Sympathy for the devil and his fantastic opening riffs and rhythm guitar on songs like Street Fighting Man, Monkey Man, or simple folk blues playing on Prodigal Son. Keith may not be as complex a solo player but he’s very original and distinguished. Like John Lee Hooker is very distinguished. Balls to the wall, knocking the doors down, Keith is Keith! Especially the opening of Can’t you hear me knocking which I think is more distinguished than Taylor’s solo, a homage to Paul Butterfield’s East West. Bobby Keys is the true soloist on that track with a decent supporting solo from Taylor. It’s Keith that was always the significant sound of the Stones, even very early on with Route 66, Around and Around, the lead guitar on Down the road Apiece etc… Mick Taylor like Brian made great ornament contributions. However you and many others exaggerate by saying things like Mick Taylor “turned the Stones into the blues band they SO DESPERATELY wanted to be.” That’s simply bullshit. The Stones did very well being a blues band with Brian 6 years before Mick Taylor arrived. Taylor updated the Stones, sort of. He was great at doing the long jam of the late 60’s and early 70’s but that sort of a thing that became outdated at least on record. The long noodling guitar solos. Mick Taylor was a fantastic noodler, but that got old and boring. The jamming solos are good live for one song, if done with conviction, not long meandering noodling with no air between the notes. He was getting burnt out so he left. His last great solo in his recording career he left with the Stones. Ron Wood’s playing doesn’t stand out as much but he plays off of keith very well and does bring in a very cool funky vibe and good solos at times other times not so much. He could muck it up. That’s permissible up to a point with the Stones.

    This unreleased track falls right into that classic groovy genera with their friends Hendrix Experience, Cream and Johnny Winter. How music like this do you Super Cats have buried in the vault. Buried treasure man, dig up, clean them up and now we have, ( shiver mi timbers ) Artificial Intelligence. I see where these geniuses could find a super Hip and Groovy new album with Outtakes and stuff like this. Blessed Love from Woodstock nation 👉 Straight ahead,☮️❤️🎼🎶🎶🎶🌟🎵🎇😎

    Take you're pick of any guitar giants from the late sixties: Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Green or Page. Mick Taylor's guitar playing on this song stands right alongside ANY of those guys and arguably even trancends some of them as well!

    Just like your late great friend Jimi would say, " pull all the stops man, turn over the tables, embrace AI and rehash buried treasure like this number. Come back hard with an extra terrestrial new album and blow their minds. Also a brand new classic psychedelic album cover by Ronnie. Old bluesy, new music in this groove and beyond with AI. Message from Woodstock nation, the High ground of classic rock n roll. Straight ahead man👉🎵🎵🎶🎼🎶🎶☮️❤️🐎🐎🐎🐎
