- I made a reservation for a Fisker Ocean last autumn and have now come to a conclusion if I will place the order or keep my BMW iX1. I explain my thoughts about my decision in this video.

Thank you for sharing your insights on the Fisker Ocean. I loved the design but I had the same concerns re quality, delivery, support & viability of the company. Bought an iX3 which I’m very happy with

Actually they reported today that they will start deliveries in Europe 5th of may….but still strange there are no reviews….
i think the Ocean should be compared to a least the X3, same width as the IX. I would also be a little nervous about the first model and first generation of a new brand. Big plus is production be someone who have been building cars for some time instead of building them in own factory.

There is another factor that is quite important and it is the reselling value and easiness. I am not sure if one can resell fisker with a reasonable price in a reasonable time.
I am also not happy with my ix1 headrest comfort. Good that I am not the only one
If I want to buy an EV now, I would go with Tesla Y long range
The resell value is actually really bad for most EV:s today because of the rapid development and all new models that gets presented.
you did well to cancel the Fisker, I finally bought a 2019 Jaguar i-Pace second hand, paying 35% of the 2019 price 6 months ago. Delighted with it - I knows it charges a bit slow for long trip but prices was alluring as there are too many cars coming from lease for the market to absorb, leading to a steep drop the last year and half.
I am not surprised…there were too many things that seamed suspicious both with the car and answers from Henrik himself…
Excellent video, thank you. I have been having exactly the same thoughts. The Fisker looked very attractive to me with some great looking features but my conclusion was exactly the same as yours. The dealership & BMW establishment in the market won the day. My iX1 is due for delivery June/July. However, I have one issue with BMW HQ. In January they announced, just 2 months after first deliveries of X1/iX1 that the model would be fitted with a new Head Unit and the changed android based OS9 system in Q2 after a test phase in the UK. So that is why I got my delivery planned for then. Then in March, BMW announced new Head Unit and roll out was November. I have written to BMW three times asking if November is now firm and if I could delay delivery until new Head Unit is being built in. Three times they have refused to give me any answer, the last one last week as good as said "F*** O**"! I only wanted a Yes or No. If No, then fine, I could make a decision to go ahead or not. Very sad that their customer service at HQ is acting this way.
To rub salt in the wound, BMW showed off the OS9 system fitted to the Chinese market cars at the Shanghai Show last week!
Let’s first see if you really want OS9. For me OS7 is still better than 8 😊
@@swede-365 I think all the X1s delivered with old Head Unit will get the apparently improved OS8.5. My 'fear' was having a brand-new car that within days lost €thousands in value, although I do intend to keep it for my (68), or its, life! If I was simply leasing for 2-4 years, it wouldn't worry me at all.
I agree with all the points you made, I would add two things I do not like : the lack of an HUD and these numerous windows & roof opening I could not care less about, seems cool but in practice I know I would personally not use them AND I would worry about them being more potential troubles (reliability, not water tight…).
When the Kia EV6 came out I loved the design but I got tired of it by now. By contrast I never liked the Fisker.
Have you given a look at the Zeekr 001 ?
Zeekr 001 is one of many interesting alternatives, the competition will be very tough.
I prefer the “Arctic mode” that BMW and a lot of other cars have where all windows are closed and I get heating and cleaning on the rear window 😂

Polestar 3 is much bigger and more expensive so not really comparable. About Polestar 4 all details are not known yet. Also the delivery times are far away for both cars.
Well: I have been waiting, what is everyone thinking now that Fisker is delivering, I would like to hear from some of the owners before I make my purchase.

Tried BMW X1 with sport seats and realized that headrest angle is wrong and it could not be changed. Need to consider other brands, unless BMW fixes this problem. Good to see that I am not the only one who observed this problem.
Yes, the seats are unfortunately not good at all and makes me really consider change car.
It's Magna that is making the cars, an experienced manufacturer that has a record of making some special cars, models like Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jaguar models I-PACE and E-PACE, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW Z4 and the Toyota GR Supra. So, they have a good pedigree and are not going to ruin their reputation by making a dud car.
HF made a smart move to contract it out to Magna, instead of doing it all himself from scratch like he did the last time, and failed. He seems to have learned from that mistake.
Fisker has solid cash reserves too. Your quality etc concerns are unfounded as the car is in the hands of Magna. The trim levels and specs of top Ocean models are unmatched at that price. I think you got cold feet for no reason.

Read in the interview with the first owner that the car wont start if the seatbelts are not buckled,I bet that that has been thought of and scrapped by other manufacturers a long time ago.Imagine that breaking and no service to be found.
I think warning to fasten seatbelts in all other cars are ok and you shouldn’t make things more complicated than needed

Depends on your needs and what you value. The best is to try them both and make your own opinion.
go with the BMW...maybe its not the best overall, but solid. Every car has corners and edges.😏

I mean, BMW is a LOT more expensive, especially in the US. Not even close to as sustainable. I’ll continue with my Fisker order. You’re way-off on quality, I’ve sat in it. Literally the nicest quality interior I’ve ever seen. though I’m not familiar with the BMW you’re comparing it with, not wealthy enough to have ever seen the inside of that one… but yeah, if you have the additional 40-50k… can’t go too wrong with BMW! You all have a lot more affordable options too, in the US Fiskers closest competitors are Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt… Fisker is going to be undoubtedly popular here, Americans want the best range for the buck. Fisker wins. As far as the warranty, it’s covered by Magna even if they weren’t around, it’s in the terms (if you read them), that said Fisker isn’t going anywhere… I’m surprised to see how short sighted some are. Than again, some folks thought Apple was going to be done in the 90s… I think people with wealth, take for granted with the rest of us want… can’t forget all the yuppies trying to coerce people that Zune was going to take over, and Apple wouldn’t be around much longer. Lol

Please note that here in the UK, The Fisker Ocean One is the same price as the BMW ix1 - Both AWD with gadgets etc, no incentives in this country
@@xyredmax you’re comparing the highest trim of one, with the lowest of the other, though? Fisker stock also soared today on official announcement of deliveries!
If you watch my video you see that a fully loaded BMW iX1 and a Ocean Extreme with matte paint, 22 inch etc is almost exactly the same price in Sweden.
@@swede-365 I can confirm they are they same in the UK. Fisker Ocean one is 60,880 delivered and the ix1 is 62,250 delivered, the same trims and specs. In the USA and Canada, they get large tax breaks and grants, we do not

You managed to say all the things that I had concerns about when I decided to cancel my order for #286 Ocean One. So much time has passed that I think they will miss the interest they had when they first announced the car. All my senses are telling me that I did the right thing when I chose to lose $5000 rather than keep my order. I have always wished that they would succeed but they lost my trust when they did not reply to my questions.
You did not say whether you lost your deposit?
I got my deposit back and are happy with my decision

No, it was only a smaller pre booking fee. My car never went to order status.
They’ve now said Apple Car won’t be available, lane assist, cruise control and a number of other features until late 23 or 24 with software updates. My instincts are telling me Fisker won’t survive, which is a shame. The car looked good a few years ago when it was announced, but I just see an Evoque clone.
They have huge problems with software even for basic driving as I have heard…
I agree with everything you have said. I have owned and driven EV's for 10+ years. I have never experienced such poor customer relations as Fisker before. It took 12 months to find out that the car has no one pedal drive, the user interface electronics are 6+ years old, not cutting edge. There is no sliding blind for the glass roof. A lot of the new features will not be activated on the car for 12 months. At 60k, there are no incentives or grants in the UK, so there are a lot of other cars in this price range to challenge the FO1, and there are more to come this and next year. Nevertheless, this is still a stunning car if you are sold on looks alone - I am very fussy, although I like to call it practical. Best regards 😀
Indeed there are a lot of interesting alternatives now. If Fisker had kept their promises about time etc the chance for success had been way more possible.
@@swede-365 I agree. If only I could have seen and driven a car - Their PR and support is very poor and they have not let anyone drive a car to review unless they sign a non disclosure document. Remember, HF is a designer turned salesman, he is not an engineer
With this start I think we already have a good idea of how service, warranty and aftermarket will function…
i work for a Texas-based semiconductor manufacturer. We produce all airbag chips, as well as the majority of automotive chips. Our bottleneck is final processing in Taiwan, which will only get worse if China invades.
The Takata recall as well as Trumpy’s trade war with China, did a number on our ability to fulfill orders to customers and vendors, then came the pandemic.
Take a moment to think that Fisker is managing as a startup, with the limited supply available, or already spoke for by larger manufacturers. (Hence why no ventilated seats, and lacking a few common sensors.)
I still am rooting for Fisker. I really want them to succeed.
I morally cannot support Tesla, despite recognizing their recent technological advances in the Giga press, given the instability of Teslas owner.

Fisker has more power, but unnecessary. In its favor is autonomy. The materials and construction are worse, it does not have the BMW workshop network. Tesla is having a lot of problems, Fisker is a mystery. BMW is more solvent today.
