  • Here's my quick and honest review of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect. It's a flexible small minivan that works well for business and personal use - thanks to its many interior configuration options. I filmed this review while taking my daughter off to college GO Setters!

Removed my 3rd row seats today. 8 bolts, T50 Torx socket took them right out. Put the bolts back in after removing the seats so they don't get lost and also holds down the floor.

Nice review! I reserved a "minivan" on a vacation last year and they handed me the keys to a Ford Transit Connect. I didn't even know what it was and when I went to load up my family, I was initially disappointed and felt shortchanged (I said, "that's not a minivan!"). However, after driving it for a week, I was impressed. It had amazing visibility, tons of headroom, and good cargo space. I never used the third row and kept it folded, but the seats did seem flimsy. I agree with you regarding the seats not folding flat. Other negatives were that it was underpowered, but it actually handled quite well. It's very utilitarian, yet also very practical.

I think the Transit Connect is pretty cool. A lot of reviews complain about what it doesn't have. However, it does have a lot. You get a 5 or 7 passenger van/wagon like vehicle that gets decent mileage, has decent power, a bunch of safety technology that did not even exist a few years ago, almost power everything, (Except for power doors) ease of access and drives pretty good. And an affordable price. It cannot tow your 40 foot toy hauler full of atv's. So what. It's not supposed too. Short on all the spendy entertainment toys? That's what your phones and tablets are for. They are better media buys anyway. (See daughter in back with her hand held device and the camera your producing this video with.) In 4 years todays media systems will be so yesterday. It fits in parking stalls with room to open the doors. It fits in garages. Try that with your quad cab F-250 high boy 4x4. The one you drove was a loaded model with almost all the bells and whistles. A skylight with a motorized sun shade? That's not a penalty box at all. There are fancier cars and trucks, but these are plugging a big hole in the market left behind when minivans stopped being minivans and turned into 4500 plus pound 280 + horsepower behemoth tanks which outweigh and outsize the big full size v8 wagons and vans of the 1960's and 70's. Don't believe it? Park a new 2016 F-150 next to a 1990 F-150 and see the differences in size. Do the same with a Camry or Accord.

We bought a 2010 Transit Connect just in time to move our son into college -- and were so happy to have everything fit in just the one vehicle. Similar car-like drivability in that earlier model. Looking to buy a 2016 model now (Ford's having a big promotion this month).

    • @DOSBoxMom
      @DOSBoxMom Před 7 lety

He graduated from University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign in 3 1/2 years, and is now in his last semester of law school at SIU-Carbondale. His sister is now in her last semester at Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL. We've used our 2010 Transit Connect for all of their move-in/move-out days, and have loved being able to get all of their stuff in one vehicle. We were using the "build your vehicle" app on the Ford website to pick out which features are important to us in a Transit Connect, and plan to buy a new one (either 2016 or 2017) later this month. We'll hang on to the 2010 Transit Connect, though, because our son plans to join his dad's law practice, so there will be times when the 3 of us will need to be in 3 different places.

Certainly a better review than most, but I was surprised that you made no mention of how the acceleration, braking, and handling were affected by the "stuff" you hauled for your daughter. As a potential buyer I was hoping to hear about fuel economy when driven by an "average guy".
Not sure what I feel about the seat folding issue, but agree that Ford kind of missed an opportunity to incorporate a better/more space efficient design.

Saw another video after yours, yes, the 3rd row seats recline like you thought they might, and strangely they never showed the 3rd row folded. (Maybe too embarrassed to highlight the poor design?)
Oh, and in your video I noticed the 3rd row seats were on "runners" so you can get more kneeroom that your video shows you as having.
BTW, owner's manuals really need to be better written when they come to showing features. My Ford truck had a huge owner's manual, but still left owners unsure about how to operate some of the optional extras.

we had one of those in Canary Islands. it is a hell of a familiy car. with 2 lt diesel engine and turbo, it was be very fuel effective and go&go forever. much power and very good speed. we were happy: we could carry all of the diving equipment and whetever else you wanted to (for a 2 peers family). there was a single, simple problem in 4 years (a rubber tube for the air intake to the turbo). I am in Greenland now and bought a 4*4 Yeti due to conditions here but I would buy a F. Tourneo again as I move back to civlization. Best from Nuuk, Greenland.

It's been a very reliable car. Most reliable car I've owned actually. Have a bit over 77k on it now. It's a 2012 Hatchback with the DCT. On the highway I get 39 MPG. That's highway like road trips/interstate, not highway slowdown and speed up like a commute. Can fit quite a bit of stuff in back with the seats down. I've carried old antique dressers in back and with the passenger seat pushed forward, had a 7 foot ladder in there. Just wish they would offer the wagon version (Called the Estate in Europe) here in the U.S.

I actually saw that video, but I don't think my question was worded very well. What I mean is, I am looking for something that folds flat as in "into the floor." IE - allows 100% of the rear space to be used for cargo. In this video, there still appears to be 8-12 inches of clearance taken up by the seats when "totally flat." Thanks for replying, tho.

I would have had a five minute search looking for it at all times if I did that. Though I guess there are people who have this little thing called organization I haven't grasped yet. It seems like Ford believes in making their vans like Tinker Toys. You can kind of throw them together however you want if you enjoy lists of options.

Hi, 3rd row seats fold flat. You need to fold / tilt the bum section forward and then pull the red string at the back of the 3rd row. this will then make the back rest fold into the bum section. Then, folding the 2nd row flat allows for a perfectly flat floor at over almost 7 feet in length.

Thanks! I glad to know the seats can fold down more. :)

I watched so many of your reviews and I have to say that I enjoy the ones about minivans, your tone of disdain is almost laughable, is so obvious your dislike for these poor boxes on wheels...I do share your hate for minivans, Great reviews!!

Yes they use these vehicles in the paris dakar rally and the Rubicon jeep trail in CA. Also I believe the military uses these vehicles when the Hummer isnt quite capable enough

I looks like you folded the rear seats wrong. You have to fold the part you're butt sits on first and then the part your back rest on.

No, he folded them correctly. That's how the Transit Connect seats fold, at least on the three row version with middle row captains chairs.

Ford has throttle body, and computer problems on there cars just dealt with this problem on my Ford Fusion that I sold. They want do a recall, but offer an extended warranty that they do not honor. Stay away from Fords. Also the rear seats are an headache to let down and move.

We have one of these as a work van. it has 13000 miles on it, wiring harness has gone bad, drivers door window switched pushed into the door, outside temp sensor is intermittent and the ride is harsh. Also, the edge of the drivers seat is already starting to wear. I wouldn't buy one.

For work, you say? I'm wondering if ALL of the company employees treat their service vehicles with care? I highly doubt it. Most people treat their company vehicle like shit and thus, it wears down faster than the normal rate. Imho...

Err.., I think Ford & as well evry other car manufacturer else, including the Koreans themselves, seriously's gotta loose that absolutely hideous ala Korean 4-by-4 pioneered air-conditioner vent-vanes design that purportedly vertically sandwiches-in the whatevr. sound system or touchscreen smart-panel in the middle, that type of simplicity. If anyone needs any cue pointers, just go look-up on Frenchs' Peugeot or Citroen designs.
I once read, but coud not place where I read it, dunno if it was Porsche or Ferrari, that sed their vehicles looked way better by their approach, that the touchscreen panel had as if no borders to its left & right, such that it duz'nt look like the sed panel was as if hemmed-in or squeezed by the ugly vents.
I'm of the opinion designers shud w/o further delay, give "Such" mentioned offending eye-sore center console design (absolutely 'NOT' directed at Ford) with vents that look like places for cockroaches to roost when comes day break, design a swift "kick in the butt" send-off & give that spot there a whole new look (meaning), "Futuristic" like, probably ?
