    Exhuast. When it comes to exhaust pipes. The smaller diameter of the pipe the faster the pressure wave travels down the pipe. This is why the twin cams with smaller diameter straight pipes had such a loud crack or pop to them when you got in the throttle. If you take the head pipe at the head and make it larger diameter and step it down several times this causes the pressure wave to speed up as it travels Down the pipe. This in turn helps draw the next pressure wave out of the head. In other words it helps the heads breath. If you take these stepped down head pipes and dump them into a larger canister it quickly slows the pressure wave down but allows the gasses to expand it acts like a silencer on a gun barrel. In essence it’s kind of the same thing just a lot less pressure. It you take that large can “your muffler” and put some kind of media inside of it. It will deaden down that sound even more due to the pressure waves getting all mixed up “the packing or louvers inside the muffler”. If you cut that media down to a minimum say short louvered baffles then add a reducer you now take those mixed pressure waves which is more like a large puff rather than a crack and speeds it back up as it exits the muffler. This is why it gives it that more of a thump sound because it’s now resonating inside the muffler can itself. The key is finding a mix of intake, cam, head pipe, and muffler that allows the largest pressure wave to form and still create that draw on the head as well as that slowing inside the muffler and that final draw as it exits the muffler. As each pressure wave enters the muffler it create another “shock wave” through the gasses inside the muffler and they act like ripples in water almost. Eventually it tuned properly it will have a very nice sound and perform very well.
    The two into one really helps the draw on the heads. The M8’s heads have a lot of potential for performance from the factory. So helping them breath in any way you can will only give you more power and better sound. The more air you have going in the more air you will have going out. You can get a rough idea of what kind of power out put a bike has “naturally aspirated” by the sound of the exhaust. It takes a while to learn what the different sounds mean, but the more you learn about it the more you will realize that you can pick things out just by the sound of the bike as they are idling through the parking lot or accelerating from a stop light.

    The reason this two-into-one exhaust has such a pronounced rumble is that the muffler on this exhaust system is completely open and the outlet is only 1.5 inches. This really amplifies the exhaust sound and also boosts the low-end torque because of the high exhaust velocity.

      You are right. As good as it sounds in the videos, it really doesn't do it justice. He pulled out of the khromewerks booth in daytona and i was shocked at how much better it sounds in person. So was everyone that was trying to figure out wth bike was just running. Lol he definitely solidified my decision to go with the 475 cam too.

    I remember that video! I think it sounds great on video so, in person must be even better! Dave put the other baffles in and sounded great as well.. he said with that one you may get more torque but, you decided on the reducer…
    I’d like to do a 2 into 1 like yours… I have the 107 as well with the S&S 465 cam kit.. pump/ plate… it would probably sound great too!
    Great video as always John!! Love your videos… always look for em as soon as I get on! Thanks for what you do!!

    @anthonyb5614 Před rokem +2

    I have the 2-2 slip ons, I wonder what it would sound like if you put the reducer baffle in the right side and the left side louvered?

  • @byoung8528
    @byoung8528 Před rokem +1

    I have had the 475 cam in my 107 for 2 years and thought it sounded and performed well with my decatted 2-1-2 head pipe and V&H slip ons until I installed the Khorme werks 2into1 outlaw with the reducer, Wow sound is amazing a little louder but not obnoxious and the torque moved right in to the sweet spot. I have had 2into1's on an EVO, twin cam and M8 and would never go back to 2into2. One caution when running the 475 cam with the factory head pipe is the bike tends to run richer with that cam and the clutch side pipe is lazy and does not expel the exhaust gases with the same velocity so at idle or in rally traffic the fumes drift up on your passenger and can be unbearable.

  • @btoso32

    Hey John love the content! In your opinion is it the cam swap out (stage 2) that makes your bike able to stay on the higher rpm range and not sound like something is wrong. I’ve watched so many of your vids and I always see the RPMs so high on my 22 road glide with a stage 1 when I get the RPMS that high the motor sounds like it’s straining. If you have a chance to see this would love any knowledge you can drop!
    Thanks for everything brother.

    John, I have asked you about this before but don't recall getting an answer. There are three inserts (baffles) available, Performance (has an adjustable tongue inside, bottom right in the picture of all inserts ), Louvered (top right in the picture of all inserts) and Ripper (straight through and is loudest but poorest performing of the 3. It's the middle picture of all inserts). Can you tell me for certain which one of those you are running? I believe it's the Louvered as I can't see the tongue of the performance baffle and don't think Dave would even consider the Ripper. If you don't know, can you confirm with Dave? I run the 2 into 2 Dominator KW exhaust with the tongued performance inserts on my 21 RGS , Stage 2. Works great but I'm switching to a 2 into 1 KW as I now have regular bags and want the performance look. I have been a 2 into 1 advocate forever (2-1 wasn't available last year (sold out/back order) when I was doing the build last year). I will then contact KW for a reducer (although it looks like the items on the top left and bottom left in the picture of the inserts. I don't think KW will sell to the public. I will have to get a part number from them. Thanks for any definitive info.
