So, uh, wow, Dust Devil's really gotten some attention, huh? I figure y'all would probably like to see how the mod's going, then!
So, to show how things are going thus far, I wanted to show off the cutscene leading up to the fight -- after all, it is a mod to the main game! I wanted to implement it not as a full-on replacement for Ceroba's fight, but rather, a new branching path. The switch is in Starlo's "dual" -- if you shoot him first, the game carries on as it always does. However, if you decide to let him shoot first, THEN things start to change.
I won't say much more on the subject -- just know that things are turning out quite nicely~
for no reason in particular i'm going to offer the bonus information that one particular animation is in the files as "spr_ceroba_backshots" so do with that what you will

I think starlo should be a bit more emotional, especially since he says you’re dirt if you kill ceroba in pacifist.
It's hard to make new Sprites for the faces since it's more detailed i think, plus it's hard to code into it whit new dialogue and all.

In Neutral and Pacifist, you can only draw your gun after the ten paces and the prompt comes up. Genocide is different because you can just shoot him while you're getting in position

wow, great cutscene lol, I think the battle background could be a little bit more improved with the feisty five cards around the screen, but overall great, better than the fight I'm making on this fan game lol
Thanks for the input! I intentionally wanted the background to be somewhat empty-looking and bleak, though -- the focus is on the dust flying in the background, especially as it slowly increases throughout the fight, and I felt that additional details would distract from it.
ok thx, got it and it makes sense... but I really liked the backgrounds changing all the time in Undertale Yellow Feisty Four fight and it can be something like after you attack it's flash and then you get the sun background of Starlo and the card backgrounds of Feisty Four, it would really be cool, but not necesarry tbh

Honestly, it would be cool if there was a way to fight not only the Feisty Five, but also Ceroba in this. That way, those who abort the route can see them in action in the Flowey fight.
Hey so, a couple questions.
1: What did Ceroba use to heal him?
2: What exactly makes them change their dialogue from usual?
I decided I wanted to leave what Ceroba healed him with ambiguous, whether it was an item of some sort or some aspect of her magic. As for what makes the dialogue change: normally, Ceroba gets there after Starlo's already been shot, and so he's already past saving. With this, I altered it so that waiting until after Starlo shoots first, gives Ceroba enough time to arrive BEFORE Starlo's hit -- meaning she sees it happen firsthand, and there's still a chance to save him.

You know, I've kinda struggled with figuring out how Starlo would get a Genocide fight while also not making Ceroba look stupid. Some people suggested she'd take the blow for him, but that'd be stupid considering she has shield abilities. But taking her out while she's distracted and her back is turned? Smart and effective. Love it.

@@Al-AmeenAdewunmi all that's left for that touch of realism would be for her to give the player her exp (of course since that would push the clover to lv 12-13 depending on exp amount, so the feisty five's damage would be higher than ceroba's)

But in a more serious note. Clover shooting her in the back makes no sense. For her to sacrifice herself. Besides adding emotional Tension, Clover ain't a rat to shot anyone in the back. Matter of fact he NEVER did. (Ie.: Clover stopped fighting with Martlet when she asked, back at Snowdin. So that speaks of Clover's morals)
My general interpretation of Clover during the Vengeance Route, is that Clover's morals slowly erode more and more throughout the route. While they did allow Martlet to escape in Snowdin, their LOVE -- which, of course, is Level of Violence, their killing intent -- is higher now than it was then. That's why they can shoot Starlo in the canon dual *before* the ten paces have finished, and why here they'd shoot Ceroba in the back for healing the monster they'd *just* almost eliminated. Plus, it might also be a bit of deja vu from other runs -- either from her moral failings as explained in True/Flawed Pacifist, or just from the absolute pain in the ass that her typical Vengeance Route fight is right at that moment.
That said, I do appreciate the criticisms I'm getting on this! There's ways I'm planning on tweaking the scene for the final release, and also additional bits and pieces throughout the fight that will hopefully make things feel more right.
@@KendallMcIntosh128 It's all good bro. Another thing to criticize is Ceroba getting One-shotted. Whilst yes, it's normal for most monsters (& in undertale's case, bosses) to get outright deleted... Ceroba has kinda proven herself to be much more durable than a 1-hit, in both her True pacifist encounter, & geno. But I'm sure you'll make it work
Clover literally wills to shoot starlo in the back in the original cutscene, and they also try to shoot axis in the back because he falls in the hole. Not only that, they also threaten to shoot Mo and steal his money. Pls dont say shit, Clover WOULD actually do this, they arent all ethical

To be fair, Clover can shoot Starlo in the back if you press Z early enough. Their sense of judgement is slowly going out the window even in vanilla Undertale Yellow.

This is REALLY cool (Ceroba turning into dust while running was awesome), but I feel like the whole thing kind of drags on for too long. Starlo barely has a reaction to Ceroba’s death and the Posse feel super awkward

Idea: I would prefer it if fighting the feisty five didn't mean skipping Ceroba's fight. I'd like to fight all of them in one long streak. It would be cool if, instead of killing Ceroba before fighting the feisty five, she supports them by casting a protection spell every few turns. If you target her, she just makes another barrier on herself, so you have to beat the others first. Also, it would be a good way to make them each last more than a couple turns, since under normal circumstances Clover's attacks would just kill them in like two hits. Although this mod is going to be sweet either way.

or maybe starlo is still there as usual but the feisty four interrupt the duel and the fight then begins after mooch gives starlo the wild revolver and then later on where starlo would normally be fought ceroba jumps clover

reading other comments it'd be cool to be given the choice of who to fight depending on what you choose to do with starlo, but this also raises some questions. If the feisty four are going to appear when Ceroba dies in place of starlo what stops them from appearing after her boss fight? do they just back off at the last second before appearing? of course, just making a feisty four fight forafter ceroba's fight anyway is not what i am asking for here, but the feisty four appearing still raises some questions about why they don't appear if you shoot starlo first and initiate ceroba's boss fight.
also will starlo + the feisty four give 1500 exp like ceroba?
Shot in the back is cowardice. I have never felt so much pain, in the last minute of her life she runs to her killer and dies in front of her friend. Poor Ceroba and Starlo. In both cases, when one of them dies it is very painful, especially when Ceroba loses a childhood friend.
I really like this! I'm glad Starlo lives because Ceroba's able to heal him and not some determination/gaster shenanigans!

Nice into, but there are definitely flaws.
1. Ceroba's run. It's not in character, and the effect it has just isn't good. Ceroba only had the motivation & fury to charge Clover in OG UTY because he killed Starlo - the last person she really has left. Plus, if she's moments away from dusting/dying, you think she'd be too weak to run, let alone stand, right? Collapsing into Star or something similar would make more sense, and be more emotional
2. Star's lack of anger at you killing Ceroba. Like, I understand why the dialogue is him calling Clover dishonorable, but considering how mad he gets in flawed pacifist after killing her.. kind of makes this a pretty large underreaction. Still can't wait to see the full fight tho

Nah, monsters take way more damage the less they wanna fight and the more the killing intent is of the aggressor, I think you can find that in the monster library.
But Ceroba was prepared for the comming attack, right?

the mod looks really good, only the scene where ceroba dies seems a little less emotional in a way, also at the end starlo should not say "surrender now and il let you go". clover does not deserve to be let go after what he's done
point is, a little bit of emotion is lacking, otherwise this is exactly how the game shouldve been, uty glazed ceroba slightly too much :)

Aw hell nah I have no idea how Ceroba trying to fight back in the heat of the shock and being completely gone is funny to some.
That shit is pretty saddening, even if the run animation itself is goofy itself in my opinion. I would give the dusting away part a bit more emotional "Oomph", something like Ceroba disappearing from bottom to top and before she's fully gone she tries reaching out to Clover? Or just having her knee down mid run. Idk either way this shit is still as depressing as a Genocide route should be.

I like it, but I feel like it would be better if Ceroba got to Starlo before Clover shoots. Ceroba being able to just heal Starlo like that on the fly makes me ask why didn't she do that when Clover shoots Starlo first. From the looks of it, it doesn't seem like Starlo would have died any faster. This healing power is also a power she has never used before, and it seems like she kinda pulled it out of nowhere, like, if she had that power all along, why didn't she try healing Kanako then? Not saying this is bad though, in fact I quite like it! I just feel like it could use some more improvement. Also, as others have pointed out, Starlo should be way more emotional after Ceroba's death, especially considering his reaction to her death in Flawed Pacifist. Despite this though, I'm very excited to see how this mod turns out :)
Ceroba's death is kinda too silly too, for what is supposed to be quite the emotional moment, but oh well.
I was thinking the same thing. The best explanation I could think of was that by the time she would normally show up, the wound from the bullet already took its toll on Starlo's body and he couldn't be healed from it.
