  • Two powerful militaries and how they compare between the British and the French. Who has more troops? More military equipment? Advanced systems? And so much more.
    Both are truly impressive! Proud to be allies.
    Let's dive into it!

    Rafale is still considered one of the best omnirole fighter
    it can do any mission compared to the Eurofighter.
    There are several variants like the new Rafale F4 and F4.1 thought.
    Rafale can also carry the ASMPA-R a mid range H bomb missile.

    "The UK and France are two of the greatest military (and cultural) powers to ever exist. They laid the framework for every other successful modern military. Glad to have them both as allies! 🇬🇧🇫🇷 much love from a grateful American." - A comment from the original video which sums it up as an American.
    Truly an immense amount of history between the British and French, along with the massive amount of influence they both have had on the world.

    I have a deep respect for the Royal Navy. But regarding the 2 British aircraft carriers, they don't have catapults - which means less efficient aircrafts even for the F35 Navy while the Rafale M is quite efficient, omni role and therefore as good as the F35; besides, the British carriers are not nuclear. And the 3 large French helicopters / troops carriers were forgotten in the video. For the nuclear weapons, France doesn't depends on the US unlike UK. Anyway, the 2 countries are allies and their military are complementary which represents - with Germany - a huge problem for Putin if he puts even a toe in NATO territory - as we can plan, following his pathetic war against Ukraine.

    Of course the French army is bigger. France has led borders that need defending. Even at the hight of empire the UK never had the world's biggest army.

  • @deuxalex562
    @deuxalex562 Před rokem +20

    First of all, I think that most of the comments made are wrong, even you HistorYEET! The UK has 2 newer aircraft carriers, but technologically inferior to the French one, even if it is much older, it is a nuclear aircraft carrier with a catapult. France is the only country in the world that has a nuclear aircraft carrier outside the US. Many people have commented that the military forces in the UK are much better prepared, maybe yes or maybe not. France had found its military involved in military conflicts in Africa and other regions of the world. No matter how well you train your troops, it doesn't compare to a real conflict. Now regarding the air forces, yes UK has F35 and Typhoon, France has Rafale and Mirage. The Rafale is considered one of the best fighter jets in the world and the Mirage, even if they are old, can still put up a good fight. F35 relies a lot on invisibility that has not yet been tested in a real fight, at how fast technology advances you can't be sure if they can be detected or not, when you fight an opponent who in turn has quite a lot of technology advanced, if the F35 can't rely on invisibility, it's like a dead target and it's not made for close air combat. The Typhoon is also a very good fighter plane, but inferior to the Rafale, anyway the experience of the pilots is very important here as I think both the UK and France have very well trained pilots. In naval forces the UK has a small advantage. So in general, the UK and France are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to military strength, but yes, the UK has a small advantage in naval forces, but France has a stronger land military force plus many more missile launchers and not in lastly, France is ahead of the UK in terms of nuclear weapons, possessing 300 and the UK 255, plus, in order to be able to use the nuclear weapons it possesses, the UK needs the consent of the USA, while France does not. Anyway, all this doesn't matter in the end, they are allied states and let's hope that we will never see an armed conflict between the two states. Sorry if the expression is not exactly correct, English is not my native language, I am from Romania.

    • @tiggerwood8899
      @tiggerwood8899 Před rokem +5

      Sorry, @DeuxAlex, but you are wrong about the nukes. The UK deterrent is operationally independent, and the UK does not require US or NATO authorisation to use its deterrent - UK nuclear weapons remain under political control at all times; only the Prime Minister can authorise the firing of UK nuclear weapons

    • @RichHaynes2012
      @RichHaynes2012 Před 11 měsíci +1

      The comparison is mute because we have differing priorities. France has a large land border to protect so it needs a larger land force. The UK is an island so its going to prioritise its navy and air force over ground forces. Obviously the UK government won't reveal their tactics but I believe that the current strategy is to have the ability to fight the war as far away from the territory as possible.
      This is highlighted by the fighter jets. All French jets need a catapult (which can fail and ground all planes) or a runway (which gives away the jets positions). A chunk of the UK jets can take off without these and that gives them a huge strategic advantage.
      The UK have never been about brute power but rather about strategy. Being able to do more with less is brings a massive advantage when it comes to logistics. The Russians proved that early in the Ukraine war when their logistics couldn't keep up with their advancements.
      But then as the video highlights, we're allies. By having differing abilities means we can complement each other and overcome an enemy.

  • @chucku00
    @chucku00 Před 8 měsíci +2

    The older French planes are Mirage 2000. The Rafale are as recent as the Typhoon and they are way more versatile. They are the only non-US plane that can operate on US aircraft carriers.
    In case of nuclear strike, the UK needs the green light from the US because their Trident missiles are loaned by the US and the Typhoon can't carry nuclear weapons. France nuclear arsenal is totally independant and the Rafale (both marine and air force versions) can carry nuclear weapons.
    5:51 With its overseas territories, the French Navy has to cover the world's second biggest maritime domain (11 million km2 VS 7 million km2).

    Last comments from the presentation are very important. UK and French armies have been roughly equivalent for many years, with an edge for the Royal navy, and an advantage for the French ground forces; But in recent years, the very difficult economic situation of the UK that lost a lot with Brexit has meant a reduction of the quality of the UK army. The situation is exactly reversed for France, they had a low investment early 2010s' but have reinvested since 2018 and their recent army budgetary plan is planning for again more investment. UK navy used to be better but the production of new ships has been massively delayed. Only one of their two carriers is operational, with a reduced air wing. French navy is not much better but they at least got a batch of new excellent attack submarines. Air forces are roughly equal if you look at fighters: while it is true that France still operate modernised Mirage 2000, UK also as trench 1 Typhoons that are being retired as they have very limited operational capacities, so their actual number of available fighters is going to go down as F35 procurement is very slow. Ground forces of both countries have suffered from lack of funding but France has been faster to renew its armored vehicle fleet. There are however other areas that few people talk about and that are critical: drones, security (computing network etc.) and space. Both countries suffer from a lack of drones and are trying to catch up based on the lessons learned from recent conflicts. I have very little info on the UK security systems but France is now investing heavily in that field. And France has an edge regarding the use of space for military purposes, UK largely depends on US information. France logistic equipment is also better than that of the UK because France has been projecting forces abroad for many years using their own material (although with help from the US and other EU countries), while the UK is again heavily dependent on the US. An area where both countries are on par, and in that they differ from other European countries' armies, is in training and experience. Both countries' armies have been participating in real conflicts over the years and are thus "battle-tested". Finally, France has an edge in its military procurement system: there is a very close link between the ministry directorate general for armement, the army and the military industries, and most programmes are thus more or less on time and within budget (there are of course exceptions but this is the general case). UK on the other hand has suffered from very poor procurement processes in recent years (as has Germany) which has hampered its capacity of modernization.

First one of UK's is still not fonctionnal so just one Carrier as up now and no catapult but a ramp so no AWACS and just 26 F35 B, less fuel and less bomb by plane in term of capabilities yes the French Charles de Gaules is older but still no comparison.

    Thing with comparisons it goes by numbers and is constantly changing and upgrades. Russia was 10 times more powerful than Ukraine who in theory should of walked over Ukraine yet struggles even to take a single town. Go through history Persians had something like 300,000 troops against Spartains 5,000 and lost and there are plenty of other examples. There are so many other factors like training, morale, willingness, deception, quality, intelligence, politics and the need to know and luck. etc etc.
