Our year ended with a huge electric thunder and lightening storm lasting 3 hours and tripping all the electricity meaning our New Year's Eve dinner was candlelit. We then got up early for our early morning game drive where we saw little but the extent of the rain damage, the river had risen and overflowed by 4 meters!
Went on a long game drive in the evening, trying to find the elephants... got closer and closer with their tracks/ spore becoming increasingly fresh when suddenly we found them with Gobizwe standing in the middle of the track waiting for us! He's the bull on musth so his testosterone level is up by 400% which basically means he wants to make love with anything that moves. And if it doesn't move he'll make it move! But he was waiting for us, knew we were coming then charged us!!! It was hectic, Promise started reversing straightaway and we got stuck in the mud with this Jumbo baring down on us. Promise started reviving the engine, challenging Gobizwe, standing his ground. Gobizwe started turning away so we reversed out again when suddenly he charged but even faster this time and with Promise hectically reversing around corners with dense bush on one side and 10,000V electric fence on the other side! Gobizwe eventually gave up and we got out alive! But not without a few more excursions into the bush as we continuously slid off the ridiculously muddy track...
Gobizwe!! What a name? Very scary. Imagine driving on a muddy road then someone says "gobizwe is at the corner waiting for you".
These rangers are well prepared. It is important that when on a safari, your guides know what to do and know when to back off. Being on a safari is like being one with these animals. Purely educational!
if they didn't begin to flee back, that elephant couldn't attack them anymore!
Ah the familiar faces of the wonderful rangers, Promise the driver and Shandu at the head seat..You guys need to go back and experience Mabula the bull that is currently in musht and even more formidable than Gobizwe here. Magical place, thanks for sharing.
It's was an incredible experience, glad you had the chance as well! I definitely want to go back and check out Mabula and see the awesome staff again :)
It was just like the stories in the book. And yes, that was well worth sharing. Thank you again!
That was a close call !!
Too close
Oh oui il est beau 🎉.
That was jurassicly good footage.
I was so impressed with how the driver dealt with the situation :) could have been much worse haha
Cool. They definitely know their stuff
Thank you for sharing that video!
Now these tourists acted like they had some sense. They were quiet and calm until they were away from the elephant.
Actually there was some screaming on the drive
@@shuffman8094 Exactely! They behaved as an idiots! Histerical laugh.
Bulls are in musth when you see a fluid draining down the side of thier face.
I've been there. These drivers go right up to the elephants to try to get a reaction and then act like big men. This is EXACTLY what Lawrence Anthony DID NOT WANT. I'm glad the elephants have a safe place - but it's at a price.
Shocking and embarassing. Hate "those guys" for sure !
Don’t mess with the bull🕊
In the musth especially !!!
That Bull was NOT 'in musth'. Just pissed at being surprised by a noisy vehicle.
One tusk weighs approximately 100lbs.
Incredible! Mushi sterek!
well adventures are worth sharing :)
Shaun just seen this video, fantastic thanks for sharing! My 2 nightmares, mud and an angry elephant! An unforgettable experience 😬😬
Giv them their space, caus wen they feel tret dats wen they react to let u see their presence.dats all to it
What's the purpose of the guy sitting on the hood? Every elephant video I've seen has a hood guy.
He's the spotter, being on the hood means he can jump off and take a closer look whilst tracking the animals
@@frusemtel but, wouldn't he get spotted in turn, by all the wildlife? 😮😲
😅
@@GM_- They can't hide from the elephants in a big heavy noisy vehicle. They have good hearing and can also sense vibration through their feet. That bull probably knew they were there from miles off.
Why was it missing a tusk ???
I believe he lost it in a fight
Yes!!!
I have noticed a pattern with the guides. They try and do some small thing to get the animal's attention and maybe give us westerners a good camera shot and then they get out. I find this not at all sporting.
It is very unfortunate and not at all sporting that this still happens. It can be hard to find the decent game reserves however with a bit of research you can find the ones such as Thula Thula who do, without a doubt, hold their animals safety as their number one priority. If the animals are aggravated (as the elephant was in this video) they leave immediately
Not immideately. And acted like an idiots.@@frusemtel Shame!
Psst. No good. Waste of time.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
