  • We are now seeing studies of medications that have been used for diabetes in people who do NOT have diabetes to help them lose weight. This was a placebo controlled trial with solid calorie and exercise support (including THIRTY intensive meetings with a nutritionist over 68 weeks).
You can find the link to the trial below
As always, keep shooting for steady maintainable concrete strategies (weight watchers, nutrisystem, atkins, south beach) and keep pushing yourself to do regular amounts of good exercise that makes you sweaty and disgusting!

I am a healthcare provider and had PCOS since adolescence (big weight gain at puberty). DX wasn’t until age 42. I lost 100 lbs on my own, took me 3 full years being strict and working out a lot. But the. Dx with hypothyroid. Later bounced Graves to Hypo and back for more than a year. Recently RX for Wegovy. Amazing stuff. Nausea is tough, the fatigue makes it nearly impossible, but I cannot eat much. Hoping b12 now will help. Note, I a having a very hard time getting through my workday, there is no way to exercise with this fatigue and nausea. Never ending journey it seems. Far more than issues with people pushing back from the table :-(

I don't understand the argument for keto diets. I know that you are supposed have so low carb induced insulin release, that you're body goes into ketosis and you burn fat for fuel. But why does it matter if my body burns only fat and proteins or fat, proteins and carbs? What happens to excess calories from fat intake when in a state of ketosis? Does the body just secrete excess far because there is no insulin present in the blood? That seems to contradict the notion that humans have evolved to go through periods of fasting and binging. What if the only sources of calories when having excess was fat and protein. Then we wouldn't be able to make fat stores for periods of scarcity. This seems contraintuitive.
If I am on a diet of mixed macro nutrients won't my body start burning fat at the point where energy expenditure exceeds intake?
Are there not other hormones that stimulate fat storage in absence of insulin?

I understand your comment. When you are in a peaceful mood and have time to watch, give her your time. She is a rarity in the medical profession - truly cares, has lost weight herself, not selling or pushing anything from which to profit. Her videos are not flashy or professionally done, but her content is quality you can trust. Plus, it will help adjust your attention span back to a 'normal' rate. : )
