    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před 4 lety +1

      Wonderful! Glad you found the free pattern in the end. The snap needs to be at the given measurement on the flap for it to hit the right spot given on the body piece, if your clasp was further nearer the edge on the flap or you used a different seam allowance to attch the flap or changed the flap length, then it will knock the measurement out. If you use Kam snaps you can put them on at the end so you can see exactly where they are going once the item is completed. Hope that helps xx

I had no use for all the pouches with the hole at the bottom to hold a different shape bottle. This design is so great for so many different things! Also fantastic tip about different foot for top stitching! I just started using my edge stitch foot yesterday for stitching in the ditch on quilts and its so much easier. Wouldve nvr thought to do the same for top stitching. Genius! Also love the name manitizer lol

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před rokem

      Wonderful! Nylon Ripstop, unless its got a coating on the back, is often quite fine and slippery (though ripstop is a weave so it can be any weight and any composition at all, I'm guessing what you ordered). I would probably use a number 12 needle or a Microtex and a walking foot helps it not so slide around so much if its the lightweight nylon ripstop. Take a look at my video on fabrics for bag making, bit more of an explanation on there: czcams.com/video/H3sj4e2fCus/video.html

    Focus your camera on your chair before you sit in it. If it's a phone you're using press and hold the screen till AE/AF Lock appears. If you're using a camera it'll have that on a button somewhere. It'll stop your focus an light levels changing as you record. I noticed your focus hunting as you wiggled about. Hope that helps. 🙂

      @@SpencerOgg whatever make or model you have it should always have an AE/AF Lock. All it means is Auto Exposure (how bright or dark it is) and Auto Focus (which distance the camera will focus on) being locked to a certain value. If it's a phone just tap the screen over your chair then press and hold the screen. A circle will appear and say AF/AE LOCK. I hope it helps you. I'll be buying some of your patterns soon. @@SpencerOgg Good. I'm glad it helps. The only thing I'd say to watch out for (and this is because your craft space has lots of natural lighting) is if the light levels change outside like if it starts chucking it down with rain. Your video might get a little darker because you've locked off the cameras ability to brighten or darken the scene to compensate for fluctuating light levels. There's an easy solution to that. Just pull your blinds down and put your lights on. You can adjust how bright or dark you want the scene by moving the slider up and down. When you're happy, press and hold to lock everything and film away. All the best, William. 🙂

    Question about boxing corners, I understand the technique and the math, but if i have a pattern for a flat pouch like this one and i want to add boxed corners, do i just need to increase the length of my fabric pattern pieces or the width as well? Thanks!

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před 3 lety

      The box corners will reduce the height by half the total length of the box corner. They will also reduce the width across the bottom of the pouch by half the amount, but not the top. If it's a really small item like this its not normally necessary to increase the width, if you were making a large bag and you wanted it to look straight up and down you would. Same measurements but minus the seam allowance, but you can just wing it at the end as you can see the finished position xx

    So cute Diane! Thank you! Quick question - I'd like to make this hand sanitizer to match my cork bag buddies I'm making for stocking stuffers. Should I just make the pattern pieces about 1/2" smaller since I won't need to seam and turn right side out? Thanks in advance for your help. PS I have also watched your Craftsy Harris Tote class - you do a great job.

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Ann. Yes that will work fine, no need to line either - you could make the flap double to hide the back of the magnetic clasp.

    Thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial. I have just made my first one and it’s fabulous. Can I just ask what size trigger hook you use please? I ordered 38 mm and it’s very small. This is my first time doing this so not sure what size to order next time. Many thanks.

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před 4 lety

      I used a 3/4" (19mm) trigger hook - which specifies the size of gap for the strap itself, not the length or size of the hook. Look for the clasps that have a larger ring to hook onto your bag. I sell the ones I used in the video on my web site here: www.spencerogg.com/product/3-4-chunky-swivel-snap-hook-clasp-pack-of-2-choice-of-4-colours/

      Spencer Ogg Ah thank you, I will take a look now. It is only because I am so new to bag making that I don’t know what I am buying etc. Mine said 38 mm but are tiny. 👍

    What is the strengthener that you used before you attached the magnetic snap?

    • @doreenmullins1018
      @doreenmullins1018 Před 3 lety

      The subtitles say it is deckerville but I have no idea what that is.

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  Před 3 lety

      I used a little piece of Decovil (you will find it online if you Google it, I don't know what country you are in)- but you can use anything that is firm and strong, even a little piece of vinyl. It's just to stop the prongs ever pulling through with lots of use.
      Hope you enjoy making it !

      You can make it without the flap too Barbara, so it's just a drop in pocket, and it's washable, unfortunately even the type where the cap pushes through, you are still touching the fabric to squeeze the bottle. xx
