Part 1: • Dwight Gooden on His M...
    --------
Baseball legend Dwight "Doc" Gooden shared the sequence of events leading to his state prison sentence in 2005, stemming from ill-fated legal advice. It all started with Gooden driving erratically late at night in Tampa, resulting in a police stop. Feeling threatened and recalling past negative encounters with law enforcement, Gooden fled the scene in fear, later turning himself in after three days on the run.
Simultaneous personal issues, including a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend and missed mandatory classes, compounded his legal troubles. A bad call from his lawyer, urging him to take a "year and a day" sentence rather than five years of probation, unexpectedly sent him to Gainesville Correctional Center. Unaware of the legal consequences, Gooden ended up serving ten-and-a-half months.
In prison, Gooden faced initial challenges as inmates tested him, but he successfully navigated these encounters, partly thanks to tips from a fellow inmate. Despite the hardships, the experience was a stark reminder of the impact of inadequate legal counsel.

I'm tired of people, particularly men saying you shouldn't hit women. NO ONE SHOULD BE HITTING NO ONE, only if to defend oneself. I NEVER hear women say women should never put their hands on a man. In these cases when a woman's hits a man, when did she realize he's a man??? When he responds?

@@TheWonderfuldre So true I've said the same thing in the company of women. Who were saying men who hit women are cowards and weak. I said yes and any woman hitting a man is the same. Everyone should keep their hands to themselves. Every woman in the conversation said nothing just crickets. And just casually changed the conversation. So I totally believe women feel it is okay to hit men, which is insane.

the Mets on WWOR-9 in the 80’s were magical, like them or not. Doc Gooden was and always will be an almost mythical figure that transcends simply sports. thanks for the memories. Media and baseball have changed, there will never be another ‘86 Mets, not just the team…but the experience at the time, and tbh, I liked the Yankees and the family liked the Phillies😂 but that Mets jersey with #16 still makes me feel something. No MLB player does that now, times changed in many ways and I’m glad I existed then THANKS DOC ❤

Doc has always been a legend here in our city! I remember when i was in the 8th grade and my mentor had him come speak to us at her job. His words stuck with me. He showed us an example of someone who made it out the hardships of our city. Tampa wasnt easy to navigate. Regardless of what wrong turns he took as an adult. As a child he made the right choices! And his sons are fine too😂😂

If he didnt understand the sentence, that is 100% open to appeal and would most likely win. Being an addict that relapsed while on probation, among past SA issues, he was most likely going to violate within 5 years. The 10.5 months (or 7 like other sources say) was most likely the best thing for him, nonetheless. Hope he's had long term rehab and therapy since his last altercation.
