Baseball legend Dwight "Doc" Gooden shared the sequence of events leading to his state prison sentence in 2005, stemming from ill-fated legal advice. It all started with Gooden driving erratically late at night in Tampa, resulting in a police stop. Feeling threatened and recalling past negative encounters with law enforcement, Gooden fled the scene in fear, later turning himself in after three days on the run.
Simultaneous personal issues, including a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend and missed mandatory classes, compounded his legal troubles. A bad call from his lawyer, urging him to take a "year and a day" sentence rather than five years of probation, unexpectedly sent him to Gainesville Correctional Center. Unaware of the legal consequences, Gooden ended up serving ten-and-a-half months.
In prison, Gooden faced initial challenges as inmates tested him, but he successfully navigated these encounters, partly thanks to tips from a fellow inmate. Despite the hardships, the experience was a stark reminder of the impact of inadequate legal counsel. - Zábava
I'm tired of people, particularly men saying you shouldn't hit women. NO ONE SHOULD BE HITTING NO ONE, only if to defend oneself. I NEVER hear women say women should never put their hands on a man. In these cases when a woman's hits a man, when did she realize he's a man??? When he responds?
My sentiments EXACTLY
@@TheWonderfuldre So true I've said the same thing in the company of women. Who were saying men who hit women are cowards and weak. I said yes and any woman hitting a man is the same. Everyone should keep their hands to themselves. Every woman in the conversation said nothing just crickets. And just casually changed the conversation. So I totally believe women feel it is okay to hit men, which is insane.
Word!!
That part
women want to have the benefits of the old days where women were put on a pedastool and treated like fragile beings. but they dont wanna live up to it.
the Mets on WWOR-9 in the 80’s were magical, like them or not. Doc Gooden was and always will be an almost mythical figure that transcends simply sports. thanks for the memories. Media and baseball have changed, there will never be another ‘86 Mets, not just the team…but the experience at the time, and tbh, I liked the Yankees and the family liked the Phillies😂 but that Mets jersey with #16 still makes me feel something. No MLB player does that now, times changed in many ways and I’m glad I existed then THANKS DOC ❤
Best attorney ever.He got that probation off of his back 😮
Yep. Probation is a scam. They use psychology and game theory to make it last forever
Doc has always been a legend here in our city! I remember when i was in the 8th grade and my mentor had him come speak to us at her job. His words stuck with me. He showed us an example of someone who made it out the hardships of our city. Tampa wasnt easy to navigate. Regardless of what wrong turns he took as an adult. As a child he made the right choices! And his sons are fine too😂😂
man, i thought this was Keith David
I know he’s happy there wasn’t social media back in his day
Doc is really an open book‚ his honesty is refreshing․
Doc is a Hall of Famer. When he pitched he was a must watch.
Hall of Fame votes rely on stats way too much.
God bless D. Gooden. Im so glad I was able to see him play and that he is still here today.
As soon as he said A year & a day, I knew he was going to prison because you can only serve a year in county that's why they give you the day To send you to state prison
Damn wtf that mess up. Lawyers always win they get paid win or lose case
Still my heroes 1986 Mets cracking it up😂
He called the cops wirh the same phone he got hit with😂😂😂
Much love to you Doc!!! You’re a legend and one of the best to do it!
Your lawyer gave you the best advice ever. There was absolutely no way in hell you would have made it through five years of probation.
Why not
Pray for your continued recovery fam. We lost Evil E.
The lawyer knew he had a recurring substance abuse problem and probation would have just continued that pattern, thus it was best for him in the long run to go to prison
f that. if you my lawyer you work for me! you dont put me in prison!
@@multiplefutures8206he would’ve been on never ending probation
@multiplefutures8206 His actions put him in prison not his lawyer... the lawyer advises its still your job as an adult to research and make your own decisions but when you are on substances you make rash decisions. His actions put him in prison, not the Lawyer (accountability)
Great Interview
He should be in the hall of fame it’s a shame it’s just politics
Yes, same with Gary.
What we eating is wild 😂😂😂
Thanks Doc, as someone who considers himself a former athlete; although not nearly at your level; yours and Strawberry and Todd Bridges also gives me hope in the battle against addiction. God Bless all u guys and ur love ones🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Doc threw them police a nasty curve ball and got the hell outta there! And I don't blame him at all.
Bro needed to get outta Tampa….
Anyone with common sense would have chosen probation sheesh
Love your creativity, it's inspiring!

If Doc Gooden isnt a hall of famer neither is your favorite pitcher!!!😃
He is a Hall of Famer 100%!!!
Doc did the race for 3 days..
Told you take the year and day so you can sober up
Lawyer really did him a favor he can’t stay clean
Moral of story Doc….I hope you moved far far far away from Tampa! 💯
What? The judge said your taking a year and a day. You said yes. The judge never said rehab. The judge is the final word. And you sign papers for it. Iv been though it 5 times in my life. He's not taking responsibility still. That's the sign of a addict not letting go. Not in recovery
I wore #16 because of Doc!
His attorney gave him terrible advice
If he didnt understand the sentence, that is 100% open to appeal and would most likely win. Being an addict that relapsed while on probation, among past SA issues, he was most likely going to violate within 5 years. The 10.5 months (or 7 like other sources say) was most likely the best thing for him, nonetheless. Hope he's had long term rehab and therapy since his last altercation.
Nowadays you might have to differentiate between the SAs
There is no prison in Gainesville only a work camp.. big difference
Dr. K is a legend... that 86 Mets is/was one of the best ever and Gooden, damn what a way to end a career. He was HOF bound
I seriously doubt he would of stayed clean on probation because he was an addict. Doing str8 time allowed him to get clean and walk out of prison a newbie.
Yea a year & a day is exactly what it says = 1 year and a day lol especially if the other option is probation
He’s looks like Luke little brother
Dwight got the wildest muffin top ever. You can see while he’s sitting lol
I found BBL Drizzy. He's a 69 God
You weird AF looking at a man and saying he has a muffin top
😂😂😂 I peeped it and I’m kinda shocked it took so long for someone to comment
@@douglasrodenbach8000me3
Hold on WTF is a “muffin top bruh”! 😂😂😂
Still blaming lawyer

I was born In 1986. I don't really like baseball. But I have always known the Mets won the world series the year I was born. And I'm from Texas, plus I don't watch baseball. 😂😂😂😂
Well, regardless… That Hall of Fame rule sounds like some of the stupidest shhhht I’ve ever heard
Did him dirt. Anything over a364 you going to state baby.
Not the sharpest in the shed.

A year and a day is way better than 5 years probation.
Right especially since he wasn’t gonna go thru with the probation! He had already relapsed
