- In order to get your Commercial Pilot License, you need to have gotten 10 hours of flight training in a complex aircraft. In this video, we take the Mooney M20J up for the first time to complete those ten hours!
Thanks for posting.
Nice job!
That's a nice Mooney
Congrats! I own a 1985 M20J and love the airplane. Good luck on your commercial check ride. Mine is a couple of months away.
I know this video is several months old. It kind of scared me how little the instructor knew. I hope you have gotten to know your Mooney much better by now. If you are still having questions about her, then find a Mooney instructor. They are out there and most likely close to you. Look at the Mooney Airplane and Pilots Association and their Safety Foundation for more information.
I don't think the person actually owned this Mooney he was just getting instruction in it maybe rented or the instructor owned it.
+1 on that!
@@Mike-01234 Since the instructor said after taking the controls "and that's all of my Mooney flying time" - I don't think it's his plane lol
I also have a 1985 Mooney M20J which I absolutely love! Such a fun plane to fly.
👍🏻 looking to buy a mooney soon.
Nice job! gopro head mount?
Great video and nice aircraft! I just recently purchased 1985 Mooney M20J and love it! I started a CZcams channel where I fly my Mooney M20J cross-country to repossess vehicles.
Sure.
Nice plane for commercial training! I did mine in a '68 Arrow that had the glide ratio of a manhole cover. Only time I've been to Cleburne muni was when I was trying to escape a pop-up t-storm on the way into Dallas. No one was at the airport and I had to sit outside the FBO in the middle of the summer in a puddle of my own sweat. Lovely time.
NTXCardinalFlyer sorry to hear that! We go to Cleburne regularly for training with all of our students. They also host free pancake breakfasts there quite a lot. Thanks for watching!
Sounds like I need to catch the pancake fly-in!
If you had to try to escape a "pop-up t-storm" in Texas and the airport was "abandoned" that wasn't a string of coincidences and you may be trying to sound like a veteran pilot who just got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and really flew your way out of a jam and broke a sweat doing it, but everybody knows if that happened and it wasn't on Flight Simulator, you probably weren't sitting in a puddle of your own SWEAT and didn't learn much if you think you sound cool bringing it here.
Not sure what you're so fired up about, but are you implying that pop-up thunderstorms and sweating is not normal for north Texas during the spring?
DEEREMEYER1 who appointed you the FAA investigator? Perhaps you’re the one with the complex to comb through comments looking for any opportunity to be snarky.
Mooney's are a wonderful airplane. I inherited my dad C model but instead of electric gear I have the Johnson bar which is nice because my insurance premium is lower
Is it actually lower? Because Avemco didn’t even ask if we had the Johnson bar or electrical gear
Watching y'all manipulate the glareshield so frequently, was it just a poorly done modification? It didn't look like it was attached very well.
Its a Mooney. Duh.
Nice job. Will someone please design a panel cover that doesn't crack, warp or slump after a couple years? I can't believe the instructor was having to lift the panel cover to see the gauges.
A "couple years"? What the fuck are you smoking, Air Ace? And who the fuck expects "quality" and "durability" from a Mooney? The same type of person who watches this video and only has comments about the "panel cover" and the airplane.
I'm in the pre-buy inspection phase of buying an M20J. What was your opinion of the airplane type in general?
Tim Hey Tim, thanks for watching! I loved the M20J. It's a very fast plane with exceptional controllability. It is definitely a hand full though. That being said, I have heard that the M20J suffers from several gear failures/collapses.
Thanks! We put a offer on the 201 that was not accepted. Now we are bargaining for a Comanche 250. One guy in our group of 5 is a low time pilot and thus raises the insurance a bit for any HP and complex airplane. That being said, the Mooney is awesome and I'm a little disappointed it didn't work out. Thanks again for the comment.
Why are you asking a complete stranger his opinion of an airplane you''re in the "pre-buy" inspection phase of and who isn't even a pilot if he's doing his 10 hours of flight time? Do you ask student drivers what they think of a car you're in the "pre-buy inspection phase" of? Here's an idea. Why don't you "ask" the FAA and NTSB on their websites. Look for things like ADs and accidents and incidents and maybe even compare the number of Mooneys built to the number still flying and their "value" compared to other similar airplanes and how many of each are available and for sale online at any given time. You could also contact aircraft INSURANCE COMPANIES and see what THEY say about them.
you're obviously not a pilot
@@deeremeyer1749 Jeez. Are you still this toxic or did your heart stop already? I hope you are confined to your mothers' basement!
What year is this Mooney?
Jim Paar it's a 1990 m20j.
somedudeonabike no it's not it's a 1979 Mooney m20f not Mooney m20j
Using the term "airspeed is live". Is that something new? Never heard that one.
William Dixon "airspeed alive" is a common callout on the takeoff roll, a confirmation that your airspeed indicator is operating as expected.
It comes from the glass cockpit EFIS world... the airspeed doesn't display anything until 20-40 knots on some of them, thus, the call airspeed is alive indicates it is working.
Waiting for "out of useable runway" before raising the gear and reducing to 25 square for the climb are both well discredited techniques. Might be time to update the syllabus.
Tom Gulbranson anyone who understands the relationship between speed, distance and altitude. As for 25 squared, given the tuned intake and injection system, any one with a basic understanding of combustion science would not run it that way.
@@kjackles Also engine not running anywhere near full rated horsepower as altitude is gained. Decreasing power is less efficient climb. Not running "over square" is also old wives tale. Refer to Mike Bush articles via Google
Why the hell does your audio keep cutting out
forgot your flaps bud :D
What all denotes a "complex" aircraft? I think retractable landing gear is part of it, not sure of the rest.
I believe the definition of a complex aircraft is retractable landing gear, flaps and constant speed propeller.
Scott Smith Hi Scott, thanks for watching! The requirements for a complex aircraft are a plane that has a retractable landing gear, controllable-pitch propeller and movable or adjustable flaps.
Retractable gear, controllable prop and flaps.
MPPC, RG and CSU.
You get bonus points if its a Mooney and you survive ALL TEN HOURS.
Grease jobs don't do you any good when you touch down 2000 feet from the threshold. Especially working on your Commercial.
Hey Mr. Flight Instructor. More teaching. Less fiddling with everything.
