  • Hi! Welcome to my first Clarinet Hack video series!
    Today I'm testing a Nommos B2 by Playnick!
    If you're struggling with cane reeds and would like to make your clarinet life easier this video is for you! Nommos B2 is a specifically designed model for synthetic reeds, but it also works well with cane!
    In this video I'll show you how it sounds both on cane and plastic and will share some thoughts afterwards!
    The mouthpieces were kindly provided by Atelier Goncharov! Special thanks to Vladislav Goncharov!
    This video does not monetize and was made just for a demonstration purpose.

    Привет! Добро пожаловать в рубрику Clarinet Hack!
    Сегодня я буду тестировать Nommos B2.

    Really enjoyed the video!
    Have a question about the tile and use of the word "hack"How is this a "hack"?
    It's information or opinion that may be useful, but not a "hack".
    Hack definition: a clever tip or technique for doing or improving something

      thomas piercy Also I can’t say there’s no hack - for some people who struggle too much with cane reeds this demonstration would be a solution. I’m not just saying “take a plastic reed” but showing the gear that could make their life much easier.

    I like #3 mouthpiece the most, then #1. With synth reeds i liked #2 the most. can you reveal the mouthpieces please?

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety +2

      Sure! These are all Nommos B2, three mouthpieces of the same model but as you could hear they sound slightly different :)

    A few questions, what microphone are you using to record these wonderful recordings? And what clarinet do you use? I use Buffet Tradition with Vandoren M30 13 series mouthpiece with Bonade Non Inverted Ligature. Do you think it would be a worthy step up from there M30 13 Series to go to this mouthpiece that you recommend?

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety

      Dear Tek,
      I use a combination of Zoom H6 XY mic + Shure SM137 + Behringer C-2 🙈 They all pick up the sound differently and when I mix them I get the result which is more or less close to what I hear.
      Buffet Tradition is a very nice instrument. Bonade ligatures are simple and great. I don’t really like M30 but you can sound great with it for sure. If you have a chance to try Nommos series I really recommend you to give them a try! Keep in mind that they differ one from each other so it’s better to choose from at least 5 or 10. Well, you’ve heard 3 of them in this video and even though they seem very similar, there’s still a noticeable difference in how they feel.

    I find it that machine made mouthpieces like Vandoren, Reserve etc... work well with plastic. Handmade mouthpieces not much. Although there are hybrid mouthpieces that are first machine made and then hand finished like Behn mouthpieces that work very well with synthetic reeds. Also you need to add wood to it like a wooden ligature plates and / or fat boy barrels to get some more overtones in the sound. Enjoyed the video keep it up.

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for your comment! I wonder why machine made mouthpieces still feel slightly different from one to another and work differently with the same reed whether it's plastic or cane.
      And what is your opinion about crystal mouthpieces?

  • @heinvanmaarschalkerwaart9799

    I like the #1 best. the # 2 has a bad Bb in the throat register and not a big sound on the low G. #1 has a German sound. I see a German Oehler system clarinet in the back. Try a string on the mouth piece.

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety +2

      Dear Hein, thank you so much for your comments! They all have this issue with the throat register more or less, perhaps the #1 is more in tune, when choosing in the shop it’s better to check them with a tuner. Yeah I have german clarinet over there and I enjoy having fun playing it sometimes :)

      @heinvanmaarschalkerwaart9799 Před 4 lety +1

      @@AntonMoiseyenko Yes Master, Anyway, I think it is your own pure sound that comes through in all mouth pieces. Sounds very German. I am a retired Dutch symphony player om German system clarinet (Wurlitzer) Have you ever tried my Quartet arrangement. My artist name is Art Marshall. You tube is full with my arrs. Do you have email? i also made a comment about your playing. in another Yuotube video. Very good playing !

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety +2

      Hein van Maarschalkerwaart thank you :) I think there’s no mouthpiece in the world that can change one’s sound dramatically, it’s more the matter of comfort. I’ll check your arrangements, thanks for the recommendation!

    I prefer the option #2 in all tests. What kind of reed do you use for this mouithpiece? Do you recommend nommos B2 or M for people that use Vandoren BD5?

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety +2

      Please vote in the hints! ;)
      I make my own reeds, they're similar to Vandoren Rue Lepic 56 3,5 +. And in the end that was Legere European Cut 3.75.
      For the second question it depends on your physical condition :) If you're looking for something more voluminous I would suggest to try Nommos M. Actually very soon I'll post another video about it, so stay tuned! Hope it will be useful for you :)

      Mizule 3 identical mouthpieces. Brahms, Hindemith and Verdi-Bassi with cane reed, Rossini with Legere European Cut 3,75.

    • @AntonMoiseyenko

      B2 is more similar to Puccini Tosca. Verdi Traviata has a bigger tip opening if I’m correct.

    Nice video! Love it! My only problem with the B2 is the intonation on the high C/F and high B/E . It is always flat on my clarinets. Is it still like this?

    • @AntonMoiseyenko
      @AntonMoiseyenko  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you! I've noticed that the throat tones are slightly lower than, for example, on the Vandoren mouthpieces. When I played PlayEasy B2 a few years ago there was the same issue with the pitch but much more noticeable. I think with 65 mm barrel it wouldn't be such a problem, but I usually play 66 mm, maybe that affected the pitch too.
