  • This is just a simple compilation of more than 200 paraglider take offs performed in 2019 (and 1 hang glider ;)). Most of them are single-seated, but there are also several tandem paraglider take offs.
    The mix of various launching techniques (forward launch, reverse launch) in diverse weather conditions and on different take off sites is simply interesting to watch, but hopefully can also contribute for paraglider pilots of any skill level to improve their own take off skills. Watch and reflect what is good and what could be done better. Especially for low-airtime pilots mental training (mental dry runs) can help to preserve or even improve their skills during the time they have no opportunity to fly.
    Of course this is neither a tutorial nor could it replace professional training!
    Although not all take off attempts are successful and some might look risky, thankfully nobody got injured, not even slightly.
    There is no associated sound in this video. So turn on your favourite music and enjoy the show! ;)

    Well done! This is a brilliant resource for all those learning how to launch properly. Very very useful.

    • @Aiutociaobaci
      @Aiutociaobaci Před 4 lety +1

      Most of the front launches are done either with an old technique (by pulling up the wing starting with the risers in a low position) or with a wrong one (by attempting the run with to much brake pressure and without putting the upper body forward)
      I am not saying that it is a bad work, but there are a lot of better videos out there

      @@Aiutociaobaci I think there are many diferent opinions, how the "perfect" forward launch should look like.
      According to the german DHV, the inflation of the glider starts with low hands, same height as the elbows. The acceleration phase is done with only slightly putting the upper body forward in order to keep the hands with the brake line handles close to the risers. (czcams.com/video/SId-v3QXPi8/video.html)
      My video shows just "ordinary" take offs without aspiration of beeing perfect. Just as real-life examples, not as a tutorial.
      Nevertheless I would be very interested in your opinion about the right way a forward launch is performed. Could you please post a link to a video? Thank you very much!

      @@cloudnineparagliding first of all, I apologize if you were offended by my comment because it was not my intention to offend or criticize your video which I enjoyed, also because as you said it wasn't intended to be a tutorial :)
      Secondly, I also want to apologize about the fact that I assumed that the forward launching method was old. My instructor said that and it's actually the most used technique by far where I fly. Looking at your link and from some videos over yt it's clear that it's still widely used (maybe it's the most famous ways over the world), though. My "objection" is that during accelerations lots of pilots do not put the upper body forward enough. This leads to a little amount of brake pressure (->less energy) which I've seen resulting in bad things in short takeoffs or in takeoffs with low slope degrees, as the wing tends to dive once in the air

      @@Aiutociaobaci I agree with your observation, many take offs are really good but the forward momentum in the vast majority take-offs in this video, are way too slow in my opinion. I saw it right away and wondered why (almost) every one were so sluggish at the take off moment... Maybe it is the way they learn it in the alps? I don't know... (Also thanks for a great video)

      @Aiutociaobaci Před 3 lety +2

      @@pierreolsson588 I always lived and flied in Italian Alps and I've never seen pilots taking off like that. I guess is something that is more common in Austria/Germany. From what I saw on the internet it's way more easy and faster (in terms of Flights) to get a pg license there. Maybe that's why, don't know 😊😊

    Calm, steady and not rushed is the best policy. Take your time and centre the wingover your head. There are some very good pilots here :-)

      I don't have much footage of landings, but I can try.

    Hej, klasse, danke fürs "Schären"! :) Es wird für keine Sekunde auch nur im Ansatz langweilig; Hut ab. Alles dabei: vertraute Startplätze, selbst geflogene Schirmmodelle, erlebte (und überlebte) Situationen, Erfolge und Nicht-Erfolge - dazu die Gelegenheit, die eine oder andere _eigene_ "Baustelle" bei Anderen zu beobachten. Ziel erreicht. Eines der Videos, die gern weitergegeben werden. Top!
    _Sogar ein paar gute Starts mit Aircross UPrime 2 sind dabei - beneidenswert, als ich einen UPrime 2 hatte, startete ich fast nur eher bescheiden, spürte den Schirm gar nicht. Beneidenswert, dass es Leute gibt, die diesen merkwürdigen A so relaxt handeln können._
    (Und ja, die Dynamik gibt es nicht nur in der Luft, sondern auch beim Licht… Bei 13:09 ff. dürfte sie bei 1:100.000 liegen - die Wolken im Video wirklich schön durchgezeichnet, die Piloten und Schirme verschwinden dagegen im Dunkeln. Ein fies schwieriges Motiv auch für alte Hasen, in der Tat. In so einem Fall würde ich die Wolken im Bild "ausbrechen" lassen und zugunsten des Geschehens opfern. Aber das nur am Rande.)

    Some great takeoffs, some less than great takeoffs, some that I feel should have been aborted out of caution but were successful in the end, some judiciously aborted, and interesting techniques on display. Plus a very relaxing, almost meditative video overall, thank you for this!

    Bei den Videos mit dem weißen Haus im Hintergrund sieht man immer wieder, dass der Schirm nach der Aufziephase sekundenlang voll durchgebremst wird und teilweise auch so gestartet wird. Das ist so gefährlich! Wer bringt den Leuten so was bei? Ich habe das anders gelernt...
