    One thing that I've noted with USB flash drives over the years is that the smaller the drive, the worse the performance. A good USB flash drive, especially ones with higher capacities need to have a larger footprint to accommodate more components and provide better thermal performance.
    Mediocre flash drives are everywhere but I'd highly recommend that you stay away from them especially for capacities > 32GB or you'll end up having to deal with frustrating backup times.
    Among all the drives I've used, I'd recommend the Corsair Voyager GT/GTX drives(if they are being made anymore) or the Sandisk Extreme/Extreme Pro USB drives for decent write performance.

    Hello there, I also had that Sandisk Ultra Flair, your favorite disk. It was not your fault that you broke it. The inner part of the thumb stick is actually hollow. The mouth of the usb stick actually contains the flash storage already. My usb got its plastic cracked. I think the reason of having it metal is that when the usb flash heats up it would cause the plastic to heat up to, over time breaking that plastic and causing you to buy a new one.

  • @Kaelas
    @Kaelas Před 10 dny +1

    I used the winner ( SanDisk Ultra Flair) for 2 years. I sent it back for warranty once because of overheating. The new product has arrived but it is also getting hot. In other words, it provides reading and writing speeds, but it heats up in a very short time and there is a huge decrease in speed. That's why I definitely don't recommend it.

    • @shiouming
      @shiouming Před 11 hodinami

      Hi, may I know if you bought it from reputable retailer, random retailer, or directly from Sandisk? Did you deal with Sandisk directly for the warranty claim, or was it honoured by retailer? I'm considering to get one, but reading quite a bit of reports of overheat. There're different speculations of the cause: counterfeit, all USB 3 storage will overheat, or small flash disk will overheat, etc. I'm totally lost 😅

  • @dv5809
    @dv5809 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I have four of USB type C Ultra Dual Drive Go 32GB, they all have overheating issues. Read speed for cold drive is ~160MBps, after heating up (almost instant) it drops to 120MBps.
    For the write, they reach 60MBps but only for the first 0,5GB of transfer, after that speed drops to 45MBps, then after transferring total of 1,5GB speed drops again this time to 20MBps, then after 6,5GB in total, transfer speed drops yet again to ~16MBps.
    So the average write speed for 10G file is 23MBps.

    Can you review the Datatraveler SE9 G3 as well? DTKN 64GB variant has lower write/read speeds than the higher capacity Kyson variants (128-512GB), which might explain why you've gotten slower than advertised transfer rates. DTSE9 G3 variants have no speed discrepancies according to Kingston. The 512GB variant of SE9 is one of the cheapest for its size - way cheaper than SanDisks, for certain.
