      🤞 for big results this year, with your main pond emptied out and the grow on, with some quality little crackers in there

    Great video , koi looking in perfect health. I like your idea of mixing the foods together then the fish dont get used to just one type of food. Can you tell me where you sourced the new food container from. Keep up the videos well done a usual...Thanks Andy

    I 've gone back to Hikari I've tried all the other brands and always find that after a few months they either clog my drum with a slime or cause my water to have a tinge of brown to it. I only feed wheatgerm now all year round. I'm not too concerned with growth and to be honest when I did feed growth food only noticed the same levels of growth on average per year. Fish look great some stunners there for sure.

    • @madaboutkoi
      @madaboutkoi  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes i have heard people do get similar results with wheatgerm and some cheaper foods such as coppens.

      @@madaboutkoi I've tried Coppens but after a while they started leaving it lol

    With all that food you are going to need a (cough! cough! Protein skimmer 😜) I hope you and the family are well the koi are looking fantastic, sometimes less is more. I started using aqua source last year and especially for the price its great food and doesn't trash the water or create too much waste.

    Is that a Matsuba in your pond? Nice looking fish and on my wish list. How many grams of food do you think you are putting in per day?

    • @madaboutkoi
      @madaboutkoi  Před 4 lety +1

      If you are talking about the red one then yes matey its an aka matsuba. Love it. Got no idea about weight of food to be honest. I will have to check

  • @wills1206
    @wills1206 Před 3 lety +1

    How many koi did you introduce to your pond first of all to avoid new pond syndrome? Got a similar size pond to yours and got 3 tosai koi on order from Gatwick koi. Would this be too little to start the nitrogen cycle? Cheers mate

    • @madaboutkoi
      @madaboutkoi  Před 3 lety

      Hi,
      Even those 3 small koi will produce enough ammonia to get things going. With a brand new pond its always best to gradually increase numbers over time. Remember to watch those parameters closely and if you can install a trickle in / trickle out to help neutralise the spikes. This stops the need for huge water changes as the parameters rise.

    • @wills1206
      @wills1206 Před 3 lety

      @@madaboutkoi thanks for taking the time to reply mate. I will install a trickle in trickle out system to help with water chemistry 👍

    Hi I have noticed that every koi keeper on you tube always uses pellets rather than sticks ,is there a reason for this ?

    • @madaboutkoi
      @madaboutkoi  Před 4 lety

      Very good question!
      Purely comes down to quality mate. Sticks are very cheap and low it nutrients. Generally artificially coloured to appeal to the buyer rather than the koi!
