    I currently work at starbucks and I'm honestly getting ready to quit🙃 not only was my experience horrible but everyone there is drama filled even the adults. I've been there for 5 months now and I've been on bar maybe 3 times and they continue to refuse to let me train. All I do is clean for them. They never sent me my benefits in the mail (I got this job because it's been a dream to work there but also for insurance) I make 11 right now but no matter what, I always ask for hours and the most I get a week is 12hrs (3 days a week, 4hours a day) and when I had an anxiety attack when working due to only 3 of us working NEW YEARS EVE NIGHT with mobile orders, café and drive open and my manager just straight up said "get over it"😬 I was shaking from it visibly to.

      That is so terrible and I’m sorry you have been dealing with that. I always tried to move the baristas around because no one wants to only do one roll the whole time! Also, not getting the hours for benefits is so evil of them 😢

      as a starbucks barista, i’m right w u sis. on my way to quitting very soon. i’ve only had the job for like 8 months. but just got told last night in my shift that supervisors are making up false info abt me and all they’re doing is talking abt me pretty shitty to my boss. everyone is drama filled it’s disgusting bc half of them are like 30 yrs old and acting like teenagers. i totally get the barely any bar time. yk why it’s like that? 👏favorites👏 there are hella favorites and they made me clean and do customer support for months before i got on bar. im sick of being treated like shit. let’s quit girl we deserve better.

    This video helped me feel less guilty about quitting. I quit two weeks ago and Sunday is my very last day. The only part I enjoyed about this job was my coworkers. They are so nice and since most of them are my age, I’ve become close friends with some of them. We joke around a lot which helps keep me sane lol. But besides that it’s not worth staying there a long time. Like you said it’s nice for a summer job, or like me, in reality you would only stay there for a year. There is sooo much pressure and a lot of customers are so entitled. We could never even turn off mobile orders even if it would’ve helped. Also customer connections, as an introvert it’s one of the things I hate most. They even had this bingo card one time to make us ask them embarrassing questions like their favorite color or just really random questions that make no sense. I even got in trouble one time for not connecting enough but how am I supposed to be connecting and lowering drive times.

      3 months late to this comment but I just thought I would say customer connections is literally my least favorite part of the job. As a whole, Starbucks pushes speed. BUT, they also push trying to form a connection with damn-near everyone who walks through the door, comes through DT, and even Mobile orders. These two things directly contradict each other ESPECIALLY when most locations are chronically understaffed. I've barely been here 2 weeks and I'm already thinking about leaving.

    Starbucks is the worst job I've ever had. We were the busiest store in our area, it was so busy it was hard just to take bathroom breaks. The customers were the worst people I've ever delt with, I always thought the idea of a regular customer was someone who became like a friend or family of the store but Starbucks introduced me to the other kind of regulars that come in everyday and cause problems. Because Starbucks stresses customer connections it preys on vulnerable people who should be in counseling working on building a real support network but instead come into Starbucks and depend on the Barista's for the only support and interaction they get and use them as their stand in therapists. It's a fast food corporation full of stressed out underpaid employees, it shouldn't be a substitute for mental health services and unfortunately it is for a lot of people. The vulnerable aren't getting the help they need, the baristas are expected to build these intimate customer relationships they don't have the time or energy for, everyone loses but Starbucks who makes $$$ off of lonely people.

    I disagree with the transferable skills part. Many other employers respect Starbucks and you gain a lot of soft skills in customer service, teamwork, and working under pressure. I’ve had many Starbucks co-workers who have gotten good jobs while leveraging their experience working at Starbucks. Sure it isn’t a career job, but it’s not a waste of time to work there if you do want to gain some real world work experience.

    I work at a Starbucks in a Target in a tourist heavy area of a tourist heavy city. It's been hell. Everytime I adjust to the amount of people more come. There's always complaints about how we do things and we're always either under or over staffed. Not to mention Target employs us, so if they want us to do something for them we have to oblige. I certainly don't recommend it at a Target store tbh. Better pay in average, but it has it's own challenges in the way of stress. If you're high anxiety I certainly wouldn't recommend it at all

Too much pressure trickling down from managers to supervisor to baristas. Actually we the customers sometimes feel bad treatment from these youngsters at Starbucks, but thanks to this video I will be more compassionate towards these youngsters. I just don’t like that much their angry attitude. They don’t even show gratitude when you leaving them tips. Great video hope Starbucks management gets better for employees to customers. Starbucks barista is a menial job with low barrier to entry and no work experience required. Its a great transition job for young people or people who are in between careers. Stop trying to place such high expectations on it. If Starbucks baristas were paid the same as doctors, then nobody would be a doctor. Not every job is meant to be a life-long career. Jobs like Starbucks fill an important niche in the job market and, frankly, I am grateful that these types of jobs are available in case my career goes south and i need a quick, temporary source of income.

    I actually quit recently as a SSV at Starbucks. How did you leverage your skills to find a new job ? I'm asking because people like to say that oh you got a supervisor experience so you can get a job anywhere. Unfortunately I don't think its true cause like you stated in the video there aren't many transferable skills besides say communication skills from talking to customers. • @audreyguo13

    This is so relatable. I have to be fair and say that my pay is really really decent (because I live in Silicon Valley) and my store is a cafe/mobile only store so I don't relate with any of the delivery and drive-through cranks. However, the micromanaging and the "not one second still" is just fricking annoying. There are two shifts in particular at my place and one barista trainer who can get really rude. One time, it was a slow Tuesday afternoon, and I was managing reg and warming, and she told me to "clean my area" which I did. I put the mop away and she told me to clean my area again. I cleaned it again, and about 5 minutes later, she came over and was like "I ALREADY told you 2 times to clean your area and I can still see crumbs" like GIRL it's just crumbs plus we're literally going to deep clean everything when we close the store in about 3 hours. And then the second shift just never lets me go a SECOND without doing anything. Like I might just have helped a customer and I'm trying to think of the next thing I can do, and she's like "What are you SUPPOSED to be doing right now?" in this really oily nasty tone and I'm just like.. "uh" and before I can even respond, she's like "I don't want to see you standing around" and then proceeded to told me to do meaningless stuff like restocking the tea bags. The final person, the barista trainer, is SO rude sometimes. She's really nice at times but other times she will get nasty and tell me off for not doing certain things right and lecture me for like 2 minutes DURING RUSH TIME. One specific time is when I realized my shift was over, and I was like "Omg it's 2:00" and then she straight up went like "You can't leave until the shift tells you to. What are we going to do if you leave right now?" and guilt tripped me into working over time. The worst of it all is that this morning, all 3 of them were present at the same time, and I was getting told me one by one and I nearly lost it.
    Also, I saw someone comment that they've been working for 5 months but only been put on bar 3 times. And this is so true. Bar is the best part and everybody knows that, so the shifts and the people who's been there longer get priority EVERY time.
    However, I have to do justice. The other shifts are really nice. They're always willing to help, and will nicely tell me to do things instead of making me feel bad. I also love my manager. I have a pretty strict schedule due to rigorous high school classes and other things, and she's really trying to work with me and my schedule in order to let me stay. I also love the store I work at. It's one of those reserve stores, and we have a super huge cafe (we literally have 4 bathrooms which is ridiculous). I love the benefits. Definitely been using headspace and spotify premium a lot. Free coffee and food is also great. The customers we get is (for the most part) super nice and understanding. But I mean, obviously I searched for this video because I'm thinking about quitting (partly because I don't have the time but also partly because of the negative shift leaders experience)

    I really want to quit :( my SM wants us to complete drive times within 30 seconds because we were the fastest in Washington state at one point which sounds cool at first but it’s the biggest pain in the butt. I work at a drive thru and I ran to the bathroom crying after a customer kept pestering me to throw away food that another customer touched. I was going to get to it but I was busy and she kept asking me how long it would take for the food to be ready. I ran out and went to the bathroom to cry because that same day I opened up to my shift about how bad my physical health is getting (I’ve gone to urgent care twice because I’ve been told I’m overworking myself from opening shifts) and she knew how bad my mental state was and she still yelled at me for trying to prep a hot drink before I took a walk up so it could be made while I take an order. She was someone I thought I could open up to but she just completely switched into a different person because she was struggling to open the store since our ice machine was down and our water pipe was broken the day before and she was only taking it out on me. I seriously want to quit, but I don’t know where else to go, where else to work where I can get paid much more. It’s so stupid. Why do I have to deal with Karen’s on a daily basis just to make minimum wage?? I’m NOT staying here another five years just because of “free” college that isn’t even free. It’s so stupid.

    So I'm just being devils advocate. But it is a job, you have to work and stay busy. I'm all for a couple minutes of downtime but you are there to work... like how they pay you for exactly how long you work. They dont sometimes short you money right? (Duh taxes. I mean taking for nothing)

    • @watdavedoes
      @watdavedoes  Před 2 lety +4

      That is correct! But the real issues fall under the pressures to preform and the verbal abuse from some customers. People at my store were crying and have breakdowns because of things leadership was telling them. I mean angry customers are a given in the food service industry haha but I do feel like people are extra stuck up when it comes to their coffee.

    Boo hoo hoo, how many times do you think he's been to a bar or a club and treated a bartender maybe not so great yet the bartender only makes money if people tip him and the customers are under the influence and much more demanding how come I don't see Bartender videos

    • @watdavedoes
      @watdavedoes  Před rokem +3

      Well, I don’t drink BUT there are a bunch of bartender videos 😂 just search “why I quit bartending” but also, bartenders usually don’t have a manager overseeing their shift and customers, although I am sure very rude and annoying, don’t “want to speak to the manager” or yell at you because they have to call corporate because you can fix their mobile app payments. All to say, I am sure they both equally suck BUT I wouldn’t consider them comparable occupations.
