Exclusive: Broken boiler leaves frigid NYCHA residents fuming

- Dozens of people who live at a Lower East Side NYCHA complex are fuming over a broken boiler. They say it is creating all kinds of issues from lack of heat to mold. CBS2's Natalie Duddridge reports.

This is absolutely unacceptable, no human being should be without heat and hot water during these winter temperatures.
1/3 of the tenant didn't pay the rent as ERAP fund takes forever to get to NYCHA. No money = zero maintenance

@@briggjohnson358 bribe between city official and contractors, low funding to maintain low rent, and obviously tenants lack of community sense of responsibility like keep place clean, not damaging property .
@chapter 17 your last comment raises an entirely different argument than your initial statement ..and the broken boiler doesn't fall under the community's lack of maintaining property..simply put it is evident the City of New York is responsible for the property and has demonstrated a course or conduct that has resulted in the failure to use due care to provide heat and hot water to the tenants.
I feel bad for anyone living in these NYCHA buildings. Unfortunately the problem is never going to end. These buildings are so old, all thats being done is patch work. Some of these project dates back to the 1940's. The Baruch projects dates back to the 50's. It's so bad that it probably cheaper to tear down the buildings and build new ones. The only thing is where are the tenants going to live? Losing situation!!!
And yet luxury condos are going up all over the place with developers ripping down historic buildings to do so.
It’s a damn disgrace. Fix these problems and make it a priority before spending tons of money on housing immigrants!

New York City has been its own slumlord for years.......80% Of nycha buildings across the city are under these conditions.
They want to kick you out.
They just need to move those residents to another better building , demo that building and build a new one.

Funny bc when these buildings went up 100 years ago, they were a vast improvement from the old tenements people were living in at that time. Now they deserve to be condemned bc people here are living in the same squalor they were supposed to save them from.
I just posted a comment saying that when my father worked there you would receive a ticket for walking of the lawn. But during my tenure it was inhabited by some unfortunate people controlled by many vicious gangs.
He didn’t even ask the FEDS for money for no type of HOUSING CONCERN dealing with the citizens here but he ASK and he GOT that money for them OTHER people who ain’t citizens smh

You know it's not even Nycha's fault. Nycha is the last affordable place to live in the city Hud wants to get rid of nycha but they really can't do it overnight. Little by little they are reducing funding and little by little selling off the buildings. Little by little the buildings are getting worse. Residents unfortunately are the ones suffering and will end up worse off when it's all said and done

This is so bad. Someone should be arrested at NYCHA. You have people walking around with asthma, and other illnesses, constantly running back and forth to the hospital, you don't have to wonder why, this is part of the cause. Someone needs to help these people. They shouldn't have to live like this. Just sad.
Maybe if y'all pay him he could fix it.

Don’t depend on the government for your housing.
When my father worked there you would receive a ticket for walking on the lawn. However during my 25 years, every single complex is a complete shithole. All hope is lost. The buildings should be knocked down with most of the animals who live there still inside.
