I thought I can’t shut down the engine with the key so I always use the app in my phone. honestly, the app is super useful when the key cannot access your car, I am the XT5 owner and I love the car also the app. I can lock, unlock, start, and stop engine from miles away.

For the longest time, my remote start would appear to work, but it never did. It was because I kept my spare key fob in the vehicle, especially when I traveled, as a safety net, in case I lost the original. So remember, the spare inside the car, WILL NOT allow the remote start to work or allow it to work with the ONSTAR app. Remove it from the car, it works just fine. Hope this helps!

why no lights on when running. how do you know from a distance? also, what is the time out?

It's difficult to see on a bright sun, but the parking lights are ON when engine is running (Note yellow light by front wheel).
When you Remote Start your car it will run for 10 min., but you can extend running time by another 10 min. Just wait 30 sec. after initial Remote Start and then repeat the procedure: Lock Button once and hold Circle button few seconds and the engine will run for 20 min total.
