    The thing with Floor is that she never gave you the impression that she was "showing off" on this show ....it never came off as, " listen to me sing classical style , watch me do some salsa , country, contemporary AND im going to do all this better than you guys " never did i get that feeling from her , which just shows you how humble and nice of a person she is .

      I do not know her privately, so I cannot and will not have any opinion about it, ask Hannes and Freya.
      But she strives for perfection, and will do anything to put a good performance on stage, or she want do it at all. ( And these are her own words.) She knew the concept of the show and could have known there were some artists with songs that would take some 'engineering' to make those her own, in such a way she could sing them.
      And I agree that she most likely did not want to 'show off', but had to commit to her own standards, do it well, or not at all.

      @@dutchman7623 It's a question of what motivates you: impressing others (the immature motive), or making the best work of art you can (which in case of a song is expressing the feeling / emotion / story of the song, and leaving the judgement up to the listener / viewer / reader). The latter is the motive of the real artist. And this is exactly where Floor shines: You get the feeling that she always gives the best performance she can, without being concerned about what you as listener will think. That is a form of artistic courage that separates her from a great majority of other singers and performers, and makes her really special...

    • @dutchman7623
      @dutchman7623 Před 2 lety +1

      @@rientsdijkstra4266 It is not a shame, or a bad thing, if someone wants to be the best in their profession. Show others how it should be done... and sweep them from stage.
      It is the only motivator to reach the top and to endure the pain and struggle to get there.
      Max Verstappen, Sven Kramer, Anton Geesink, Irene Wüst and Floor Jansen have that spirit.
      I know she was deeply dissapointed when others invested less energy in achieving this mutual goal.
      And I do not know her as a person, so I cannot say anything about other aspects of her character.

    • @rientsdijkstra4266
      @rientsdijkstra4266 Před 2 lety +1

      @@dutchman7623 Of course it is not a shame to want to be the best. But the examples you list above are (top) athletes. And sports is actually all about that: being better then the other guy or girl. But singing is not a sport (there is exactly your mistake) Singing is an artform (!). When I listen to a singer I want to hear something that is either beautiful, or that grabs my soul, or makes my feel emotions, or ideally: all of those together, as is often the case with Floor Jansen.
      And that is exactly why many more average singers do not grab me: they are trying to hard be the best (because they think that that is what is about). But I do not care whether the person who is singing is "the best", I only care what she sings, how she sings it and what feeling that gives me, and I do not give one shite about whether there is some other jojo that is "better" (how do you measure that).. That is exactly what makes Floor Jansen so special: she is one of the best singers out there, but she shows very little ego in what she sings, she just cares about the emotion and the feeling of what she is doing (she really feels the song, as many have said). She's not even trying to be "the best".
      And paradoxically it is exactly that that makes her so much better than other more averages singers, where I often get the feeling: "Yes..., you have proven that you can sing, really loud, high, ... etc." Now I am bored. Been there, done that... yawn...
      So that makes singing a very paradoxical activity: you can only be the best by not even wanting to be the best. Singing is NOT sports.

    I actually like that your review starts off with the opening conversation before the performance, as well as showing a little bit of Samantha‘s performance of the song. Not enough people talk about her version and how great it was. She’s an excellent singer in her own right . She actually deserves more of her own reactions by coaches as well. So thank you for that mini analysis that you gave her at the beginning.

      If Samantha would sing with a good orchestra behind her, she would reach much higher levels.
      She surely noticed that going fully into a song, not holding back, can be great.

    I always love hearing Floor sing this song, because it is in Dutch and she has the same accent as me, with the soft Southern G 🙂 You don't hear a lot of soft G's on Dutch television either because it's all Western Dutch accents on tv. It reminds me that Floor is from my region and I'm proud of that 😊😊

    Hi, thanks for your reaction.
    What I like about Floor is; that she is able to express feelings/emotion in different languages that she sings. Even in the languages that she doesn't speak.
    Like Floor sang in De Beste Zangers in different languages she was able to express it.
    Yes, it's a special genre in The Netherlands Het Levenslied. The songs are always about Life stories/experiences.
    Warm greetings from The Netherlands 👍💜🍀🤘🇳🇱🌷🤗

    Samantha Steenwijk wrote this song when she was struggling with 'love'. She married but discovered she longed for something else.
    She cared for her husband but didn't find the happiness in the relation she hoped for. The struggle of feelings she had, made her to reconsider her life. She divorced her husband and started a relation with a woman. A difficult step, with a lot of problems, but for her it was the correct choice. She married her new love and was finally happy.
    The song is a call from a distance, without getting in real contact with her mother, asking herself what would my mother say, what would she tell me, how to go on? She was alone at first in her struggle, and only after making the decision she could talk about it.

    The north has a much harder G sound like they are scraping the throat to clear it.

    I love this song and Floor's performance of it so much. The "kan niet slapen, kan niet lachen, het niet laten" bit always reminds me a bit of Jacques Brel. Maybe partly because he sings in Flemish sometimes, but also that very raw emotional, almost more like talking/shouting-instead-of-singing feel to it.

      just like in the netherlands. I slightly disagree since Nightwish is way more known over here. At least Germany has a metal scene that plays a role. The Scorpions appeared on german television (main channel big eurovision show) with Tarja when she was still part of Nightwish. That is something that would not necessarily happen in the NEtherlands before beste zangers!

    I'm not a fan of the "levenslied" genre, but if you want to do one from Beste Zangers also: Henk did one for Samantha, "Wees zuinig op mijn meissie". His tone there fits the genre perfectly. It's a lot of resounding singing. And although it's not exactly my style, if I'm at a bar with a good beer in front of me (and several inside me) it's nice to sing along ... -:)

    I think it's pretty impressive that Floor can sing, and enunciate, in several different languages. Just taking English as an example, there's a lot of things you need to think about in terms of how you want to approach the vowels, creating space where it makes sense, and just the way certain words and syllables sound one after another. But then to be able to do that in more than one language? Yikes. Seems like something a lot of singers wouldn't even attempt.

    The more interesting bit to me, was that she sang in Dutch. Afaik she never had done that.. Her soft ‘g’ , native to the South of the Netherlands shone through in a great, personal way too. Took off the rather harsh edge tnat Dutch tends to have. She even made me reconsider my deeply ingeained hatred for “Het Levenslied” ( song of life) for their utter banality and exploitative nature, and I have started to appreciate some Dutch-language music. Floor gave it the ‘Floor-sauce” .. and everything changed. And Karsu’s variation on a song in dutch dialect in tne latest show had me in stitches. A ao g.. in dialect.. that I despise even more ( self-hatred, much?? 🤣🤣 )
