1960s Buddy L U S Mail Van Restoration

  • My Aunt and Uncle picked this 1960s Buddy L United Stated Postal Service U.S. Mail Van up from an antique store July of 2020. It was in definite need of restoration. The plastic chassis was broken, one rear door was missing, the seat was broken off and missing and overall just needed much love. During the restoration process my buffing wheel caught the windshield and due to having no time to get a replacement it forced me to create a vacuum formed windshield. I was not real happy with how it turned out however I was very happy with the quality being I have never vacuum formed anything before. The only other thing that I wasn't really happy about was my Powder coat lines. They were not as straight as I wanted them, but for only being my second ever multi color powder coat job I was happy with the progress. Let me know in the comments what you think of the video!! Thanks for watching!

I always get a chuckle seeing the sheep in odd places, like in the window of the crane. I swear I heard the one yell "Wheeeee!" as you blew it out the window of the mail truck. I come for the sheep but stay for the well done restoration. I loved the mail delivery at the end!

i love when you attempt to re-fabricate, instead of just buying replacements. but I understand that it saves you time. As long as the sheep are happy, i'm happy.

Hi! My name is Luke and I am 3 years old (mom is writing this because I can barely talk, much less type).
We watch your videos and they really help me relax and calm down after busy days of being a toddler. My mom knows a bit about cars so she tells me about the parts and the tools that you use. I absolutely love seeing how you make old vehicles new again. Thank you so much for making videos that I can watch and learn from that don’t overwhelm me. We love you!

I had this job for real just a few months ago. We had a contract with the US POSTAL SERVICE. WE REFURBISHED 4TRUCKS PER WEEK. THEY HAD 450 TRUCKS FOR US TO DO. THAT IS HARD WORK.

I wish I had money to donate for any of the owners want to donate some of their finished work to some transport museums. These are great works for museum exhibits.

I love the whimsy of the cute little sheep. I enjoy when they show up in the vehicles, and get removed in unique ways, then say, "I'm okay". I love when they get put into completed vehicles, though it happens only rarely. I think the one eyed sheep, and the one who wore the cowboy hat on one video, are my favorites.

Oh, how I love that mail truck. I would have been the kid who made bags of teeny tiny letters and parcels and then set up buildings/houses out of shoe boxes and such, and the spent the day delivering the mail ...... and yes, at least one of the houses would have had a dog or two in the yard ...... I had lots of little Steiff dogs and plastic animals.

Glue is a nightmare for plastics. Hot glue is nice but obviously has its downsides. Honestly a little sanding to rough it up and some high strength epoxy will do wonders. Assuming it doesn’t get hot enough to ruin your project of course.
