God Eater is such a strange game. Playing something like Monster Hunter without the need for friends was pretty neat for edgy 15 year old me. Also I have absolutely no recollection of how I actually found out about the game. I feel like it just materialized itself onto my PSP at some point. - Hry
Hey, so this video's revenue is (partially?) claimed by "LatinAutorPerf", because I had the audacity to use the Donna Burke song that plays IN THE VIDEO GAME.
That is kinda annoying but since there is not much I can do about it, I would very much appreciate it, if you could like, comment, subscribe, you know all that CZcams stuff. Really helps me stay motivated

Have you played ULTRAKILL? I'd recommend it.
Yeah LatinAutorPerf is infamous for making fake copyright claims, you should find a way to contest it

Calling it a clone is an insult. All of GE's mechanics make it stand out on its own. This is someone who's been playing both MH and GE since their very first releases.
"Anime Monster Hunter" definition has always confused me because Monster Hunter itself is pretty damn anime.
Yes
For some God forsaken reason there's a loud minority in the playerbase that likes to pretend Monster Hunter doesn't have anything to do with anime. They're the same people who shun "anime weapons" like the Switch Axe and the Charge Blade, and "anime moves" like the longsword's helm splitter. For some reason they decide to completely ignore the symbiotic relationship MonHun has had with anime and over the top fantasy in general for the entirety of the franchise's existence.
Honestly, I know that Monster Hunter "veterans" don't need their elitism to be aided by logic, but it still irks me everytime I see someone like that.
@@Erick-tv8oqThese "veterans" are so annoying most of them i found started with tri or something anyway while I'm sitting here started with freedom on psp and think the franchise got better and better, while they shit on these games for sometimes minor reasons.
@brotbrotsen1100 meanwhile as a kid I always assumed mh was 3d anime because it came from Japan lol.
Is this a FU thing? Because I feel the same way@@brotbrotsen1100
Don't forget the Soulsborn game in the franchise 'Code Vein'
I've been thinking about playing Code Vein, they even have some Aragami in the DLC
@@ramaron those dlc aragami man
the developers were making equal dragon weapons 0_0
@@ramaronI also has a very special scene near the end of the main game
Fighting flame element Hannibal in Code Vein is lit.
Wait, Code vein is part of the god eater universe? I never played it
The moment I heard the music while watching Demon Slayer I had that feeling of "Holy shit, this sounds like God Eater."
Then I searched up the composer, and I just realized that I've been a fan of Go Shiina for decades.
Yeah, he does great work
I believe they were both animated by the same studio as well, Ufotable
I NEED MY GOD EATER 4
Agreed.
SAME!
Or Code Vein 2
As long as they go back to a more grounded style similar to Resurrection I'm down for it. Didnt like GE3 that much tbh.. Seemed too childish compared to the previous ones
Same. Bring back predator arts PLEASE
@@yamnbam4346 YES
Rage arts were cool, don't get me wrong, but I feel like from GE2 to GE3 it strays too much towards the generic anime shit we usually get, and away from that GodEater feel we had in Burst/Resu
god eater burst Difficulty 10 got me like that Vietnam ptsd
when you think you're big shit and used to the game but game said "how about difficulty 10 mission where you have to do it alone" no ai to help
Up to difficulty 12 in GE Resurrection 😁
Before playing god eater 2 i must note that God Eater 2 Rage Burst is made before resurrection which uses the same engine
So the game may feel a bit slower in comparison and there is no predator styles (which a lot of people complained without knowing that Rage Burst was made first)
On a different note, glad to see more people getting into the series it's a genuinely fun series but like you said it's overshadowed by monster hunter and is generally called a clone despite it being more than just a clone
And I very much agree with the discussion on its music, God Eater series has one of the best video game soundtracks ever (though 3 definitely isn't as good after playing 1 and 2)
and not to forget the anime, which had its own band, just for the soundtrack.
Imo just the "Don't run away from living" makes the Lindow arc so much worth it
Besides I think It's a good narrative thanks to making the main character have some... character
Like, this time, he's not in the sidelines playing the part of simply being the captain, he gets injured, he gets angry, he takes risks and his hero complex is confronted by Ren and Lindow acts as a perfect response to Johannes.
Johannes would rather sacrifice the meek for the sake of the strong, whereas Lindow thought the strong is ought to sacrifice themselves to protect those who are weaker than them
Is such a great parallelism and a great way to highlight the heroism in the protagonists mindset of '"no sacrifices, everyone is coming back"
And to keep in mind everyone worked their ass to make it work. The captain put his neck really deep into the jaws of death to pull window out, during the resurrection ark the protagonist almost gets decapitated by the aragami if it wasn't for the squad. Hell I love to think that the reason he developed that mentality is because the protagonist legitimately cannot handle loss very well. We the player end up loving the cast so seeing them give their lives up to save us hurts.
Johannes kinda has to keep that mentality because his goal is to trigger the apocalypse immediately while humans are still around and then repopulate the planet, starting with people who have the necessary skills to rebuild civilization, but that requires leaving less capable ones to die. From *that* perspective, he's objectively right even if it's messed up, his hands are tied.
It's more a matter of whether they should give up and focus on picking up the pieces afterwards or stand their ground and fight for a slim chance of victory.
man, i really really like what they did in 1. everytime i walked past the church, i instnatly remembered lindow and how he was trapped and "killed".
to him being the captain, the fan favorite, to be killed and turned into something else is great
There is A good amount of Violence... and a Delectable Song list.
It's awesome to see people bringing attention to the series. Real shame it flew under so many radars, as it's an absolute favorite of mine :/
God Eater to Monster Hunter is what Dragon's Dogma is to the Dark Souls trilogy.
yeah no, that comparison doesn't work with those two games at all considering the gameplay and tone of DD.
I'd consider DD being closer to MH before DS
Comparing Dragon's Dogma to DS is like comparing Skyrim to DS, they're very different. First, in DD, most classes DON'T have a dodge roll, the game based on your party, build and positioning, and it's not a hardcore game where you need to try and try again to beat a boss either. It's more akin to Dragon Age, and Skyrim
What? Are you dumb because DD was basically a prototype for 4th gen monster hunter and dmc lite
There is more electric guitar in Dragons dogma and God eater than Monster Hunter and dark souls
I love all four games
I played 1,2,3 and Code Vein. I enjoyed this series. I wonder if a 4th installment is in the works
Seeing as BanNam celebrated the series' 15th anniversary, I wouldn't say it isn't.

it's strange how obscure GE went within the hunting games when it's probably the best and the most succesful MH variant...
When compared with their respective generations, GE was designed to be the more compact and faster guy; A hunt in GE could average around 5-8 min, in contrast to MH's 20-30mins search and hunt...
I will always be a God eater over a monster hunter... it was only until Worldborne and Risebreak that I finally manage to sink into hunting.
MH WorldBorne would be the definitive Monster Hunting experience, but I will always keep God eater as my favorite junkfood that I would bring in my bag everywhere I go.
one thing I would always giggle about is how MH onlys celebrate with the followers system in sunbreak, when GE had it since the very beginning...
God Eater is definitely among the best, but I also feel like Toukiden was pretty decent as well.
@@sethhancock40YESS, FINALLY SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT TOUKIDEN! (Or maybe it has always been a topic and I haven't been too deep in the internet)
a junkfood that is fcking tasty asf. even if i like mh so much more, i was still very very pumped to see the anime. and after they showed the gang again, with that marvelous ost, i was hyped like a madman
Yo, God Eater vid? Hype!
Also fun fact, Kanon being a terrible shot is actually, um, canon. She’s got a whole subplot about it.
The series actually does a really good job at making the party members behave in unique ways that match their story and personality. For example, Alisa starts out aloof and standoffish, and so won’t even fire Link Bullets at first. It’s only after she grows as a character that she begins doing so.
God Eater was also one of the very first MH like Games, with the only other one of that time period i can remember being Lords of Arcana
Soul Sacrifice is the best gameplay loop the system around risk an post death in hunts is beautiful
Oh this unlocked a really faint memory, I feel like I have played that game before
Lord of Arcana and then its sequel Lord of Apocalypse(JP only) was also very good. In Apocalypse, you can bring AI companions like on God Eater.
I have that game still 😂
@@senritsujumpsuit6021yep I have Delta on vita still
The bullet crafting mechanic is insane! I spent hours customising my fancy homing laser atomic bombs that I run empty in 3 shots 😂
God Eater is what got me in to Monster Hunter.
Phym is precious.
Phym IS precious. Must protect that smile. My only regret about God Eater 3, is that I never got to reduce Inukai to a smoking grease stain personally.
I'm not a fan of sudden child party members, nor am I a fan of parenthood being forced upon me without a say in the matter, so when the mission forces me to have her initially, I'm annoyed because that's irresponsible, even if she's powerful.
So I immediately wanted to throw her out of the fuckin' Den. Just because a character can be cute doesn't excuse their ability to do incredibly stupid things or to be unwanted. I just wanted to not be someone's fuckin' dad at like...15+ years of age when I literally STOPPED BEING A SLAVE like a week before!
That's going from being a corporate slave to being a slave to a literal monster.
@@JudgeMagisterSnowyeah phym is awful. Do not care for her character arc whatsoever and can't stand hearing grown women voice act toddlers lmao

ive owned the steam version of all 3 god eater games for years due to steam sales without playing them... but now i feel convinced to try the series again!
That opening animation and song is still 🔥🔥🔥
The anime OST wack inject the moody angst
IMHO GE: Burst version of over the clouds is better a bit less skrillex but still plenty 10/10
not to forget the intro song of 2, and also the ost of the anime. such bangers
Brings back tonnes of memories and 神々の食卓 still slaps in 2024
Great video and I 100% share the enthusiasm on the soundtrack. This is one of my favorite franchises ever, I wish they would continue making these games.
God Eater also had the follower system before it was cool.
You unlock more allies on the story, you take them on missions, you do their side quests and they get stronger.
Ah my old friend that made my childhood so much more bearable.
Im still upset the predator mode was kept to ONLY resurrection.
I will never forget the moment when I was excited that kanon was able to be added to the party and then immediately regretting my decisions during every mission. Also the osts in this game are fucking masterpieces
each BGM you played here hits a different nostalgia bone
edit: god's table was my favorite, the fact that THAT part plays at the start of the mission and the chanting my god
"She's 15" umm actually, she's 13. God Eater was released in 2011, it's 2024, so she's only been alive for 13 years... oh wait, did I just say alive? Ah, sorry, I meant to say that she's not a real human with rights and feelings, so she doesn't havr an actual age. The character was invented 13 years ago* there.
Fun Fact, the Cell Saga in Dragon Ball was about a group of muscled warriors bullying a genetically modified toddler (who wants to eat everyone and blow up Earth). :)
Killin da babies. No wonder Dragonball took off in the West.
Its quite surprising how YT has slowly been alowing the algorythm to push out smaller chanels in the users interest fields. @@Mondoness tbh I stopped using Blood Rage after post game and got fully built. Unless like, it was against the Crimson Orochi because of how much of a damage sponge it is. Long Blade/Sniper/Tower I wasnt made for dps xD
God Eater was by far my favorite MonHun clone. I feel like they took the formula and actually delivered something unique with it. Like a story focused MH, with a bunch melodramatic anime tropes. It was perfect. I hope to see the franchise come back eventually.
you deserve more subs
The Playstation Portable music listening on the School Bus was a core memory unlock.
Even after more than a decade, the OST still holds up as maybe something people will see as "experimental" but nonetheless memorable. Go Shiina really COOKED HARD for this game ngl
The crazy cracked Bullet editor player will always be the goat that carries you in the game.
Most of my experience is with God Eater 3 on Switch, but I've NG+'ed the game twice and love the hell out of it. Also, props to you for being a fellow Pokke enjoyer.
Oh and don't forget that Code Vein takes place in the same setting! Enough that I have an hour and change long video talking about that game! So I'm really glad to see people giving some love to one of my favorite Knockoff(Affectionate) Franchises
Fuking hate this use of knockoff people still bitch that platform fighters exist beyond one game
Dude thats like a MAJOR Spoiler for Code Vein. Thats only revealed close to the End and may go over your head if you never played God Eater.
@@dogwithsunglasses4051 Its not a major spoiler since its pretty minor to the actual story.
@@AC-dk4fp World A is the same as World B is the basis of some of the most important Twists of all time. Just because its not explored in Code Vein doesnt mean thats not important. If ever a God Eater 4 or Code Vein 2 comes around, its an essential part of the Universe now.
@@dogwithsunglasses4051 If you see the world through the eyes of the characters the meaning is very different though. For the Revenants the connection is a shock of the unknown while for a player who's played both its an act of recognition and understanding.
From the way that nobody in GE2 or 3 seems to be aware about the birth of a new moon Goddess during the first game with even the characters who saw it first hand only referencing it with a wink I don't put a lot of interest into the developer's interest in that sort of connected story telling.
i remember playing god eater burst for the first time on my psp during elementary and it honestly took my breath away. i became obsessed with it, from the lore, to the gameplay, everything. and i still hope that there will be another god eater released but it's unlikely.
Solid editing, as always.
I swear, this game is memorable. I remember the first encounter with the Hannibal. It has its own battle theme and a menacing theme too. The moment I saw that thing draws those flaming blades , dances around like wolverine in X-men.
We got wipeout in seconds. There are some really good fights with its other versions too.
What really sold me is the customization of Oracle bullets. From changing the type of Ammo to altering its trajectory and detonation variants.
played a ton of these games back in a day, god eater, toukiden but mostly of course monster hunter. but still a ton of fun to play with friends. battle is much more fast pace compared to mh games and the story is pretty simple but the post apocalyptic setting is nice, just a bit lacking in map (and monster/aragami) variety. over all, still a fun game if u just want to grind or smack some big monsters. The god eater anime, is actually good too. btw great video man!
Damn. Toukiden deserves a port or sequel to PC or current consoles
@@Davorox1 there is toukiden 2 but sadly the series ends there. the dev behind toukiden kctecmo still tried with wild hearts but unfortunately did not do very well to compete with monster hunter, i love monster hunter but it would also be nice to other devs to compete with it and do well.
something about the ge1 maps is special (or maybe its the sound design)
its kinda unnerving being there when you dont fight, but also calm. eerie and mysterious (the monster design isnt helping), like a storm is brewing. and seeing a big building with a whole in it, my mind as a kid went into many things as to why its like that.
anyway, the anime is god damn great. the ending of episode 5 still lingers in my head. with the ost of that child singing and the loss of characters. fantastic
I KNOW THAT ARAGAMI ANYWHERE dude i was stupid hype for this when i was 11 yrs old. i used to watch trailers and gameplay that was all in Japanese and didnt know a lick of info but the idea of gun swords becomes the enemy we fight is so freaking cool i used to stay up all night in middle school playing this game im so surprised someone talked about it.
As somèone who has liked the series for a long time, i always find joy when other people discover and enjoy this series. MH really does over shadow the series but I find GE to be a very cozy corner that i always enjoy going back to.
Im happy that more people talk about god eater, its a great franchise
Thank you so much for covering this game. And thank you SO much for talking about the OST for like half your video. I keep on rambling about it to others how phenomenal it is but noone fucking knows what I'm talking about xD Wont stop me though.
Well I am glad to hear that I am not the only one
The sound clipping is prolly a dubbed problem cuz I played it on original voice and found no issues as such.
It's good that you found a game like this but sadly there won't be any more of it since God Eater 3 was so bad that it killed the franchise.
I have not played Flipwitch, but it's soundtrack has managed to permeate my CZcams algorithm. Absolute bangers.
YOOOO, I KNEW I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE. GOD'S FEAST (TABLE) GOES HARD MAN.
Man, I remember spending copious amounts of time on bullet crafting.
I always have a better than basic budget bullet than can be spammed, a 5-shot (at most) that can hit multiple small individuals or body parts (for huge enemies), and a single-shot nuke.
"Gunner" playthroughs were challenging at high difficulties
I have good memories of the first two games on PC, even 3 was fun but a hell of a short game.
But since I moved to MH, I could never came back to God Eater with the same enthusiasm even after several tries. I feel sad about it because I like them, but its the true to me.
Same here. As much as I like having a miniature gore dragon take come out of my sword to take chunks out of my enemies, the combat is not nearly as polished as in Monster Hunter and there aren't nearly enough weapons in the game for me to keep my interest.
Thanks for making this, I bought GE Reburst for psp so long ago back when I was in highschool so God Eater is one of those nostalgic franchises to me. I have tried Monster Hunter so many times but it never really clicked for me, the slow attacks and lack of story and characters in those game turned me off and then I saw GE Reburst on amazon with it's cool as hell cover of the guy wielding the saw blade, that I mistook as a giant chainsaw, fighting Hannible, this amazing looking monster and the rest was history, I love the story and characters WITH full voiced cutscenes which on the psp is amazing and gameplay for being fast paced and really sold the feeling of being a super powered hunter. Really need to finish the 3rd story arc for resurrection though, XP
If you haven't played Monster Hunter World or Rise you should definitely try them. They are a lot more fast paced than the PSP era games

It's so liberating to have one of my favorite franchises seen on the internet and get the recognition it deserves. 100% would love to see a video on God Eater 2: Rage Burst on PC, since that's somehow an even more schizophrenic game than this one. God Eater but just more God Eater. Easily my favorite in the series.
I started playing the game a couple days ago and oh boy you weren't lying
Definitely my favorite of the three main games, it's a gift that keeps on giving, have fun with it!
This video is nostalgic and after complete the story i almost crying because of the soundtrack (In a Pool of Sunshine)
I remember playing the first game and vibing to "Over the Clouds."
God Eater's music is indeed amazing! You mentioned likely playing the 2nd game, the 2nd game is super long and has a lot of story and not talking to NPCs after missions that progress story will let you miss small developments and really fun side stories. Hearing about a certain someone's likes and dislikes of the female anatomy with dramatic music was always really cheesy and funny. Kannon finally finds a use for her friendly fire too in a really funny way if you do her side story.
Also I remember absolutely falling in love with Butterflies Invitation from God Eater 2's OST along with a few others. I agree with the made up chanting soundtracks being amazing.
games and anime had such fantastic soundtracks
Ooo! Just bought this game today..was going in blind..but now I get a sneaky peak! Can't play it till my internet is back on, (the endless data plan for the house/games, not my phone)..I can't wait!😊
You described how I got into god eater to a T, from freedom unite to god eater and I must say I do love god eater, I played 2 and enjoyed that too, I didn't start 3 because I put it off until I did 2s after story and have been thinking I should finish that recently because it is fun. I do like that resurrection changed combat in god eater 1 up a bit with more devour attacks, it reached the point where I almost exclusively fight with devour attacks on resurrection and it's fun, can quite do the same in the original or god eater 2 but 2 has more customisable weapon combos which is a nice spin on things. Honestly a great franchise because they took MH and changed it enough to be able to appreciate it for it's own gameplay elements.
If you have a Vita lying around, I would definitely recommend checking out Soul Sacrifice (specifically the Delta version), since it's legitimately one of the best games of the generation in terms of story, aesthetics, music, voice acting, lore, gameplay, etc..., which is a weird thing to say about an arcadey arena hunter game made with the assistance of the 2 studios behind Senran Kagura and Mighty No. 9.
IIRC, it even has a God Eater guest boss (also a Freedom Wars guest boss, and that's also a great game that flew under the radar because of Sony's terrible marketing for the Vita).
I'm so glad I have this game. First baight th original on sale on my ps vita and had no idea how awesome this game is! Hands down one of my fave games ever
Played this game years ago and it was a lot of fun
You better make videos on the 2 and 3 game. I myself came back to God Eater 3 NG+ a couple days ago and I would like your take on it. Good video bro, suscribed
That Sseth reference came out of NOWHERE
Fighting the Dyaus Pita while "No Way Back" played was a fantastic experience
Will most definitely choose this game over monster hunter any day. Loved it so damn much I wish I could still play it
I've played GE Resurrection and GE 2 Rage Burst, and I absolutely love the bullet system! I did use recipies from the wiki, and that very quickly became the focus of my hit & run playstyle. I haven’t played GE3 yet because I heard they really nerfed the bullet system.
However, something I really appreciate is the ticket system that allows you to get parts you need for upgrades without having to endlessly grind for a rare drop if you have a bunch saved up.
Over the Clouds, my beloved
God eater has held quite the place in my heart since I played 3 not having any idea about the series and have been hooked since. There’s so many ways to play with the weapon and gun choices. The lore and world feels believable and if something doesn’t make sense you can find how everything works, from how god arcs came to be as large and seemingly impractical as they are. The development of god eaters from the original god eater to the old types to the new types, blood to AGEs it’s all there in the libraries of each game and if you don’t care about these extra bits the games don’t try to bog you down with long cutscenes trying to explain every little thing.
I feel the same way they just need a little more budget and to give some aragami more health.
Kanon's friendly fire isn't an accident, in spite of her described role as medic, she has extreme tunnel vision for shooting aragami. Resurrection doesn't do her infamy proper justice as the AP system lets you customize your allies to use healing bullets and adds some free extra new types to the roster, during Burst there are several stretches of story missions where Kanon is your only reliable medic. But since she also deals very high damage with her weapon, Kanon is both infamous and something of a fan favorite.
FOAMING AT THE MOUTH FOR GOD EATER 4
hearing a reference to SCGMD3 hit so hard for no reason. I no lifed that game when i was a kid
I still listen to Nobody Else by Noise Pollution like every other week
I picked this game up back in the day and got hyped because it had a legit story. None of my friends would buy it because it would just cut into our time grinding MHFU (which is in fact the greatest game ever made), so it having AI party members was pretty cool for me. I really liked the characters around the base too. I never did get far enough into GE2 to find out if Tatsumi O'Mori survived after his team went missing. I hope he did, his crush on the dispatch girl was too cute.
God Eater was the best of the MH clones. When I wasnt playing MH, I was playing God Eater. It was genuinely a good series with its own unique elements.
Shame that it seems that its finally dead now but in a world where MH exists, God Eater put a hell of a fight.
This is definitely one of the games ever made.
Tf you mean clone? MH IS A GOD EATER CLONE
For the portable games that might as well be true for the past few years
ok
Glad the series is getting attention from content creators cause Bamco hasn’t given the west a game since God Eater 3/Code Vein which is like 5 years and continuing at this point
I feel like the biggest issue with it being Res you're playing instead of Burst is you're missing out on when the game was a bit more off the wall. Res while accessible natively also comes with some neutered and adjusted mechanics considering it was building on 2, bullet customization feels like it's at its worst and devour styles just feel kinda tacked on. Also it has some tie-ins with the anime which kinda was a mess alongside changing the story a bit. That said the graphical leap is nice but i don't know full well it can be called complete, i haven't compared the mission list but tmk some of the old downloadable quests are gone (though to be fair you'd be hard pressed to find them anywhere now). That said good video and it's lovely top hear anyone mention this series.
God Eater was my favorite game for the PSP when I was a kid(of course being a kid those end game challenge missions were kinda trauma inducing XD), loved the music especially [God and Man] though I remember hating [God's Table] for some reason but I think its because that particular music was tied to a mission I kept failing so having to listen to it over and over again whilst failing probably irritated the shit out of me XD
you mean the one with dyaus pita, prithvi matha, and chi-yous?
@@vulnerablerummy not sure, but I can see it, that lineup will defo traumatize kid me XD
Would love to see vids on the sequels! I'm not too much up on the games, but I did like the anime for what it was... interesting on how much changed between that story and the story of the game.
