My husband and I grew up dispensational and didn't know there was a name for it or any other options.
Reading Scripture was so confusing back then haha then we discovered Reformed theology online!
My husband has read a lot of books on eschatology and most of it goes over my head. He went from dispensational to amil and partial preterist.
From my limited understanding I lean toward historic premil or amil but don't know enough and just listen to my husband as best I can. ❤

I had no clue what Calvinism was and was a non denominational “Christian” I was asleep for so long walking a life of death and hearing reformed preachers got me into the Bible. Through that I was granted true repentance and salvation being born again. I would say keep the name so that people like me will see your ministry and learn about Calvinism and therefore the gospel.

Quite providential you dropped this today. Last Sunday we did Mark 13:24-34 in Sunday School and you can't go through that without thinking about all these perspectives. But I like where the teacher went and it was where I would have were I called on to teach it: I see no command in Mark 13 to try and figure out the order and timing of all these events. The commands I do see are to be watchful and faithful. I believe the Lord is pointing ahead to his last commands at His ascension in the passage.

I think Keith Foskey Show is a winner, for all of the reasons you stated.
While you're editing the handout, look at this phrase: "However, there is not a necessarily parallel" When you read it, you read it the way it should be, how you intended to write it, "However, there is not necessarily a parallel"
An odd thing about our brains is that we usually read things the way we intended, not necessarily the way we wrote them. This is why it's always good to have someone other than ourselves proofread what we write...
    Enjoyed this as always!

Keith: Whatever name you choose, I think it will be ok.
Being Arminian, "Conversations with a Calvinist" was the very thing that caught my attention and made me subscribe immediately.
Sounded like being invited to a conversation instead of a debate.
But... you talk about a lot more than Calvinism so, a name change may be in order.
Finally, I love the way you impersonate us, Pentecostals, in your interdenominational meetings. Not 100% accurate, in my opinion but, very close, veeeeeeeery close... Bring more of that. Hehe!

Pastor Keith, that is a great chart. I appreciate you emphasizing both the things we must believe as Christians and the differences that have emerged over time. Many of the folks debating eschatology move too quickly passed the must believes for all Christians and their preferred views of the end times.

Yea. My neighbor is super in to “end times” but when I talk to him about the gospel it’s like he just kind of blows it off.

I was raised in an Amillennialist church. After God saved me and studying Scripture on my own I believe in taking God literally unless it’s obviously not literal, paying strict attention to context. If we consider most of the book of Revelation an allegory, that’s a slippery slope to consider creation simply an allegory, then the flood, then the plaques of Egypt, etc, etc… Finally, since all of the prophesies of Christ’s first coming were literally fulfilled, I trust all prophesies concerning Christ’s second coming will be literal.

Genesis is not history. First 11 chapters is distinguishable from the rest.
Prove the first 11 chps actually happened and aren't just myths (like some of the church fathers believed. BTW, Allegory is way better to intrepreting the 11 chps) Also prove 12-50 also happened historically and aren't just legends and weren't tampered by the editations. Allegory is also better, especially when applying Kierkegaard's treatment of the absurdity of Abraham sacrificing his son, the person who future generations will be blessed through and kill him.

Having grown up a pre-mil dispy, and then finding this position almost untenable with a reformed view of scripture, I decided to become a-mil after hearing one of the Ligonier fellows define it as, "the foyer where you wait until you decide which (pre- or post-mil) door you want to go in." But the more time I spend in the foyer, the more I find it to fit both special and natural revelation. Thanks for your brief discussion of this issue (which tended to support my status in the foyer).

I've felt that partial-preterism and futurism are both accurate (AKA the "I've heard it both ways" or Psych Eschatology view), similar to how for instance Isaiah prophesied with double referents concerning the sign of Immanuel in Isaiah 7:14, which is in part fulfilled in his day and ultimately fulfilled in Christ. It makes sense then that God also provided John with signs for John's day while also giving us the expectation of prophecy's ultimate fulfillment in Christ and his second coming.

I also have never heard any of these views. I came from a backround that only taught of a pretribulation rapture. John Mccarthurs teaching had a huge role in all churches I went to. I always had a hard time with his teaching on end times and didnt know there was any other view. But i also never cared to learn. In just the last 6 months God has put it on my heart to study end times. I have a question about amillennialism. If that veiw believes we are in the millennial reign now, then how do we deal with rev. 20:3? I think we could all agree as christians that satan is still decieving the nations. I sincerely am not trying to pick a fight. I really am trying to learn as much as i can. I am trying to develope my knoweldge so that i can speak confidently about Gods word to others. one thing i have found consitently in the church is that not many christians can agrue why the believe what they believe. If we submit these topics to just the laws of reason and logic, it's pretty easy to sort out the most likely correct paths. The right answers tends to be the simplest answer. Pre-mil is more elaborate and therefore least likely to be correct and a/post mil is simpler and more likely. Then we get to explicit biblical teachings and it only further points towards a/post being the more biblical position. IMO we shouldn't be using one book or one passage to develop a comprehensive understanding of any essential biblical topic. If there isn't more than one verse for support of any position, dogma can't be developed(assuming you're not a papist). The gospels and arguably the prophets offer more clear teaching on the final resurrection than revelation. It should be seen as a true and divinely inspired account, but we should steer clear of reading into its symbolism. Somethings are meant to remain mysterious. Psalm 131.

For what it's worth, Keith, I think you could go either way with the name change. I absolutely appreciate the story and humor behind the name CWAC, however I also appreciate the boldness. You're not trying to hide what you believe. I knew from the very first video of yours I clicked on that while we may not agree on everything we will agree on most things because you do hold those reformation/biblical principles (I am 1689 LBCF). On the other hand there are some videos of yours I wish to share with my family or friends but I don't even bother because I know as soon as they see the word "Calvinist" it's game over. Most of my family and some of my close friends are very much independent fundamentalist dispensationalist baptists so you can only imagine some of the topics that come up. One thing is for sure though, they despise John Calvin and the teachings of Calvinism. My wife and I are essentially deemed heretics by some in our family for holding this so a name change may make your channel more approachable from certain groups.

You mentioned preterism, you put up 2 veiws (full-preterist and partial-Preterist). But there is a 3rd veiw called non-preterist, also known as Reformed Amillennialism (as taught by Kim Riddlebarger, Anthony Hoekema and others). Which seems to me to be the most biblically sound veiw of Amillennialism.

That’s what I thought growing up. I thought the dispy premill view was just “what the Bible said”. Not from reading it myself, it’s just what I was always told.
I also read every book in the Left behind series. It wasnt until I started becoming reformed, and hearing people like Doug Wilson and Jeff durbin talking about postmill that I even learned there were other views.
I don’t know what I am now, but even if I land on premill, it’d be historic premill. But I prefer to have the postmill mindset lol

  • @mbfrommb3699

Part 1/3 I appreciate the video. I have been studying and teaching eschatology for over 30 years and it truly is sad to me to see how messed up the topic has become. I am glad for the video explaining the terms. But the reality is that the LORD has dedicated over 1/3 of the Bible to the 2nd Coming and the outline of it, and there are over 150 chapters in Scripture that mention the 2nd coming event itself, yet there is such confusion. Here's why I have such an issue with all these views there is only 1 truth: GOD will unfold the future 1 way, and so at best only 1 of these man-made views is correct. At worst, they're all wrong. The LORD isn't going to take a poll to see what the majority of Christians view is, and yet He has dedicated a very large portion of His Word to tell us all about it. In fact, regardless of what view you hold many Pastors and Teachers would all agree that how you understand this topic greatly impacts how you understand all of Scripture. So not only does your view on this area affect how you see the world presently and going forward it also affects how you study nd understand Scripture.
Now I'm not going to go on a rant and call a bunch of views as heretical or call this person a false teacher or some crazy thing like that. But I do want to make us all aware of the reality of this topic. We often call the Bible the LORD's love letter to humanity, so when He dedicates over 1/3 of it to this 1 topic and we either get too confused that we ignore it, or it becomes to divisive we ignore it, or it becomes an obsession we cause others to ignore it we become ineffective.
So how do we begin to understand such a weighty topic? First, we have to ask why is it a big deal? Why does the LORD dedicate over 1/3 of Scripture to it? It's because it shows us His victory over death, evil, sin, everything that was wrecked by the fall. His return is the beginning of the end of these things. The message for all ages is that one day all will be made right again. There is an appointed time. A fixed date on the calendar that this will take place and we are to look forward to that day at least with one eye on the now and one eye to that day.
I think the reason there is so much confusion is because there are some simple pieces of the puzzle missing. Now these pieces may not be applicable but I think we need to know them before we rule them out.
For example, did you know that the early Church Fathers and Jews understood that the time of the 2nd Coming and the messianic age would occur in the biblical year 6000?
    Barnabas, AD First Century
“Therefore, children, in six days, or in six thousand years, all the prophecies will be fulfilled. Then it says, ‘He rested on the seventh day.’ This signifies at the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus, He will destroy the Antichrist, judge the ungodly, and change the sun, moon, and stars. Then He will truly rest during the Millennial reign, which is the seventh day.” Epistle of Barnabas 15:7-9
    Commodianus, AD 240
“We will be immortal when the six thousand years are completed.” Against the Gods of the Heathens 35 “Resurrection of the body will be when six thousand years are completed, and after the one thousand years [millennial reign], the world will come to an end.” Against the Gods of the Heathens 80
    Victorinus, AD 240
“Satan will be bound until the thousand years are finished; that is, after the sixth day.” Commentary on Revelation 20.1-3
    Methodius, AD 290
“In the seventh millennium we will be immortal and truly celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.” Ten Virgins 9.1
    Judaism
    www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/607585/jewish/Significance-of-the-year-6000.htm
    www.jewishanswers.org/ask-the-rabbi-category/the-basics-of-judaism/the-messiah/?p=998
All these examples both early Christians and Jews believe in Premillennialism. Does it mean it's right? I don't know but there is history for it a long history since Jews have always taught it.
So the obvious question is when is the biblical year 6000?
We have an extensive biblical calendar
    amazingbibletimeline.com/
This calendar puts Adam and Eve in 4004 BC so simple math adding 2024 from Jesus to now shows we're over 6000 years. But are we?
The Bible doesn't use our Solar Gregorian calendar of 365.25 days per year, it uses a lunar 360 days per year.
    Genesis 7-8
Genesis 7: 11 On the seventeenth day (17th) of the second month (2nd) of the 600th year of Noah’s life all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, Genesis 8: God remembered Noah, every living thing and all the livestock with him in the ark; so God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water began to go down. 2 Also the fountains of the deep and the windows of the sky were stopped, the rain from the sky was restrained, 3 and the water came back from completely covering the earth. It was after 150 days that the water went down. 4 On the seventeenth day (17th) of the seventh month (7th) the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. exactly 5 months from the 17th day of the 2nd month to the 17th day of the 7th month =150 days which means each month was 30 days.
Isaiah 66: And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord. New moon to New moon is 30 days.
(Daniel 9 shows us a 360-day calendar because it shows us the date of the Messiah's death Nisan 32AD) We see Christians put Adam and Eve at 4004 BC. If their years were 360 days per year from Adam to Jesus is 3,946 years and from Jesus to now is 2024 years = 5,970 years. Meaning that the year 6000 could be 2,054 AD.
In Matthew 24 and Mark 13, Jesus says
    Matthew 24:21-22, 29-30 NLT
21 For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. 22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones...29 “Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light,
the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
30 And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Second piece: Jesus will return, the moment prior to humanity causing its own self-extinction. Verse 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved..."
Now regardless of your view (except full preterist) the book of Revelation has a war theme to it.
    Rev 6:3-4, Rev 6:7-8, Rev 9:16-18, Rev 19:19.
Never before the atomic bomb has humanity had the ability to wipe out all of humanity via war. Today we do.
What if this was what Jesus is referring to in Matthew 24:6-7?
6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. 7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world.
People often say we've always had wars! This is true but Jesus uses the word "Kingdoms" which in Daniel 2 refers to world empires. So what if Jesus is not just referring to nations going to war but world empires as well, like NATO vs Russia, US vs China, G7 vs BRICS, etc. What if this was what Jesus meant.
Now I'm not asking you to commit to a specific Escahtological view but let me ask you to consider a what if....? What if Jesus is saying that as we get closer to the 6000th biblical year watch for world empires (Like US and China) to go to war but don't panic. This will not be the end yet. But wars will continue as we see in Revelation and eventually, it'll lead to a war that if allowed would cause humanity's self-extinction but right before that moment Jesus returns.
The question I get is "Why now?" What makes today different than any other? In Part 2 I will answer this question and hopefully, it'll help clear up some confusion.
    (continued in Part 2)
