The variable aperture during zooming is easy to solve: you have to set the aperture to 5.6 or more before you start the video shooting. Then you will have a constant aperture throughout the entire zoom range.
I used to want to sell the 12-60 kit lens when i was fixated about bokeh and fast prime lenses. But i decided to keep it as it is very good and sharp for landscape at f8.0, i use it a lot more now. Very good for a kit lens.
Nice video! I just picked up a new to me 12-60 f3.5-5.6. I haven’t put the lens through its paces, but I believe it’s going to work out just fine. So far, I really love it on my handheld run and gun G9 video set up. The lens coverage gives me all the range I need. When I need the extra light, I just put on one of my f1.8 Olympus primes. Also, the linear focus firmware upgrade makes this lens a joy to use with my Smallrig follow focus. With its weather sealing, this lens is much more than just a “kit” lens.
Completely agree! This is way more than a normal kit lens ;)
Great story! Thinking upgrade from 12-32 , comparing this lens to Oly 12-45 f4 , but after watching this video i think this lens can cover most of my needs in travel while save a lot more money!
Sounds like a good idea ;)
Also remember if you have a Panasonic body with IBIS you won’t get dual IS if you use an Olympus lens.
Thank you for this video! I am currently looking for a good GH5 lense to capture a "total" of a concert in a really dark environment - while the camera is around 30 to 50 meters away from the stage. My idea was to maybe use a speedbooster on my kit-lense (yes, I'm not the smartest guy) - do you have a recommendation for another lens which is fairly good in dark and still very sharp in this range for me - thank you so much =)
Probably this is the best kit for cameras that can make use of the in lens IS, but for Olympus owners IMO the 14-150 is a better option.
It's a good kit lens, I had one. But I hardly ever used it because I also got the 14-140 as a kit lens with another body, and I used it all the time instead of the 12-60. So from my own use perspective the 14-140 has been a better kit lens for me (similar size, weight and quality of images, but with 10x zoom). However if you get the 12-60 it's definitely a good lens.
Sounds like an interesting alternative. Thanks for sharing!
The 14-140 is not weather sealed is it?
@@thatlisteningguy the latest version (from 2019 onwards) is weather sealed. 🙂
Great news! That’s going on my wish list then 😄🙏🏼
Fuji 18-55mm gets my vote
Great review. Would you recommend I return my Lumix 45-150mm for the 12-60mm or keep both?
I'm mostly going to be doing traveling and landscapes.
Thanks! If you can I’d keep both, as the range going from 60 to 150mm is great to have for landscape, and 12-60mm great for cities and towns. They’re both small and lightweight as well ;)
Thank you@@PaulHeimlund
I use the 45mm-150mm for nature and bird photos. You get an equivalent 300mm zoom. It produces sharp and colourful photos fully zoomed out. Keep the lens 🙂
@@kinlungchan you're totally right. I held on to the 45mm-150mm and got the Leica 12-35mm alongside. Both have combined really well as very convenient buddies.
My G9 kit came with Leica 12-60 and it is in another realm to the lumix.
Hi. Will it fit to Panasonic S5 II?
No. This lens fits m43 sensors. The S5 II is full frame…
My copy’s focusing system auto or manual broke after less than 2years of light use. Expensive to fix. Very bad construction.
Upgrade to the leica 12-60 f2.6 - 4
