- West Virginia has fallen on hard times when it comes to the quarterback position, but luckily, Neal Brown has his big time 4 star recruit to hopefully save the day. Today, I am going to introduce you to Nicco Marchiol, we will talk about who he is, the battle with Garrett Greene and why Nicco is the future of the program, enjoy!

I kind of miss WV’s Tavon Austin days. They were known for having small electric players kind of like Oregon in 2010s..

I think under any other circumstance Nicco would be the starter. They would throw him out there this year and allow him to grow. However, Neal Brown has to win, and win NOW! In saying that, I believe GG is more "Game Ready", and will be under center to start the year. LETS GOOOOO!!
Whether it’s Greene or Marchiol, WVU will have a guy behind center that has a will to win. The real concern for Greene is his durability. For Marchiol, we need to see if the game has slowed down.

QB play is easy when you can run the football and time to throw... the OL is the whole key to how successful any QB is.
Honestly I watched the spring game in person Garret was miles ahead and has earned the job but Nicco comming and your right way more upside as my buddy Paul would say GG always hurt be tough for him to go whole season being how small he is !!!

WVU is in a rough spot, kinda do or die for them. If they don't put it together this season, they'll be banished to the B12 cellar for the foreseeable future with Cinci, UCF, BYU coming in already a step or two ahead of them. Unfortunately, I think they're more than a QB away, and as good as Marchiol appears, he's gonna need help.

Marchiol is definitely the better built physically, and whoever is QB is going to have to be able to take some serious hits.
Oline is awesome and they're going to be great ,but a QB has to accept the fact that they're going to be getting hit by BIG 12 defenders and linebackers.

I think GG is going to get the start as it’s the world around town.
I think Wvu is going to be a sleeper team. With CJ Donaldson and whoever the quarterback choice is will make for a nasty run game. Neil Brown is nearly undefeated when his lead rusher has 150+ a game.
Last big time QB wvu recruited was will crest, actually a person while in undergrad but he never developed

I feel ike William Crest was the last big HS QB recruit to wear the gold and blue. Always loved his attitude, but unfortunately it just never worked out like we thought.

Those of us WVU fans that know the history of the Mountaineers are aware of the success they have when they have a duel threat QB. Neal Brown has not ever had a duel threat QB. Therefore he has not been successful. Drop back pocket QB don’t do well in the Big 12. If Garrett can stay healthy, the Mountaineers should go bowling.
I hope we don’t lose Nicco because I believe he can be a good one, but Greene is ready to win now. I love his athleticism and playmaking ability, he has the “it” factor.
Whichever one doesn’t start we will lose the other. I thought Greene looked better.

@@Professional_street_hustler im not worried about the lack of receivers tbh. We are going to be extremely run heavy this year and we have the backfield to do it. If we can play that style of "control" I think we might even shock ourselves this year. I've been let down many times before but like always im typically optimistic this time of year, lol. I hope im right . .

Greene, can win too. Offensive line is going to be very good. Run game will be real good and that will open up pass game! Question is can our defense stop anyone?
O Line is good and always above average . Then we start LOSING and everyone blames the O Line. Most WVU fans better start watching different talking heads that know a little about college FB.

Greene is the better qb he has a underrated arm and is a Pat white kinda player with his legs. That’s the kind of guy that we need
Nicco Marchiol is not ready to start for WVU. He is still a little green in his decision making and is way too inconsistent! Garrett Greene is being vastly slept on. He's ready and has progressed as expected this off-season. Our O-Line is a top 25 unit in the country, we have a stable of talented backs and TE's. Our WR core has pieces, but is unproven. I expect to see a lot of 21 and 22 personnel with the 2 back set looks. Maybe even mix in some 20 personnel.
Defensively we're going to play 9-11 D-Lineman and just rotate them. The question mark is WILL Linebacker, MIKE is locked down along with the SPEAR and SAM positions. The secondary is retooled and finally has the experience and talent needed to compete. I'm not saying we're going to win the BIG 12 or anything because that's unlikely, but this team will be much improved. Nicco is the FUTURE if he sticks around, you never know though with the transfer portal.
Everyone knows Garrett Greene is going to start or at least all indications point to that. He has out played Nicco. We haven't named a starter for 2 reasons! Strategical reasons for PENN ST and if we had already named GG the starter, Nicco may have entered the portal and we need him to be number 2 in case of injury.
The disrespect to Garrett greene is ridiculous.
Brown needs at least eight wins to be saved, I would say more. The fan base wants a new coach. The excitement for WVU is non-existent under brown and West Virginia has had some pretty good quarterbacks Major Harris, Pat White, Jeff hosteatler and Gino Smith.

Nicco still has a ways to go in my opinion.. Greene is by far the better QB as of now but Nicco definitely has a lot of potential.. Greene is definitely injury prone because of his size and mobility, so I'm sure we'll eventually see Nicco on the field sooner rather than later
Im afraid if Nico is not the guy he might transfer. I'd rather make Nico the starter over Green let him develop so that he could be even better next year.
Problem with that is Neal Brown can't afford to develop him..He has to win NOW, or he's gonna be fired.
There is only one problem with that. We as fans have put the pressure on Coach Brown to win next year or get fired. That may force his hand. We need a couple of more cupcakes on our schedule. All the SEC teams play a couple of cupcakes at the beginning of their schedule and another easy one towards the end. Don’t believe me check them out. They are almost guaranteed three to four wins. Our schedule is brutal. The deck is stacked against us.

He didn’t look very good in the spring game. Green has done what no other WV Qb’s has done. He beat OU and OSU in one year.

I fully believe brown would be better off to let GG an Nicco both play this year. Certainly both in Penn St game against that top 10 defense we would clearly know who the starter is by end of game. I also know for sure whoever sits on bench most of year would most likely transfer at seasons end.
I like Nico...but I believe this is Greene's time. ONLY IF WE HAVE HIM RUNNING AN OPTION PACKAGE. You are asking Nico to pass pass pass (even for Greene too). I don't like Neal Brown...who will be calling the plays.
Not much there either than a history lesson on Marchiol. You keep saying Marchiol has potential but do no analysis of where he likely stands in his development. You claim he's the only QB that gives the team a chance at a good season, but you say that without any real analysis of where Greene stands at this point. I seriously doubt that you've taken a close look at both of them, especially in Spring. This was really just a fluff piece.

i mean they had JT DANIELS a proven QB at the highest level and we see where that went......so im asking does it really matter who is at qb if you can't put a team around him that can win i mean lets look at it from the opposite prospective take UGA they had SB at qb but was able to put a team around him and you see what happen in that situation.........So again flip that and take the team away from a good qb and you will not have shit JT DANIELS...............So i ask does it matter if your not putting your qb in a position to win.......

I don't think him or Green is that great their good but not great. They need another White or Smith. But their not going to win a championship with these guys. They definitely aren't NFL quality. Hope thy get a better one in the portal.
I agree with most of what was presented here but I think you are sleeping on Garrett Greene. Both guys are full of moxy but I think right now GG is more game ready.
Neither can WIN with NB as coach but will take the blame for LOSING.

Runner don't win long term just a game here and there. However in WVU case that would be a great improvenent.

He sure did and that was the best era of WVU football. Couple of things the Spread O that RR brought to WVU was new at the time. Steve Slaton was the counter to White. Both were spectacular but the team was a team. No NIL, no I in the word team at that time or Barvis would make sure of that. No head doctors for every 10 players who felt uncomfortable in the environment and needed to talk about their feelings?Today the spread in mostly yesterday news and can work in certain situations. As a basic running QB well you are not going to win many games.

@gregcarver1915 Marshall schedule ranked #105 in nation. Wvu is #3-#5 depending on the poll. Wvu plays 11 power 5 schools. 1 of only 3 schools to play 11 P5 schools. The new marshall, chant is... we are Pop Warner!🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
