I like that you give advice and example about things that can be/go contrary to intentions.

Damn impressive. Takes a lot of practice is an understatement.

I love the electrical tape trick. I've been turning for a few years and never thought of that. My knuckles thank you sir!

When you finish putting on the tape leave an inch free. Turn the free bit over to leave a flap. This will pre-warn you before hitting the chuck.

Roll the tape to drag as the chuck spins.

great job, how do you sharpen your tools, as I can see its super sharp, plus what type of wood is that?

Thanks Chris. I use a CBN 320 grit wheel and I usually hone the skew. That is cherry, one of my favorites.

Great video Joe! As a new turner, I am trying to determine which tools I need to have. I have a couple of AMT tools that I picked up many years ago. They are not the best quality! The skew chisel is a 3/4 “ with a straight edge, not a radius edge like yours. It is also much thinner.
My question is ….. Should I be looking for a straight or radius edge? How wide for just general spindle work? Thank you for any advice you can offer 🤠

Hi Randy, For general work with the skew I like a slightly radiuses edge, because I peel a lot, and the slightly curved edge helps keep the long point and short point from scarring the work on a delicate peel. You make the edge curved when sharpening. I think 3/4 or 1 inch is a good size. Take care.
