    This is my first video and I wasn't at all serious about it myself. It was just goofing around with the voice cloner, obviously there's a lot of issues you could point out there and then and if I had to remake one now it'd be a lot better, but hey let's just enjoy it (or not).

    • @leonardobarbosa7825
      @leonardobarbosa7825 Před 6 měsíci

      I believe he is refering to the Queen Consort, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon aka the Queen Mother. As Elizabeth was still the heiress presumptive in 1945, she would be referred as "Her Royal Highness", not "Her Majesty". That style of address was reserved for ther mother and her grandmother, Queen Mary. The King, if still alive (I never played the game so it's just assumption on my part), could have ordered the rest of the Royal Family to be evacuated to Canada and stayed behind to sign the surrender, as I believe the Nazis would have demanded.
      But... it's alternate History, so he could be refering to the late Elizabeth II anyways. This is fiction.

      Not to me. It sounds like someone who is definitely not Montgomery, maybe not even British, reading too quickly off a page with little expression. The beginning isn't too bad but the middle and end just aren't even close. Maybe the technology will get better in the near future. There are a lot more than just tone that goes into what a person sounds like. Maybe soon things like cadence, diction, timing, etc will be implemented and improved upon.

      Most Yanks think that an English accent is and English accent they do not appeciate that for such a small country England has a huge range of local dialects as well as those that reflect a persons social class. These tend to be very obvious to the English ear. Monty wasn't any different his English accent reflected his colonial childhood as well as his membership as a young man of the Edwardian military officer corps. @shen4379 Nearly every single thing apart of the lore I have an issue with. Let's go through every English leader and tell you my problem with them.
      Macmillian: Shouldn't be a collab leader. Man openly stated he'd fight with a communists to combat Facism and was on a list of politicians that Germany would "imprison" (read killed) if they ever invaded the UK. There's no way Macmillian should be alive and if he was, he'd certainly be a memeber of HMMLR.
      Margaret Thatcher: Horrible blackwashing of her character, she wasn't some authoritarian dictator who wanted to restore the British empire, her OTL rhetoric also wouldn't appeal to anyone in the 60s. She simply comes far too early to become a viable candidate fot prime minister. Also, the woman who donated a crap ton to save a Jewish family in World War 2 and someone who opposed German reunification due to her experience in the blitz shouldn't be a collab leader. She'd fit better as a small member of the resistance.
      Maulding: very odd choice for the "wholesome chungus collab reform path" considering he was a corrupt, incompetent tory that inadvertently started The Troubles (he was Northern Irish secretary and was responsible for Bloody Sunday). It's a gross mischaracterisation to have him of all people as a Liberal.
      Also, Keith Joseph is portrayed as a collborator because he was on the right side of the Conservative party. Problem is he's Jewish. Why would the nazis allow a Jew into their collab government?
      Jellicoe: Shouldn't be a party leader, he was an aristocrat fuckboy OTL who joined the party for the cheese and parties more than actually being a politician. There's no way he'd get his shit together and be able to be an actual prime minister.
      Wilson: Wilson abolishing the monarchy is retarded on some many levels. Not was Wilson himself a monarchist with one of the closest relationships with her majesty Queen Elizabeth II (who is mentioned to be widely respected by even hardcore socialists in TNO) but he was also pragmatic (hell Wilson's entire minigame is about sidelining extermists within his own party). He wouldn't risk the opposition turning more radical by abolishing the monarchy. Even if we do give by TNO's logic of abolishing the monarchy, the fact he can abolish the monarchy yet can't abolish the house of Lords is incredibly stupid as the house of Lords would be far easier to get rid of. Yet it's kept because "it would prove to diffcult to get rid of".
      Plus, a red monarchist Britain is far more intresting than boring Cromwell larp.

      Not really, Germany never had the ability to stage a full blown invasion of Britain, their Navy was too small in comparison to the Royal Navy, the RAF had better planes / advanced technology and the Germans didn't have the ability to transport their troops over into England while under Royal Navy / Army bombardment (they would have had to use little civilian tug boats)
      It would have been a suicide mission putting the German Army on the English Channel with the Royal Navy, even if the RAF did fall - the majority of the German soldiers would have ended up at the bottom of the channel.
      By miracle if they did land, they would have been trapped in England, leaving the continent unguarded.
      This is why Hitler always aimed to make the UK leave the war on its own terms, he never wanted to invade - it was a fantasy.

Also, having been born in 1957 to parents who served in the war, I doubt that Scotland, Wales & N. Ireland would have had the ability to seek individual surrenders, or ceded from the Union so quickly- it just wasn't a thing in 1945. I'm not familiar with TNO, so could someone explain why Leeds was chosen for this announcement and not, say York? York is an ancient walled city which has long connections with Royalty (and therefore a kind of 'Britishness', for those who equate monarchy with patriotism) and all the symbolism that brings with it. Does York not exist in this timeline? (which would be a bit odd, considering it was founded by the Romans, then became the capital of the Viking settlement in the North, was repressed during the Norman conquest and became a key power base during the Medieval era whenever the monarch/royal court had to travel north to fight the Scots or whatever. Yorks political influence only waned after English Civil War (because they chose the losing side) and didn't really recover it (though it retained some religious significance through the post of Archbishop of York and developed new economic influence after the Industrial Revolution thanks to entrepreneurs bringing the railways and the confectionery industry).

    • @kal558
      @kal558 Před rokem +7

      Have to agree with you, Leeds at the time was still an industrial powerhouse in Yorkshire, much like Sheffield to the south. The Germans bombed it regularly in our timeline. In the TNO timeline, it would have undoubtedly been turned to ash. York, whilst a cultural city with a rich history, did not have the mass-industrialisation like Leeds, Sheffield, and Hull had in their respective Ridings during the previous century and therefore was significantly less likely to be seen as a strategic target by the Luftwaffe.

    Quite apart from the fact that the voice is clearly American, definitely not the kind of British accent that was used on BBC broadcasts then, I would have thought that a British surrender would have happened much earlier than 1945 if it was going to happen. If the Americans had not come into the war and the Germans had decided to attack us rather than the USSR, this could have happened in the early 40s.

      the germans didn't have the navy or landing craft capable of launching a seaborne invasion of the british isles. Invasions from the sea are significantly more difficult to accomplish. The Germans were beaten decisively in the Battle of Britain. Any attempts at a full fledged invasion would have been disastrous for the Germans.

    Why do both Montgomery and the BBC guy have marked American accents?

    At some points, Monty sounds surprisingly casual about announcing British surrender, when I imagine someone like him would rather have the bullet rather than utter these words. I saw a comment saying he sounds like he is being held at gunpoint because the AI sounds stiff, and it reminded me of the German surrender in "Der Untergang", in which General Weidling, surrounded by Soviets, faints after is he done speaking.

    I cannot imagine such a broadcast, and thankfully, nor could my forebears.
