Thanks for the explanation, I struggle a lot to try to figure out how to play Byzantines (Currently with a 20% win rate :( ). Hope this can help improve my dismal win rate. 😂By the way, I would love to see how to play against Jeanne d'Arc as Byzantines, to me it's really a hard matchup for the latter (Even players with the highest elo seems to struggle a bit). Is it possible to have a video about it in the future? 😀

Against Ayyubids would the Silk Road mercs potentially be a better choice? Javelin throwers are more protected from Desert Raider/Tower of the Sultan arrows than longbows, the Desert Raiders are faster so they can neutralize the longbow range advantage if they can juke/kill your limitanei, who are going to be moving slow because of shield wall. Javelins do 12 damage vs Desert Raiders vs the Longbowman's 6 and take 4 damage per hit vs the Longbowman's 7. And in age III you'd get your own Camel riders so you could have some cavalry that doesn't get hit with camel unease. The Silk Road mercs' anti-archer archers and anti-cavalry cavalry should both be strong against someone who's likely to spam cavalry archers from both the Archery Range and Stable. Landsknechts are pretty bad against basically everything in the Ayyubid arsenal, you might not build them yourself but the Golden Horn Tower will randomly build them if you have them unlocked.
The thing is that the longbowman in mass are just way more usefull than javelin throwers due to their bonus range and higher attack speed. In Imperial you will also get the attack speed upgrade and then their DPS shoots through the roof.
I think so too javelins better bcs they hey more pierce armor , and high base damage , Camel raiders have 0 pierce armor and low hp , but longow regular strong unit with mass
@@CrackedyCrackCrack longbows fire faster but their damage per shot is much lower, I checked the numbers and JTs have better DPS against anything the Ayyubids have with armor or the ranged tag (which is basically everything they'd want to use against you), even in Imperial when the longbows have Volley. But I don't think it's a winning move to try to mass ranged units all the way into Imperial against the Ayyubids when they get the Tower of the Sultan and the Manjaniq, both of which can outrange and massacre longbows. Ghulams are also very strong against a limitanei/longbow comp.
My thinking is that if you're turtling as Byz vs Ayyubids you need to try to break out of your base and regain map control once your 2TC olive grove eco is putting you ahead at some point in age III, or maybe after getting your first siege units from the Foreign Engineering Company if you think you can make it to age IV. The Silk Road mercs would let you do that, getting access to the Camel Rider with a superior economy would let you take cavalry superiority from his Desert Raiders and you could counter any siege units and start raiding his base with horsemen to force him to go home, that's a comp you could make without spending gold (important because you're stuck in your base with a limited gold supply). With the Western mercs though, you get Landsknechts which don't really help you, and I don't see a way to use the native Byz units to break out from that position either, unless your opponent mismicros his springalds and ragequits like in this game. If you had lost that springald battle in the end, his manjaniqs could have beaten any number of longbowmen you made, and if it became a war of attrition, you'd run out of gold to make springalds before him.
The match vs Ayyubids is weird though because Desert Raiders are such a flexible do-everything unit and Ghulams are unusually good against Landsknechts for a heavy infantry unit, I think the Western mercs are fine in a lot of other matchups.

Good guide. I stopped atm, lose to many games vs Ayubids and JD in ranked. Without seeing light. And it feels 2/3 play this damn civs in diamond atm. ... A guide, how beat them with their hero from hell, or this broken casino wing, would help a lot. But i think both playstiles cant be countered. Or do u pros see any playstiles vs them?
been using this 2tc lb limitanei from the start and 65 win rate
are byzantine possible against english or ottoman? Seems imposible for me
definetly possible, you can go for the silk road contract against english to get some javelin throwers out
theres also a 1 tc age up with 6 on landmark build
What's the goal of that build?
I more early production of army and u have 6 on berries asap so ur oil is coming as fast as possible, get aqueducts up quicker then u can add tc in later after the fuedal agrssion of defence@@CrackedyCrackCrack
@@CrackedyCrackCrackGet Hippodrome and go all in with 3 Horsemen, their +20g Upgrade and pray to kill some villagers. Then contract for either Longbows or Keshiks depending on the enemy civ+reaction, send that first olive oil bunch too and hope the enemy ggs. If not, immediately stop building units, hope he overcommits on defending by building 20+ units in Feudal, squeeze out some eco rounds to go up to Castle and build Cataphracts from 2 stables. If the enemy still doesn't gg, leave and play the next game. It's fast climbing in lower ranks bc you win more often than you lose with this build. Winery is just too slow and 2nd TC has been nerfed to hell (HP+range). Also in lower ranks most people try to rush themselves and if their all in fails they concede. Therefore it's good to have early horsemen out to either counter their own aggression or just be quicker than them and therefore demoralise them plus force the gg. Oddly enough it works more often than it should haha.

you can't
The Mista beat Japanese feudal by matching 2 tc and massing Byz archers.
Key is keshik , ıts very good against maa , but they number is low bcs u need oil , 2 TC go and fight under your tc
