    You have just saved Christmas. Thank you for this video!!!! I bought a 1995 train set for my son for Xmas - the Hornby Northeastern. Had absolutely no idea what to do with the power clips and the train was of course not moving.

    Ah thank you. With my eyes it was really difficult to see the gaps in the track for the clip to slide into. After watching this video I spotted them 🙂

    I'm a newby to railway modelling. Enjoyed your quick vid. If you turn the 2 pin power supply it will change the direction of the forward and reverse. My question is: How do you know which is positive + and which is negative - ? This can affect the outside or inside track at a later date if I wanted to add extra power supply as the track loop gets bigger.

      @DoublehoModelRailways  Před 2 lety +1

      Good question but I dont think it matters as any added loops should be isolated from the original by the connecting points. You wouldn't join 2 power packs to a track and let the power mix. With 2 controllers connected you can run 2 trains on a layout. One on the inside loop and one on the outside loop. But they wouldn't be joined electrically. However if you turn one controller off and park the train in a siding you can then use the other controller to drive the other train from the inner loop to the outer loop by opening the points. Then close the points and run the train from the controller you turned off. Effectively this simulates a real railway where trains are sectioned off and switched from one line to another.

    Thanks for the advise, by chance do you know how do you by connect the controller to the track by wire, and move the speed?

    Very late to this video but i have an old set and train with this exact power supply but the train doesn't start to move until the power is around 75%. At that point the train runs at full speed. I've oiled the loco and I've cleaned the track with ISO alcohol which improved the running but I still have the above issue.
    Does anyone know of a fix? Is my power supply just no good anymore?

      It sounds like the loco is the problem. You are doing the right thing in cleaning the track. Make sure the wheels and wires that pickup power from the wheels are clean. Don't worry too much about oiling. Sometimes that only makes things worse.

      @@DoublehoModelRailways thanks for the reply! I've tried with a few different engines but unfortunately they all have the same issue. They only move when the controller is at 75%

    How do I test which unit is receiving power. I'm not getting power to the track.

    • @DoublehoModelRailways
      @DoublehoModelRailways  Před 3 lety

      Ok. First establish the ends of the wires that come from the power controller have power. If your wires are not joined by the plastic lug at the end you could hold one in each hand and gently touch then together for a second. You should get a slight spark.
      Difficult to explain further here. Feel free to DM on Instagram

    Can I just solder the wires strait from the controller on the track ?

    • @DoublehoModelRailways
      @DoublehoModelRailways  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes that can be done. It will make for a more reliable contact. But some would consider it unsightly. If it was hidden inside a lineside building it would be ok.
