When getting caught I usually say "Great, now you can perform it too!"
That sounds a little condescending

Also Chris: "Instead of telling them how I do it, I show another trick... so I tell them to put a coin in their hand behind their back... if you want to see this, check out this other video - links to other video - and..." Damn. Now I'm the person in his example that doesn't learn the trick AND gets drawn into the next trick/video. WELL PLAYED!
"HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!?!?!"
"Do you remember when you were little, and you believed in santa? and then when you learned he wasn't real it took some of the magic out of Christmas? if I tell you the key, it takes some of the magic out of the magic."
Thats exactly what i tell the persistant friends that just want to know how, but dont want to get into magic. "Imagine if i tell you one little secret..but then all magic tricks will be ruined for you..i made the mistake..now i can do all the tricks..but i have no joy seeing magic anymore (LIE)..do you really want to pay that price?"
Most people then then get it and say "oh..no..its ok...but damn.."

"Is magic real?"
Every time I show my kids a trick, that I have learned from your channel or The Russian Genius's channel or any other channel, their eyes light up the room. Like it's the best thing they've ever seen. So, to me, YES. It is absolutely real. I witness honest to God magic every time they smile in amazement. And I thank you for that.
That's so beautiful. I am learned magic so that I can have that experience with my new born child one day. Also very thankful to them. This channel is amazing
Lovely comment
Really hope this helps a lot of the questions I get! Enjoy #RamFam
Hi Chris! I need advice :/ Are there cards that look as good and feel as good as memento mori but are cheaper? Im a street magician and I want to use a good looking premium deck but im also pretty broke. Cheers!
Yes, please do a video on the coin in hand trick. Would love to figure it out. I've watched the chess video a ton and couldn't get it.
Chris Ramsay teach us the coin behind your back read the other mind three in a row thing
I love these "dealing with.." videos, they're really helpful, man. #ramfam
Chris Ramsay That's a hot one
I saw David Blaine get asked to repeat a trick and he just said ok and did something else and the reactions were even better. That's what I do if someone tells me to do a trick again. They've never said anything, they just roll with it.
Toby Pitton same.

I've been watching your videos every now and again for some time, and I somehow went down the CZcams rabbit hole that brought me to three years ago, but I just have to say - as a high school mathematics teacher, SO MUCH of what you're saying is what a lot of pedagogues need to hear. Yeah, sure it looks like we speak the mysteries of the world to legions of unassuming minds, much like magicians do in performance, but this notion of EMPOWERING and GIVING SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN THEN OWN is so strong, and so necessary. Love your stuff. Thanks for the entertainment and the insight.
You're astonishing - professional - & yet at the same time, your genuinely humble personality is GOLDEN !! You spoke volumes...

Yes Master, I wanna learn the coin-guess trick 🙏🙏🙏
Only recently got into Cardistry and sleight of hand, looking over youtube tutorials when i found your channel....LOVE IT. Spent a lot of time watching all your videos while practicing your tutorials. getting personal with viewers like we r in the room with you is above and beyond! keep it up man ur a true inspiration!!
P.S. just bought ur Knights deck from Amazon, cant wait to try em out!
Thank you! Out of all your magic videos, This is extremely awesome for not only figuring out how to say things better with those people but also cognitively assessing the situations whether at the bar with the girls or the analytical guy at my job! Mostly I try to just do them for kids since that is where also I found in common with my father why I love learning them you!
Person: how did you do that?
Me: magic.

Love the positivity! Mate, you certainly have the concept on how to respect people in life. Keep doing you and connecting to people.
I love the depth of thought you've put into relating to, and creating relationship with, your audience. You have a great way of raising HECK. (Humility. Empathy. Compassion. Kindness.)
yes the coin trick please
Jessica Barnhart that would be great.
I would like to see the tutorial for that coin magic
Dude, Just found your channel and I'm so glad I did. Your skills and your philosophy are top notch. Thank you for all you're sharing!
you're just too awesome Chris. And I actually do those things you said especially when I mess up. I just tell them, I'm still practicing, don't have it quite down yet. I gotta say you are an admirable individual. I'm just starting doing card tricks now but I remember when I learned my first one and showed people, what really attracted me to learning more was the reaction they had and how I was able to brighten up their day, and that in turn made me feel better. And I felt a connection to magic that way because it gave me that same good feeling of being able to make someone feel some positivity, like when I take care of my patients as a nurse (btw I'm a nurse). So much respect to you. Love what you do and why you do it. I hope to learn more from watching your videos. And God willing we can meet some day and I can show you if I've reached that "advanced" level.
Good stuff. Someone once said reality is a shared experience shattered by individual perspectives. I like your explanations, you seem to genuinely want to see the moment through their lens and help them enjoy the moment more. Very cool.
"How did you get so good?"
"I sold my soul to the devil"
oh brother where art thou
I've literally only just started being interested in magic and learning it but what I've taken most from your videos isn't the fact that magic makes people happy but your positivity towards making people happy with the way you speak and act towards them!! .qTruly inspiring!!!
hey man, I LOVE your down to earth approach on how to deal with different situations, and that you actually are helping educating others. you are nothing short of awesome.
yes please, teach us that coin in hand thing
Them: How did you do that?
Me: Can you keep a secret?
Them: YES!!
Me: So can I... #hehe
I use that one almost EVERY time. :)
Nice one! Michael Ammar told this in a dvd and I've been using it ever since.
Another great vid! These questions can be very frustrating but I really like your approach. Truly humble and respectful. Thanks for sharing
I am very new to magic, and have learned a lot from your videos. THANK YOU! But I think this one has been the most helpful yet, perhaps because I’m at the right “stage” for this lesson. I’m still very new, but know enough and have done enough tricks, that I completely see how you need to be prepared for these kinds of questions. Thank you so much for for all you share!
Damn, I don't know why but during your intro, when you say 'Welcome baaaahck' it sounds so laidback.
Which makes me repeat it over and over.
Maybe I'm just weird, but for some reason it makes me see you more like a friend, than a youtuber.
Thanks Chris
this is the only channel which deals with all the problems...
love you Chris😘😘😘
I'm still pretty new to magic and always get flustered when people ask these questions. Your advice really helped! Thanks!
This is a really special video. The philosophy of giving back to the spectator and allowing yourself to be vulnerable is very counter-cultural in the magic world. I believe it is so important in the progression of the art as an amazing interaction between people as opposed to an elevated, top-down display of power. I think that this is a brilliant model for how we should behave towards each other in ordinary life, even aside from the magic sphere. Keep doing what you're doing - these advice videos are invaluable. Thank you!
I would love to know how to do the guessing in which hand is the coin Chris!
TEACH THE COIN TRICK!!!! =D
Which trick?
YYAAAAASSSSS
Not the Which trick. We've seen that far too many times. Just the coin trick. Fans of Derren Brown will enjoy that one big time.
I am so glad I found your channel. You are a great person. I love the tutorials and the theory chat, and mostly, videos like this. You're just teaching basic human decency but you are doing it so well.
I love your attitude and approach. Never stop being generous to others who call you out. More of this in every walk of life.
My favorite video by Chris Ramsay. I love when a person has the ability to be human.
Please teach us the coin trick! I've seen variations such as the bloodflow method, but I'd love to see yours!
Brilliant tips Chris, thanks so much for sharing. I will definitely use some of these. I love that they make you seem more human and not just going straight on the defensive. Cheers.
This was a great lesson Chris, especially for someone like me who's attempting to become a performer and I've watched the Tony Chang lecture twice to understand the theory behind performing. Keep it UP.
"Is magic real"
my answer - It depends on how you define magic. What I'm doing may not be considered magic, but there may still be magic out there.
I like to say
"The feeling of magic's real. And that's the real magic, the rest is just me."
Yes teach us how to do the coin thing !
This is good stuff. I like how you talked about being human and not trying to be above someone else. If you know magic they know other things you don''t...so respect those you preform for. I like what Teller of Penn and Teller said, "Sometimes, magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect." This is enough for some people because you're letting them know it took more time to practice then they would probably want to take and they are OK with that. They'd rather pursue the thing they are interested in, and you can be happy that at least for a moment they were interested in what you do.
Good stuff man, this isn't a topic that I see very much, but it's definitely one that is extremely valuable to have planned in the chance you do get caught in these situations. How you handle something like this can definitely make or break a routine.
+Chris Ramsay how is the gaming channel and the mini-series of 'breaking down magic'?????
That really helped me a lot for my magic. Thanks chris
Magic is about giving! Chris has such A strong and infectious positive personality. Thx man...what A lesson that was
This is the best video you've done, in my opinion. Great psychology, empathy,
really deeply analytical. Impressive! I've been wondering if you ever get to read
responses to your older videos. Would love to have an answer to that. TOB
Teach me the coin trick
whenever someone says "how do you do that?" I always reply with "I went to Hogwarts"
This video literally opened my eyes as a performer. Im really thankful Chris, keep up the work. You're amazing
Dude I used to practice magic tricks like 10 years ago acknowledged in high school. After that I guess life got in the way, I stumbled across your channel a couple days ago and it has rekindled my passion for being a magician.
I subscribed and went out and got me a basic bicycle deck to start going off what I used to know. Now adding all of your tutorials to my arsenal is fucking awesome. Also I never really heard of, more like didn't get into, cardistry or "flourishing" (if I'm using that correctly) and am way more interested in learning cardistry than new tricks.
Already just learning some of your cardistry tutorials has added new twists to some old tricks. Keep doing what your doing bro, can't wait for the next video (even though I still have a bazillion more videos of yours to go through haha)
When they say "is magic real?" I say simply "yep" and continue with my routine.
YES YES! Do a video on that coin trick
You are really good with people, if everyone handled communication in general with so much care, half of the conflicts occuring around the world wouldn't even exist.
Great talk, and sincerely, the general idea you laid down works for most things of life. I wish more people tought this way!
Him: eplain why you learned magic
Me: I learned it one day when my uncle did magic to me, so i wanted to learn. Then i realized that this will give me something to show to people since im not good at carrying a conversation
Him: Say whether it was to not be shy or to get along with your uncle
GET OUT OF MY HEAD RAMSAY!!!!!!!
Yesssss please show us how to find the white chess piece every time !!!!!!
cd 914 You can purchase that trick on Ellusionist.com. It’s called Chess Guess.
I think I agree with you, by giving them something instead of taking something from them, you are creating a much better image of yourself and you will be remembered more for that. You have much wisdom Chris. I enjoy your videos immensely. 😃👍
I love your philosophy and psychology. That's the main reason I subscribed to your channel. I use a similar type approach in the classroom when I get stumped. Thanks, Chris.
Best Video, best Tipps, best Style, best Beard ;)
Can you keep a secret? Yeah. So can I
Or How did you do that? You know how? Magic
12:35 Life Lesson that applies to not just magic - but to all aspects of life and conflict resolution. I love your videos, not just for the magic, lessons, street magic, puzzle solving, etc -- but your personality is so awesome!
thanks Chris for making these videos. i have been in all of those situations. Your tips will really help me out. all of your videos have really inspired me not just as a magician but as an individual. thanks a lot
"Is magic real?" "The magic is happening right now. This moment, this exchange between us is the magical part"
Teach the coin trick
Great video Chris. I've been following you on instagram for a while and Im a new subscriber to your youtube channel. You put out such great work and content! I'm learning a lot from your videos old and new. Keep it up!
Dude just discovered your channel. I studied magic somewhat seriously for a few years right out of high school and never went further than a free gig at a college. I really enjoy your channel though and this video is spot on.
I do tricks still from time to time (though I'm completely rusty and don't even try a push off double anymore) and sure, I get caught every once and a while. It's just part of it, and I think any magician who is working to improve and get better needs to learn to deal with it in a professional way like you describe. I've seen too many people get caught in tricks before and just fall apart.
Thanks for the tips man! I'm from Brazil and i love your vids :D PHENOLPHTHALINNNE!!!
"Is magic real?" I like to say: There's a reason children can see ghosts but adults cannot...and it's not the fault of the ghost.
Good video Chris,
Thanks for all the tips and advice, very helpful !
Love your videos, editing and music especially your intro and outro music

Thanks for this Chris! Specially the last scenario with the flash 😅
Though all your vids are long, i always stay with them till the end, thanks dude!
Great video, but I was distracted by your left ear poking out of your hoodie.

J'ai binge watch la plupart de tes vidéos, et celle-là est pretty much ma favorite jusqu'ici; la psychologie derrière le magicien, vraiment très intéressant Chris, merci pour ton channel, j'adore vraiment; keep up the good work!
Chris, the more of your videos i watch, the more i rekindle the love of magic i had as a child. I think you are a phenomenal instructor and editor. I truly wish you the best in your trade. Please keep the content coming, and most importantly, thank you.

Teach the behind the back coin thing!!!
Yo Chris !
I love to listen to your videos and how you deal with these situations! Keep it up!
Before i only saw you as the cool guy to learn cardistry from in youtube, but during my "magical journey" you've been a big inspiration to my performing and brand/image awareness. Thank you . I'd love to meet when you come in toronto. Peace :)
Talking about why I started doing magic... "I was on acid and the deception of the human mind is fascinating to me"
please teach the coin trick!!
Looking forward to the hand pick method on a future Monday! Have wanted to know this ever since your chess hustler video uploaded!
Chris again, excelent video... i´ve been practicing magic for nearly 3 years now.. but not doing much with people.. some times at the university,... but is so hard for me, so afraid of being caught... this video is really great and gave me many ideas! thanks a lot!!
"Is magic real?" I usually answer that with "well, you just saw it happen right in front of you"
you should do tricks with rings for your next monday turtorial video, pls :)
Dude... Why are you so freakin inspiring. You literally got me into card tricks. Mad respect.
Oh my Jeebus, thanks for this video! I've been dying to learn these things!
I have been studying magic on and off for almost 3 years so I get caught a lot. Also, since I've only started performing more often I noticed some questions get asked a lot by the spectators. This video saved me!
Also, I'd LOVE a tutorial for the coin mentalism routine! I've seen Derren Brown doing it and I was mind blown. I suppose his method is a surefire thing but seeing how strong that routine is, I believe a simpler, non-surefire version would still kill.
Spectator : Is magic real?
Me: Well, magic has always been just an illusion
I WANNA KNOW HOW TO DO THE "MENTALIST" COIN IN HAND TRCIKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plzzz
I was expecting really good info out of this vid; but it was helpful and wholesome to a whole other extent. Inspirational!
Wow Chris, this video was actually very helpful! I would love to know how you do that coin behind the back trick, but this video learned me more than any tutorial! Keep up the great work
Would love to learn to the coin thing
The best answer is I learned magic on a super expensive course, so they don’t try and learn the tricks😂
chris.. every time i feel like stopping magic.. your videos always bring me the joy of being a magician and creating wonders to them.. it makes me to not giving up magic.. i truly am thankful..
Chris such a helpful topic! I'm starting my carer as a working magician so this is great to add to my collective answers of dreaded questions. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the tutorial on the quarter behind the back and guessing which hand is in! I've seen you do this with chess players. always been fascinated.
