- El Cantante is a 2006 biographical film which stars singers Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. The film is based on the life of the late salsa singer Héctor Lavoe, who is portrayed by Anthony. The film is told from the viewpoint of Puchi, Hector's wife, portrayed by Lopez. Initially debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2006, El Cantante was released on August 3, 2007.

Hector was the toxic one in the whole relationship drugs is the muthafucka they can make or break you in this instance it broke hector she tried saving him but he didn’t want to be saved
I felt that when she said you can never leave me, I felt that, "If" he had left her he would have lost everything......That girl picked him up when he was down in Crackhouses, took him to rehabs and hospitals, made sure he got to his rehearsals, and his shows; and helped managed his money. Without her, he would have lost everything in his legacy....That man turned himself into a drug addict and she kept him up throughout their whole marriage.....without her helping him to stages or shows he would have went bankrupt or became washed up
That look she gives him at the end speaks volumes, just so raw

President of the Oscars called her personally to tell her she should have been nominated for "El Cantante", that it was overlooked. Ironically, they did the same with "Hustlers". But I'm not surprised anymore. The lack of recognition for Latinos has been a problem.

@@fatijlover Well, that was a TV show. She got good reviews for her performance, but the critics didn't like the plot/script.
This is some of her best acting. Honesty, emotional conviction, solid line deliveries...she really should get away from the fluff movies & take on more serious acting work. It suits her better.

@@Kitty_bandida22 “Hustlers” was aight. “Mi Familia” was 30 years ago. “Selena” was 26 years ago. She needs to get away from movies like “Marry Me” and that movie she did with Leah Remini where she worked in a grocery store because those aren’t believable at all. This performance in this video is her lane and I’d argue it’s her acting “sweet spot”.
