Philippines’ Weaponry is Increasingly Getting Lethal

  • The Philippines is significantly enhancing its defense capabilities through the $35 billion Revised Horizon 3 program, aimed at upgrading military assets amidst escalating regional tensions in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait. This modernization includes acquiring advanced frigates, corvettes, missile systems, and surveillance technologies from international partners like the United States and Israel. Key enhancements include the installation of US mid-range missile systems, the acquisition of BrahMos cruise missiles, and advanced air defense systems like the SPYDER. The strategic placement of these assets, particularly in Northern Luzon and the West Philippine Sea, underscores the Philippines' commitment to defending its sovereignty and contributing to regional stability. Additionally, the Philippines is bolstering its defense industry and infrastructure, emphasizing cooperation with allies, and integrating advanced technologies, such as Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS), to ensure operational readiness. Despite economic challenges, these efforts reflect a robust strategy to address security threats, maintain peace, and uphold international norms in the Indo-Pacific region. Questions you need to think of if ever a war breaks out 1. How long will these weapons last? 2. Where do you get the budget for it? Ok for the sake of it let's just say that we have the budget for it (clearly we do not), do you think other countries will just sell and sell? Of course not. I'll give you an example Ukraine has received 200+ Billion worth of donations but they're still having a hard time getting new equipments for the ongoing war. Why? The manufacturing simply can't keep up, resources are limited and that's the reality of it. Another thing you should think about. learning new equipments takes time.

It is necessary for the Philippines to enhance its defense capability.
China should stop its creeping expansion and building artificial islands military bases in west Philippine sea. China's nine-dash line claim was invalidated by the Permanent Court of arbitration at the Hague. China is among the first countries who signed the UNCLOS in 1982 and ratified it in 1994. China is obligated to abide by UNCLOS and the arbitral court's' ruling, but China rejects and disregards international maritime law.
